androidify_nba_update_portland_trail_blazers

There is a lot that can designed with the Androidify app. Pretty much anything imaginable can be transformed into an Android character. The latest update furthers that statement by bringing NBA gear and additional itmes to the app that already has plenty of content.

Ready to hit the court?

Users can equip their Android characters with jerseys and gear from any of the league’s thirty-two teams. Then, they can put on matching sneakers, wristbands, and headbands to complete the look. Google included new hairdos and accessories — such as hats and outfits — to give more choice.

So, for example, I was able to build the Philadelphia 76ers’ Allen Iverson as an Android character. His name? Allen Androiverson.

google_play_music_version_5-8-1809_update_slideout_menu

On Wednesday’s, Google enjoys pushing updates to its applications. The introduction of Android 5.0 Lollipop has brought a new slideout menu that Google has started to apply. Today, the Play Music app is receiving an update that includes the new slideout menu (as seen above). The slideout menu also has a Downloaded only toggle, but that is nothing new. The new part is the toggle itself which has changed from a circle to a square. Other changes in the update are either so minute that they go unnoticed or can be found behind the scenes.

Possible Galaxy S 6 shows up on celebrity Instagram page

caroline stanbury galaxy s 6In what may or may not be an intentional leak, it looks like the Galaxy S 6 is being used by reality star Caroline Stanbury from Bravo’s show, Ladies of London. It makes for an odd partnership if Samsung did indeed give her a pre-release device to use leading up to the official unveiling, but it wouldn’t be the first off the wall partnership Samsung has made.

In several of Caroline Stanbury’s latest Instagram photos, she’s clearly using a Samsung device that doesn’t quite look like anything else on the market. There are some similarities to the Alpha line, but the sizes don’t completely match up there. This might just be our first glimpse of the S 6 in the wild.

Whether or not she’s using Samsung’s latest and greatest is up for debate, but we’ll only have to wait until March 1st before Samsung makes it official, anyway.

Apple reportedly in talks with content partners for new web-based TV service

According to a new report, Apple may yet again be looking to step into the TV business. The tech giant is reportedly in talks with content owners that would could result in Apple providing bundles of programming to customers over the web.

The report comes via Re/code, which states:

The theory is that Apple would put together bundles of programming — but not the entire TV lineup that pay TV providers generally offer — and sell it directly to consumers, over the Web. That means Apple wouldn’t be reinventing the way TV works today, but offering its own version of it, with its own interface and user experience.

Re/code also notes that its sources indicate that Apple has already shown off demos of the service to programmers in some capacity.

There have been rumors that Apple would try to break into the TV business for several years now, with new reports popping up every so often to stoke the fire. However, as Re/code notes, new services, such as Dish’s recently launched Sling TV, have opened up a new path toward content deals with programmers that could actually make something like this happen. Further, Apple already has somewhat of a gateway into potential user’s living rooms via its Apple TV box.

Google Play Music update brings full-height navigation drawer, artist bio page, and more

Google Play Music update

Google Play Music is receiving quite the update today, bringing the version number up to 5.8.1809. This update mainly consists of UI enhancements, though there are a few handy features added to the app as well. Let’s dive right in to the update.

The first big tweak we see is the addition of the full-height navigation drawer. In the version prior to this one, the navigation drawer would slide out under the action bar up top. Now the drawer reaches the top of the screen, much like we’ve seen in a few other Google apps. The next handy feature in the update is the addition of a back arrow on the lock screen music control notification. The back arrow only used to be available in the expanded notification view. We’re sure many users will appreciate this useful addition. The last big change we see is the inclusion of an artist biography when viewing an artist’s page. Clicking on the “Read More” tab will bring up a full artist bio and the source from which it’s pulling the information.

That’s all we’ve noticed so far in the update. If you find anything we missed, feel free to let us know in the comments. The update is rolling out to Google Play as we speak, but if we’ve learned anything from Google’s updates, we know it might take awhile to get to everyone. So, feel free to follow the link below if you’d like to download the apk file. If you don’t mind waiting, head to the Google Play Store to check for your update.

‘Tweetbot 2’ Yosemite Update in the Works, Will Be Available for Free [Mac Blog]

Tapbots, the company behind the popular Tweetbot Twitter client, today tweeted a tantalizing preview image of Tweetbot 2 for Mac, which has received a Yosemite-style redesign.

Based on the photo, Tweetbot 2 adopts many stylistic elements from Yosemite, allowing it to blend in well with the updated operating system. It features a flatter look with redesigned icons, plus a translucent navigation bar. It also uses circular profile photos, much like Tweetbot for iPhone.

According to Tapbots, the Yosemite update has been “more work than anticipated,” which explains why the Mac app has yet to see an update even though Yosemite launched in October. The company has also confirmed that Tweetbot 2 for Mac will be a free update.

tweetbot_mac
Tweetbot for Mac made headlines last week when it temporarily disappeared from the App Store, leading some to speculate that it had reached its Twitter token limit, a restriction Twitter places on the number of users allowed for third-party Mac clients, but the disappearance was only temporary and Tweetbot returned to the Mac App Store after a day of absence.

Though Tapbots has confirmed that Tweetbot 2 for Mac is in the works, the company has not divulged a possible release date for the software. There is also no new word on a new iPad app, which has not been updated since June of 2014 and has not received an iOS 7 redesign.

Tweetbot for Mac can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. [Direct Link]
