Samsung Galaxy Tab S 2 specifications leaked, only 5.4mm thick along with 8 and 9.7-inch options

It was only a few days ago that we found out that Samsung was working on a second generation Galaxy Tab S range of tablets with the model numbers SM-T710 and SM-T810. A couple of days after that, it was leaked that the new models would be thinner than the Apple iPad Air 2. Now, we have the full specifications of both Galaxy Tab S 2 models, courtesy of Sammobile.

Probably the biggest standout feature has to be how thin the Tab S 2 will be. The iPad Air 2 is only 6.1 mm thick, so we figured it might come in at 6.0 mm. However, it appears Samsung is going to blow us away, bringing it to 5.4 mm. That is insanely thin, and one has to wonder if that is actually too thin?

Next up is the display size, of which Samsung has changed yet again, although they are still using Super AMOLED Technology. The SM-T710 will sport an 8-inch display while the SM-T810 has been whittled down to 9.7-inches. Apart from the changing of screen size, the most noticeable change is going from 16:10 to the 4:3 ratio, as sported by the Nexus 9. Screen resolution is also changing, going to 2048 x 1536 instead of the 2560 x 1600 as found in the first generation Tab S models. It’s doubtful anyone will notice the difference in screen resolution unless one is peering at the display through a microscope. The lowering of the resolution should also prove more energy efficient.

Both models appear to continue Samsung’s recent trend in using their own processors. They will again eschew Qualcomm’s offerings in favour of the Exynos 5433 CPU, which can be found in the Galaxy Note 4. This choice of processor has not been finalised though, as it is possible that because the tablets will be running Android 5.0.2 from launch, that the newer, 64-bit Exynos 7420 chip will be utilised instead.

• 3,580mAh/5,870mAh batteries
• Dimensions: SM-T710 (8-inch) 198.2 x 134.5 x 5.4mm/ SM-T810 (9.7-inch) 237.1 x 168.8 x 5.4mm
• SM-T710 weighs 260g/ SM-T810 weighs 407g.

Other than the choice of colours, pricing and availability, there isn’t much left to the imagination at all. It’s believed that the Galaxy Tab S 2 range of tablets will be officially announced mid-2015.
