Paris spooked by mystery drone flights

Paris' Invalides museum at dusk

Paris has an unusual (and rather nerve-wracking) flying robot problem on its hands. Residents have spotted drones illegally flying over city landmarks over the past two evenings, including hotspots like the Eiffel Tower, the Invalides military museum and the US embassy. Some of the machines have been caught on camera, but there aren’t really any clues as to who’s responsible. The pilots could be innocuous enthusiasts trying to get some sweet overhead video footage… or they could be organizations (whether activists or terrorists) scouting locations ahead of an operation. And as much as security forces might like to shoot the drones down or jam their signals, there’s a concern that they’ll crash into highly populated areas. As such, it might be a good while before you find out who’s freaking out Parisians with unmanned flights.

Nexon, Socialspiel partner for upcoming ‘Legacy Quest’ game

legacy_quest_characters

Game publisher Nexon and developer Socialspiel are coming together to release an exciting action role-playing (RPG) game called Legacy Quest.

Hit the break for more, including the trailer and full press release.

The game offers customization and crafting in a visually stunning environment that is inspired by classic 8-bit titles from the past. Players design their style prior to entering massive dungeons for battle. These dungeons contain monsters for slaying and loot for collecting. More success on the player’s end means more unlocked traits and items.

Mike Borras, the CEO of Socialspiel, had this to say about the experience provided to players by Legacy Quest:

“Every time a player takes their hero into a dungeon in Legacy Quest they’re creating their own personal journey that will quite literally echo throughout every other player’s game experience in the form of loot. But it’s not entirely about collecting loot, we’re going to ensure that players are met with an awesome feeling of accomplishment in Legacy Quest as they battle their way through hordes of monsters while sharing that adventure with friends.”

The social aspect is very important for Legacy Quest. Players can trade weapons and armor, join groups, and face enemies together. Then, everyone can compare places on the leaderboards to stay competitive.

An exclusive beta will be held prior to the official launch, so head over to the game’s site to get started.

NEXON M and Socialspiel Entertainment Reveal Legacy Quest

A Roguelike Dungeon Crawling Action RPG Coming Soon for Mobile Devices

February 25, 2015 – Los Angeles, Ca. – Nexon Co., Ltd. (“Nexon”), a worldwide leader in free-to-play mobile games, and Socialspiel Entertainment GmbH (“Socialspiel”), a Vienna, Austria-based mobile games studio, are developing Legacy Quest, an upbeat, roguelike-inspired action role playing game (RPG) for mobile devices. Legacy Quest will be available worldwide later this year as a free download for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Android devices.

Legacy Quest puts players in the fearless boots of a proud line of customizable heroes, where they will explore massive dungeons while fighting monsters and uncovering rare loot. Death of a hero is permanent in Legacy Quest, but every creature vanquished and Soul collected will give players the ability to unlock powerful new traits, enhancing the next hero in their bloodline to continue their epic adventure and take on increasingly challenging monsters and dungeons. Players will adventure through ever-evolving dungeons set in a unique and highly stylized fantasy universe, inspired by the classic 8-bit RPGs of previous generations.

“Socialspiel is taking a fresh approach to the fantasy RPG genre with Legacy Quest’s unique customization and crafting, and a vibrant, gorgeous art style,” said John Robinson, General Manager of NEXON M, Nexon’s mobile game publishing division.

Players will create, customize and upgrade their weapons to fit their play style through Legacy Quest’s unique crafting and customization system. If a hero is slain in a dungeon, their custom gear will be added as new items to the game world and become discoverable by other players as they hack and slash their way through waves of monsters. Legacy Quest’s social features will allow players to trade weapons and armor with their friends, join Guilds to work together to overcome challenges and compete in the player versus environment (PvE) dungeon challenges to earn a spot on the leaderboards.

“Every time a player takes their hero into a dungeon in Legacy Quest they’re creating their own personal journey that will quite literally echo throughout every other player’s game experience in the form of epic loot,” said Mike Borras, CEO of Socialspiel. “But it’s not entirely about collecting loot, we’re going to ensure that players are met with an awesome feeling of accomplishment in Legacy Quest as they battle their way through hordes of monsters while sharing that adventure with friends.”

Want some BlackBerry goodies? Enter now to win hats, shirts, mugs and more!

We were due for a contest so, I decided to have a little bit of fun. As some folks might have seen on the CrackBerry BBM Channel (C00012B19), I’ve been hanging on to some BlackBerry goodies. Some hats, pens, stickers, spark logos, mugs, carabiners and a few other things. Obviously, I can’t wear 10 of all the same hats and there’s only so many key chains one can have a use for and since people haven’t stopped emailing me about the stuff since I posted it, I figured now was a good time to go ahead and give some of it away so the emails will hopefully stop and well, because I like you all.

Instant: Track your smartphone habits

From the talented folks at Emberify, Instant is an app that tracks your smartphone usage to help the user become more aware of their habits and promote a more balanced lifestyle. Similar to fitness trackers, Instant tracks phone habits to make users more aware of their smartphone usage.

We can all admit that smartphones are an amazing piece of technology, and have also become an important and centralized part of our lives. Instant wants the user to become more aware of just how much they use their smartphone, as well as what they use their smartphone for. Instant can track how many times you unlock your phone, which apps you use and how often, and even tracks how much you move and exercise with integrated Google Fit. For the data and information lovers, Instant will give you a graph for a “Quantified Self”.

Instant

Learning to use the app is about as easy as installing it. The layout is simple, navigation is easy and fresh thanks to the Material Design makeover, and there are very few extra buttons to confuse the user. The app worked for me exactly how the description promised; show me just how physically inactive I am compared to digitally. I’ve been the using app for three days now, and as I review my chart of gathered data, I feel like I’m looking at the clipboard at my doctor’s office.

Congratulations, Jack, you exercised more on Reddit and Chrome than in real life.

Thanks, Doc.

Integration with Google Fit was flawless and worked very well with the app itself. So well, in fact, that this app as a whole almost seems like it was developed by Google itself.

Overall, this app is a must try for those curious about their phone usage, as I was. Will I keep it on my phone as a regular app? Maybe for the next week or so, but a small fraction of my total battery life was used by this app, as it does constantly track your phone’s usage.

I urge you all to give this app a try. Check the Play link below for a download!
