New Pebble watch will reportedly feature a thinner design and a colored e-paper display

pebble-steel-aa-20140321-015-4

Pebble currently has a countdown on their homepage, which is set to end Tuesday, February 24th at 9AM EST. The company hasn’t released any details on what’s to come, though we could only assume it could be a new watch since it’s been over a year since the Pebble Steel launched.

Pebble countdown

To further our assumptions, a report from 9to5Mac states that Pebble is preparing to launch a much thinner watch with a larger screen, colored e-paper display and a new version of Pebble OS:

However, multiple sources tell us that a major update to both the Pebble’s hardware and software have been in the works and that these changes could be ready to debut next week. The new watch is said to (finally) gain a slightly wider, color, e-paper-like display that will be encased in an overall thinner design.

Pebble is evidently still aiming to keep battery life up to 5-7 days, even with the addition of a colorful display. The new Pebble hardware will apparently gain a microphone, giving developers the ability to create a slew of new applications for the watch. Additionally, the new Pebble OS will be a major revamp from the company’s previous versions, and is being “redesigned from the ground-up” by the team behind webOS. Also according to the report, the new hardware won’t feature a touchscreen or a heart-rate monitor.

This new OS version should come at no surprise, since Pebble’s CEO, Eric Migicovsky, announced that the company was working on a revamp a few weeks ago. Now, it’s entirely possible that Pebble won’t announce any new hardware or software at the end of this countdown, so we can’t be certain until next Tuesday rolls around.

Pebble’s website is now displaying a mysterious countdown timer

Screen Shot 2015-02-19 at 17.34.50

Last month, Pebble announced it had sold over 1 million units of its smartwatch and has some “big things” planned for 2015. Now it would appear that our wait for these things could be over sooner than previously anticipated. Earlier today, the manufacturer kicked off a mysterious countdown on the homepage of its website.

Unfortunately, the company failed to specify what exactly would happen once the countdown expired. We’re guessing it’s a press event, in which it will unveil the new style of its smartwatch and operating system its been working on this past year. On the other hand, it could just be an announcement of a new software update.

Either way, we’ll have to wait until 10:00AM ET on Tuesday, February 24, to find out what Pebble has in store for us.

Geeksphone’s wearable tracks sexual performance, other boring stuff

Geeksphone, the company behind a dual-OS handset and the ultra-secure Blackphone, is trying its hand at wearables. The upcoming Geeksme band appears to be rather smartwatch-esque with a circular OLED display framed by 12 bi-color LEDs, tracking steps, distance, calories burned and sleep. It’ll also wrangle calls, messages and reminders on your wrist. How does Geeksme hope to stand out? It tracks sexual performance and monitors “progress” in the bedroom. The device keeps tabs on your “ecological footprint” as well, so you’re always informed about how your habits impact the environment. Unfortunately, the company isn’t showing off the hardware just yet, and details (like how it monitors bedroom activity) are scarce, but it’s planning to launch later this year. You can rest assured we’re on the hunt for more details — perhaps at this month’s Mobile World Congress.

Microsoft OneDrive gains Material Design refresh in first beta release

onedrive

Microsoft has just released their first beta version of the OneDrive Android app, which brings a nice Material Design refresh. The app doesn’t feature any changes in functionality or bring any new enhancements on board, but it does provide a nice visual change.

As you can see from the images above, the entire app is flat blue and white. The status bar is now blue as well, which is a subtle but nice change. Also, Microsoft has done away with the ugly gray action bar on the bottom, and has brought a floating action button on board, which features a bright orange color. The action button features the only orange in the entire app, so it’s an odd decision on Microsoft’s part to make it that color. Other than that, we have a slide-our hamburger menu on the left side of the interface that has gained a simpler, more minimalistic layout. The Settings menu and different file views have been reworked, and the entire app has become a lot less complicated in design.

If you’d like to get your hands on the first beta version of OneDrive, feel free to join the OneDrive Preview Google+ Community, or head to the link below to side load the apk before the official update rolls out.

Relive the classic game of Pong with Soccer Pong

Soccer_Pong_Game_Large_Icon

I know some of our younger readers may not have heard of Pong. It was introduced in 1972, and it was the Pac-Man of that era. It was the simplest of simple in terms of game play and graphics, but we couldn’t get enough of it.

For those of you that are old enough to remember, it’s time to relive those memories with a new game called Soccer Pong. If you don’t remember, that’s okay, because you can relive your parent’s memories and wonder how we made it through life without Call of Duty.

Soccer Pong plays just like the classic, except it takes place on a soccer (or football) field, giving it a more updated look. OriginSoftware also added some modern day elements such as the ability to put spin on the ball as well as play against others from around the world (Beta). That’s something we never imagined back in the 70s.

Another cool feature is the ability to upgrade your paddle. Paddles are rated by size, speed, and the ability to put a greater amount of spin on the ball. You know the drill……you will earn coins as you play that can be redeemed for better paddles, or you can purchase coins with your hard earned money.

Soccer Pong is the perfect game for those of you that love retro and just don’t have a lot of time for games. You can play matches against the computer at easy, medium, or hard, as well as play against a friend, either with you or online. The online version is in Beta for the moment.

Soccer Pong is free with in-app purchases in case you want to buy more coins, but trust me, this game will provide a lot of fun without the need to drop any change.

Give it a try and let me know what you think.

HTC teases ‘something huge is coming’

HTC_One_Back_HTC_Logo_TA

March 1st is about 2 weeks away in which HTC themselves already confirmed will be the debut of the HTC One (M9). Now today they are being more riddle-like.

Today’s tweet states, “Something HUGE is coming from HTC. Imagine [number][big thing] in space. And then [math term] that by [number]. #Madlib”

As you can see the hashtag madlib is basically asking you to fill in the blanks, but no matter how you slice it, the result should be pretty big. So what is HTC getting at? It could be the HTC One (M9) Plus, but I should mention that no date was specified. That means that it might not have anything to do with Mobile World Congress or specifically, March 1st.

Any thoughts?
