Monstrous Math – a simple math game for our younger Windows Phone fans

There are plenty of quality children’s apps and games in the Windows Phone Store. Titles that not only will keep our kids entertained but will also teach them a thing or two along the way. Monstrous Math is one such Windows Phone app (or is it a game?) that hopes to teach children the basic math skills in a fun, animated app.

Monstrous Math covers addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems with each area having 12 stages. Each stage has five randomly generated equations, giving the game a little longevity. Available for low-memory Windows Phones, as well as Windows 8 devices, Monstrous Math is a strong option to consider for those with younger Windows Phone fans with a need exercise their math muscles.

Save any picture from the web to your iPhone or iPad

Whether you’re looking for a good iPhone wallpaper or want to share a gif you found online, there are lots of great reasons to save images to your iPhone or iPad.

Doing so is easy, but I’m still amazed how many people don’t actually know how to go about it (my mother included). So, in case you’re lost: Here’s a quick tutorial on saving images to your device — even the ones that won’t let you save them through normal means.

To save an image sent to you in Mail or Safari, it’s as easy as tapping and holding on the image in question.

When the share sheet pops up, just tap the Save Image button to send the photo to your Camera Roll.

In other apps, like Tweetbot, you may have to first tap the picture to enlarge it fullscreen, then tap and hold to save.

Finally, there are some sites on Safari that don’t allow picture saving, due to copyright reasons or the way the website is built. If it’s for copyright purposes — such as a pro photographer who wants to be paid for high-resolution versions of their images — I’d ask that you please respect the owner of those pictures and purchase anything you legitimately want to download.

If you need a low-resolution version, however, or the image you need isn’t downloadable, you can take a screenshot of it by pressing the Home button and On/Off button at the same time, then opening the screenshot in the Photos app and cropping accordingly.

That’s all there is to it! Hopefully that helped you just a bit on your way to iPhone and iPad mastery. If you have any other iPhone or iPad basic questions that need answering, let us know in our Q&A forum or in the comments below.

BlackBerry Leap ‘Rio’ gets caught in new photos

It seems the BlackBerry Rio, which might go to market as the BlackBerry Leap, can’t stay under wraps any longer. The mid-range or low-end depending on your tastes, all-touch device which has been appearing in various ways since late last year has now been caught in some new photos. As we noted before, the design is familiar to that of the Z3 but inside the specs are slightly different.

Brikk will wrap diamonds around the Apple Watch for ‘just’ $69,995

Apple isn’t taking orders yet for the Apple Watch, but that’s not stopping a company called Brikk from offering versions of the smartwatch with some high-end materials. One of them has diamonds placed on its case and band and costs $69,995.

Brikk is actually launching 30 different versions of their Apple Watch, under the Lux Watch branding. Pricing for the smartwatches range from “just” $7,495 for the Standard version to the previously mentioned $69,995 for the Lux Watch Omni. Apple has not offered much info on the way of Apple Watch pricing, other than stating the entry-level Sport edition will cost $349. There is some speculation that Apple could price the higher end gold edition at $10,000 or more.

Here are the details of what Brikk is offering with its Apple Watch version:

The Lux Watch is built in both 38mm and 42mm sizes and is available in 24-carat yellow gold, 18-carat pink gold, and 950 platinum. Customers have the ability to select from three different versions: The Standard, The Deluxe, and The Omni. The Lux Watch Standard offers a single row of diamonds totaling .50 carats around the face, and comes with a leather strap. The Lux Watch Deluxe has 2.3 carats of diamonds in multiple rows around the face, diamond encrusted buttons, and a leather strap with diamond studded clasp. For the ultimate in exclusivity, the Lux Watch Omni has a fully diamond-wrapped case and band of over 12 carats of diamonds.

The Lux Watch line stands out thanks to its meticulous production processes. Each piece is disassembled inside Brikk’s state-of-the-art laboratory in Los Angeles by a team of skilled engineers. They are hand polished, then plated with five layers of diverse metals before their final plating in either two layers of gold or platinum. High quality diamonds (color D, clarity VVS1) are set with a microscope in a custom-machined bezel. Each piece is then reassembled and tested before shipping to clients.

Each Lux Watch will be shipped in a “Zero Halliburton aluminum case with carbon fiber interior” which also contains a user manual and a (we are not kidding) “diamond-embedded certificate of authenticity”. Pre-orders are currently being taken for these high-end versions of the Apple Watch and they will ship about 4 to 6 weeks after Apple begins shipping their smartwatch sometime in April.

République Remastered brings its revamped graphics to the Mac

République Remastered, the graphically-revamped version of the acclaimed stealth action game, has now been released for the Mac. It’s also the first commercially-released game to use the new Unity 5 graphics engine.

The game, from developer Camouflaj, was previously released for the iPhone and iPad, using the older Unity 4 game engine. The new Mac version of République Remastered normally costs $24.99, but will be priced at just $19.99 during its launch week. It offers immediate access to the game’s first three episodes, and the price also covers the final two episodes when they are released. Here’s a breakdown of the game’s storyline:

In RÉPUBLIQUE REMASTERED, players assist Hope, a desperate young woman struggling to escape from a secret, Orwellian state. Communicating using a stolen phone, Hope contacts the player and asks them to hack into the nation’s surveillance system, assume control, and guide her out of the clutches of the omnipresent Overseer. Literary works such as 1984 and Brave New World, and current geopolitical events including global surveillance and Internet censorship serve as key sources of inspiration for both the narrative and the stealth-survival gameplay. Players expand their control over surveillance cameras and other network-enabled devices, growing into an active threat to the Overseer and his grip over his shadowy nation.

There’s also a deluxe version of the game that includes its soundtrack, a “making of” video documentary and what Camouflaj says are “two early prototypes”. The deluxe version normally costs $34.99 but during launch week it will cost just $27.99. You can find purchase and download links for both versions at Camouflaj’s website.
