Apple Watch Edition graces the pages of Vogue Paris

Apple is continuing their advertising push for the Apple Watch, this time with a two-page spread in the Vogue Paris. The March issue of the magazine features models wearing the watch the Edition version of the Watch.

From AppleInsider:

Boding readers “welcome to the future,” the spread discusses the Watch’s importance at post-Steve Jobs Apple and its overt positioning as a fashion accessory. The story — first noticed by French blog PomPomComedy — is bookended by photos of fashion models donning the gold Apple Watch Edition.

The images of the spread first appeared on PomPomComedy.

A multipage advertisement for the Apple Watch debuted in the March issue of the U.S. edition of Vogue earlier this week. The Watch has previously graced the covers of Vogue China and Self Magazine.

Apple is expected to reveal the Apple Watch in full at that “Spring Forward” event, taking place March 9, 2015.

Tim Cook says he can’t imagine living without his Apple Watch

Apple CEO Tim Cook isn’t waiting until the company’s big press event on March 9 to talk about the Apple Watch. In a new interview, he says he can’t imagine living without the smartwatch, which is scheduled to go on sale sometime in April.

The UK-based newspaper The Telegraph chatted with Cook while he made a surprise visit to the Covent Garden Apple Store in London today. It stated:

Cook, needless to say, is already wearing his new Apple Watch. He couldn’t even contemplate living without it anymore, he says. “I’m now so used to getting all my notifications and all my messages,” he says. “It’s so incredible just to do this.”

Cook and his team showed the newspaper two versions of what would appear to be the lower priced Sport edition of the Apple Watch; one with a black wristband and Cook’s personal one with a white band. It stated:

The watch has also been designed and engineered to be a great time-keeper: it will be correct to 50 milliseconds, he promises. But when consumers witness the Apple Watch’s full potential for themselves, Cook says, they will understand just how different it is from a traditional watch.

“This will be just like the iPhone: people wanted it and bought for a particular reason, perhaps for browsing, but then found out that they loved it for all sorts of other reasons.”

Cook says that we should expect a large amount of apps for the Apple Watch, many of which will be health-oriented. It will also support Apple Pay and Cook imagines that it could take the place of car keys at some point.

iMore will be attending Apple’s March 9 press event, where we expect nearly everything about the Apple Watch to be revealed.

Vesper now lets you collect your thoughts in landscape — and on iPad!

Now you can Vesper not only in landscape on your iPhone but on the big screen of your iPad

Vesper — the thought-collection app by Brent Simmons, Dave Wiskus, and John Gruber — has been updated to support Apple’s new adaptive interface frameworks. And yes, that means Vesper now lets you note and tag in landscape on you iPhone and on your iPad.

If all you’ve ever made are brief reminders or lists, the additional space might not mean much to you. It lets you use the landscape keyboard, which some prefer, but text benefits from the large screen mostly when you enter a lot of it. So, I expect those that use Vesper to collect not only thoughts but drafts will be happiest with the new, wider options.

Big screen notes and images are one only one aspect of the change, however. Being able to have all your notes follow you from iPhone to iPad — thanks to Vesper sync — is another. It makes a useful yet dedicated place to keep your thoughts into a universal place to store and access them.

Also new, standard Share sheet support, so you can send your Vesper notes to any app that supports Share extensions, and do anything to them that available as an action extension.

I’ve been using the new version of Vesper since it went into beta and the transition really has been pulled off with the usual Q Branch minimalism and elegance. Typing on my iPad is still a joy, and typing into Vesper that way is joyous.

That said, I’m not sure how much I’ll use the new modes for text entry. The biggest plus for me is availability.

The newly universal version of Vesper is a free update for existing customers and is currently available on sale for $7.99 for new customers.

John Gruber, writing about the new pricing on Daring Fireball:

Put another way, we’re going to charge something sane or die trying. We tried following the iOS App Store trend by pricing Vesper at just $2.99 for months. It didn’t work. Prices like that are not sane, and not sustainable, at least for well-crafted productivity apps. So Q Branch is drawing a line in the sand, and we hope other iOS developers will follow.

You can also read about why they went iPad instead of the previously announced Mac app at the Vesper blog.

Disclosure: I co-host a podcast with Dave Wiskus so check other reviews and get a well-rounded sense of the app if you’re at all unsure about it.

Seidio Spring Clip Holster for the Motorola Droid Turbo

There are belt clips and then there are belt clips. This is the latter, and that’s a good thing.

Not wanting a case on your Droid Turbo is one thing. Not wanting any protection at all on your shiny new Android phone is another. With its slick woven Kevlar backing (or ballistic nylon if that’s your thing) it sure looks like it could survive a drop or two on its own, but that doesn’t mean you should test fate. Seidio’s holster for the Droid Turbo offers a spring loaded clip that locks the phone in place when its not in use, providing just enough protection in the process to give you some extra peace of mind.
