Sprint announces new $60 wireless plan offered exclusively through Best Buy

Sprint announced today that it has partnered with Best Buy to offer an exclusive unlimited plan, fittingly called the “Best Buy One Plan,” through the retailer starting at $60 per month with a leased 16GB iPhone 6.

The Best Buy One Plan allows customers to lease a 16GB iPhone 6 starting for $60 per month with unlimited talk, text and data. While Sprint specifically names the 16GB flavor of the iPhone 6 in the press release, it notes that other devices are available for lease at different price points. The cost is for a two-year contract, but customers also have the option to choose a 12-month lease option for an extra $10 per month. Additionally, anyone who starts a new line of service before March 28 will snag a $200 Best Buy gift card to sweeten the deal. Finally, Sprint says that certain, well-qualified customers will be able to take advantage of the deal with no money down and no sales tax at the time of purchase.

This Best Buy exclusive plan follows up on recent offers by Sprint to cut AT&T and Verizon customers’ bills in half, as well as a $200 guarantee on smartphone trade-ins for customers switch from T-Mobile.

Google rethinks Mountain View campus with new proposal

LANDINGS_EX_SQUINT

Certain locations are synonymous with companies headquartered there — Redmond (Microsoft), Cupertino (Apple), Mountain View (Google). While Microsoft is sitting comfortably in its current campus, Apple is expanding with a multi-billion dollar campus resembling a giant ring. That project is set to complete sometime next year. Google, too, wants to expand and has revealed what it will propose to Mountain View’s City Council.

The North Bayshore section is targeted by Google for the construction of lightweight block-like structures to allow constant rearranging. The company notes that different teams, such as self-driving and Search, have different needs. Massive canopies are featured in the proposal and Google shows trees, cafes, bike paths, and landscaping spread throughout the area.

Hit the break for images and a video tour of the proposal.

Need 128GB of flash storage in a mobile device? Samsung is making it happen

samsung_128gb_flash_storage_announcement

Dedicated storage in a mobile device is becoming extremely slim as files are getting bigger and bigger. The sizes of applications, games, photographs, and videos today would never fit on a device released two or more years ago. That explains why consumers clamor for flagship devices to have microSD card slots. Fortunately, Samsung has announced the mass production of its 128GB memory that uses Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 2.0 technology.

Here is a quote from Samsung’s Jee-ho Baek, Senior Vice President of Memory Marketing:

“With our mass production of ultra-fast UFS memory of the industry’s highest capacity, we are making a significant contribution to enable a more advanced mobile experience for consumers. In the future, we will increase the proportion of high-capacity memory solutions, in leading the continued growth of the premium memory market.”

Samsung claims that its UFS memory can outperform the speed of reading found in current high-end smartphones by 2.7 times.

Worried about the price of this, especially when the amount of storage is 128GB? Don’t worry, Samsung also has 32GB and 64GB variants.

There is a possibility that we see this form of storage debut on Sunday when the Galaxy S 6 is announced for the world to see at MWC 2015.

Mad Catz announces the S.U.R.F.R. and L.Y.N.X. 3 game controllers ahead of MWC 2015

surfr

Mad Catz, the creators of the M.O.J.O. micro-console, have just announced two new gaming controllers ahead of Mobile World Congress 2015. First up on the list is the S.U.R.F.R., and it’s a bit toned-down from other controllers we’ve seen from the company in the past. Slated as the “ultimate multimedia surfer and gaming controller”, the S.U.R.F.R. aims to make your life easier thanks to its full QWERTY keyboard and mouse pointer input.

It’ll connect to any Android device, including smartphones, Android TV devices, PCs and a handful of others. The controller features dual analog sticks, shoulder buttons, action buttons and a d-pad. If you’re playing a game that’s particularly difficult, the controller even has extendable grips on either side to help you hold on.

Like I said earlier, the S.U.R.F.R. features a more toned-down design than we’re used to seeing from the company. The S.U.R.F.R. seems comfortable and functional, and that’s all we could as for in a controller. It will be available in White, Red and Black for $79.99. There’s no exact date for the controller’s release, but the company estimates it will launch sometime around May.

Lynx 3

Next up on the list is the L.Y.N.X. 3 gaming controller, the “L.Y.N.X.9’s lil’ bro.” Remember the crazy, futuristic-looking controller announced by the company back at CES 2015? That was the L.Y.N.X. 9, and the L.Y.N.X. 3 aims to be the more affordable version of that. Just like the other gaming controllers, this one can connect to a slew of different Android-powered devices. It has a fold-out design, two joy sticks, a d-pad, ABXY buttons and two shoulder buttons. But unlike the L.Y.N.X. 9, this new model gets rid of the keyboard and tablet dock in the middle, allowing for a more compact, lighter experience. It will be available for $69.99 and will launch in May.

Both of these gaming controllers will be shown off at MWC 2015. Are you interested in either the S.U.R.F.R. or the L.Y.N.X. 3?

Samsung_Galaxy_Note_3_TA_Back_Camera_AT&T_Logo

Getting your mobile device insured is something that should be done. However, the cost of doing so is not cheap and it just adds another expense to what is already a loaded monthly bill. We have good news for AT&T customers that are currently using uninsured devices. The carrier announced open enrollment for customers outside of the usual thirty-day window. Starting today, AT&T customers can choose between three programs to ensure one or multiple devices. Open enrollment will end on March 31; therefore, give it some thought and decide. Really, insuring your phone can be the difference between paying hundreds or a few bucks.

Hit the break for a look at the three programs offered.

Woolet aims to be the wallet you’ll never lose

Woolet

Wouldn’t it be nice if you never lost your wallet ever again? There might just be a way to make that happen. The Woolet is a smart wallet that attaches to your mobile device via Bluetooth, and will send you a notification if you move too far away from it. You can manage your wallet connection by downloading the free Woolet app. Your phone will ring the moment you lose Bluetooth connection, and you can even specify any distance between 20-85 feet to get automatic alerts.

At just 9.9mm thin, the self-charging wallet looks like any wallet you can find anywhere else. That’s right, the Woolet charges itself using a low-powered ARM Cortex-M0 processor, and the company is actually working on batteries that will charge from your body heat and movement. The Woolet has four credit card slots, one large slot for an ID card and even a hidden pocket. Take a look at the promotional video below for more information.

The Woolet is currently in the midst of a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. At the time of writing this, Woolet has surpassed its $15 thousand goal by $10 thousand, with 33 days to go. If you’d like to back the project you can pledge $99 to get a black Woolet. If you’d like to support the campaign but don’t want to pay $99, you can snag an RFID blocking sleeve, a Woolet Phone Cover or a Woolet Key Finder by pledging less. $99 may seem like a lot for a wallet, but it seems pretty high quality and offers up something most other wallets can’t provide. If you’re interested, head to the link below to back Woolet.

Video-trimming feature and inline video previews heading to YouTube

YouTube_App_Large_Icon

Android YouTube users will be happy to know that Google has announced two new features for creators. Apparently, a new video-trimming feature (see the gif below) and an inline video preview for the app are being introduced giving creators control over some key aspects of their videos.

YouTubeTrimGif

As can be seen from the above image, content creators can now select the exact frame where the video starts and ends. There’s also the inline video preview before you upload it. So for those of you who create videos on the go, be happy to know that you’ll now be able to have more control over your mobile creations.
