T-Mobile shows off the edgy side of the Samsung Galaxy S6
So, what do we have here? Only the most detailed picture yet of the soon-to-be-announced Galaxy S6, courtesy of T-Mobile setting up a page where you can register your interest in Samsung’s latest and greatest Galaxy flagship.
As you can see from the image above, this is the clearest view of the Galaxy S6 yet, showing off an edgy side. The much discussed ‘Home’ button is also visible (you either love-it-or-hate-it), as is the Power button. Six Appeal is how T-Mobile describes it, and you have to admit, they may well be on to something because all the leaks point to a good-looking phone so far. It isn’t long to go until all is revealed at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on March 1st, and you can be sure that the steady stream of leaks and teases will continue.

Alpha version of GravityBox for Lollipop now available

It was a relatively long wait, but definitely worth it. Developer rovo89 released the first alpha for Xposed Framework for Lollipop ten days ago, finally bringing fans of the customization platform the ability to mix and match their favorite features on top of Android 5.0. Now using Xposed became has got even easier thanks to the release of GravityBox for Lollipop.
Developer C3C076 announced on XDA that the alpha version of GravityBox v5.0.0 is currently available and should be compatible with all devices running stock Android. For now, the tool has been tested on a Nexus 5; Google Play edition phones should work fine, while further testing is needed for the Moto G. GravityBox 5 should not be used on the Moto X (2014) for now, as it causes bootloops according to C3C076.
GravityBox 5.0 will not work with custom ROMs like CyanogenMod or Paranoid Android, or with manufacturer versions of Android, like TouchWiz or Sense.
GravityBox for Xposed offers a collection of features that can be used to easily extend the functionality of a rooted device, without having to flash a new ROM. As such, it’s ideal for those who want to get started with Android customization, but can’t – or don’t want to – mess with ROMs.
GravityBox features, as per C3C076:
- CyanogenMod Pie controls
- Expanded Desktop
- Statusbar QuickSettings tile management with additional tiles and reordering /* work in progress */
- Statusbar icon coloring
- Statusbar Brightness Control
- Center clock in statusbar
- Battery indicator style
- Navigation bar tweaks including cursor control keys
- Low battery warning policy
- Disable LED flashing when battery low
- Disable LED while charging
- Advanced power-off menu (reboot, recovery)
- Volume key cursor control
- Skip tracks by volume key long-press while screen off (thanks to rovo89)
- More volume levels for music stream
- Option to control safe headset media volume
- Button for clearing all recent tasks at once
- Minimal brightness setting
- Autobrightness levels adjustment
- Lockscreen tweaks
- Hardware/navigation key actions
- Notification drawer style (background color, image for portait/landscape, transparency)
- Button backlight modes (default, disabled, always on while screen is on)
- Dialer (Phone) tweaks
- Google Launcher tweaks
- Screen recording
- GravityBox Actions – interface for 3rd party apps
- Smart Radio
- Notification control (per-app notification LED/sounds/vibrations)
- Ascending ring tone
Both GravityBox v5.0 and Xposed Framework for Lollipop are in alpha, so some bugs, inconsistencies, and other issues should be expected. Newbies are probably better off waiting for a more stable version. But, if you’re comfortable with the bleeding edge, feel free to get started with the new GravityBox from this XDA thread.

Softbank prices its Pepper robot out of some developers’ pockets
Softbank’s adorable robot may be short and cute, but it’ll still cost the price of a secondhand car to bring one into your home. The Japanese network has revealed that the first Pepper devices on the market will cost just over nine grand to buy. Similar to Google’s Glass Explorer project, Softbank will sell the first proper production run of 300 units to developers in the hope that they’ll build apps for the automaton.
Rather than just a one-off payment, prospective users will be asked for $1,660 up front, followed by $206 a month for the following three years. That monthly charge includes access to Softbank’s cloud-based artificial intelligence which is accessed via its mobile network. The fee also covers insurance, so if the worst should happen and Pepper falls down the stairs, you won’t be left crying over a broken robot. The network has also admitted that it’s selling the devices at an overall loss, but hopes that Pepper will one day graduate from selling coffee to something with a better paycheck.

Apple announces €1.7 billion plan to erect two new Europe-based data centers
Apple today announced the company will invest €1.7 billion ($1.9 billion) in two new European data centers, each powered by 100% renewable energy. The first of two will be located in County Galway, Ireland and the second will be constructed in Jutland, Denmark. The new capacity will power various Apple services, including the iTunes Store, App Store, iMessage, Maps and Siri across the continent.
The new Apple data centers will measure 166,000 square meters and are expected to commence operations in 2017. Apple will also be helping out the local communities in both countries. For Ireland, the company will help restore native trees to Derrydonnell Forest and provide an outdoor education space for schools, while in Denmark, Apple will capture excess heat from facility equipment to help warm homes in the neighboring community.
See the press release below for more details.
Apple to Invest €1.7 Billion in New European Data Centres
State-of-the-art facilities in Ireland and Denmark will run on 100 percent renewable energy
CORK, Ireland—February 23, 2015—Apple® today announced a €1.7 billion plan to build and operate two data centres in Europe, each powered by 100 percent renewable energy. The facilities, located in County Galway, Ireland, and Denmark’s central Jutland, will power Apple’s online services including the iTunes Store®, App Store℠, iMessage®, Maps and Siri® for customers across Europe.
“We are grateful for Apple’s continued success in Europe and proud that our investment supports communities across the continent,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “This significant new investment represents Apple’s biggest project in Europe to date. We’re thrilled to be expanding our operations, creating hundreds of local jobs and introducing some of our most advanced green building designs yet.”
Apple supports nearly 672,000 European jobs, including 530,000 jobs directly related to the development of iOS apps. Since the App Store’s debut in 2008, developers across Europe have earned more than €6.6 billion through the worldwide sale of apps.
Apple now directly employs 18,300 people across 19 European countries and has added over 2,000 jobs in the last 12 months alone. Last year, Apple spent more than €7.8 billion with European companies and suppliers helping build Apple products and support operations around the world.
Like all Apple data centres, the new facilities will run entirely on clean, renewable energy sources from day one. Apple will also work with local partners to develop additional renewable energy projects from wind or other sources to provide power in the future. These facilities will have the lowest environmental impact yet for an Apple data centre.
“We believe that innovation is about leaving the world better than we found it, and that the time for tackling climate change is now,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environmental Initiatives. “We’re excited to spur green industry growth in Ireland and Denmark and develop energy systems that take advantage of their strong wind resources. Our commitment to environmental responsibility is good for the planet, good for our business and good for the European economy.”
The two data centres, each measuring 166,000 square metres, are expected to begin operations in 2017 and include designs with additional benefits for their communities. For the project in Athenry, Ireland, Apple will recover land previously used for growing and harvesting non-native trees and restore native trees to Derrydonnell Forest. The project will also provide an outdoor education space for local schools, as well as a walking trail for the community.
In Viborg, Denmark, Apple will eliminate the need for additional generators by locating the data centre adjacent to one of Denmark’s largest electrical substations. The facility is also designed to capture excess heat from equipment inside the facility and conduct it into the district heating system to help warm homes in the neighboring community.
Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world, along with OS X, iLife, iWork and professional software. Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store. Apple has reinvented the mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App Store, and is defining the future of mobile media and computing devices with iPad.
This is the best Samsung Galaxy S6 photo leak yet, thanks T-Mobile

What do we have here? Yes, that is what appears to be the best teaser photo of the Samsung Galaxy S6 we’ve seen yet, as found on the T-Mobile website.
The page itself on the T-Mobile site offers little more than the image, embellished by the cheeky words “Six Appeal,” and a note to check back on March 1st. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Samsung will be officially announcing their latest flagship device next week, and that U.S. consumers will be able to at least pre-register, if not pre-order, from T-Mobile without delay after the announcement.

I don’t suppose I need to cover our expectations of Samsung’s expected new flagship device – you’ve probably already read our full Samsung Galaxy S6 rumor roundup, which was most recently updated just this past week.
I will say, the device we are seeing in the T-Mobile image, appears to be the Edge variant of the device. With the curved sides of the display that wrap around just a little way. There is a touch of class borrowed from the Galaxy Note 4 here as well. Just look at that backing, that appears to be metal, and the shiny chromed metal looking ring garnishing the glass of the display, looks like metal to me.
Head on over to the T-Mobile page to see the image in it’s full glory.
What do you say, does this one new image change any of your opinions or expectations for the Samsung Galaxy S6?
