CHOETECH set to launch 19w solar panel charger with dual auto-detect ports Feb 23rd

Spring is close at hand and means summer isn’t too far off either. For me that means sunshine, lakes, rivers, camping, fishing and hiking. While I like to disconnect, a plethora of devices generally make it into the bag when I head out to enjoy some sunshine. A portable solar panel is something I will […]

Not that long ago I reviewed the Kingston MobileLite Wireless drive for you guys. Apple Watch graces the cover of Self Magazine’s March issue

After being featured on the cover of the Chinese edition of Vogue back in October, the Apple Watch is set to grace a magazine cover yet again. Self Magazine announced today that its March cover will feature Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel sporting Apple’s upcoming wearable.

On the cover, Swanepoel is seen wearing the white-strapped sport edition of the Apple watch. Given the fact that Self is a magazine concerned with health, fitness, and well-being, the publication focuses on the health aspects of the watch in its announcement:

Using an accelerometer, a built-in heart rate sensor, GPS and WiFi from your iPhone to provide a comprehensive picture of your daily activity; consequently, measures three separate aspects of movement: calories burned, brisk activity and how often you stand up during the day.

Apple has thus far been busy promoting the Apple watch’s fashion prowess with the previously mentioned appearance on the cover of Vogue and a display during Paris Fashion Week. However, this latest appearance reinforces that the wearable is a whole lot more than a fashion accessory.

Lawsuit claims Apple poached engineers from battery manufacturer A123 Systems

Apple is currently facing yet another lawsuit involving accusations of employee poaching. A recent filing from A123 Systems, a battery manufacturer, claims that Apple poached several engineers from the company for its new battery division, violating agreements set forth in their employment contracts in the process.

The report comes from Law360:

A123 filed suit Feb. 6 in Massachusetts Superior Court, alleging Apple hired away five employees who developed new battery technology and products and tested existing products, despite the fact that the employees were under contracts with noncompete, nonsolicit, and nondisclosure obligations.

Since June, Apple has been mounting “an aggressive campaign to poach employees of A123 and to otherwise raid A123’s business,” the complaint said.

Further, A123 says that, after the employees left, it found emails on company computers from Apple’s hiring personnel to the engineers in question.

It’s not entirely clear what the employees are working on in their new home at Apple. However, recent rumblings about an all-electric Apple Car, as well as rumored battery life on the upcoming Apple Watch could provide some clues.

Motorola Moto 360 receiving minor 5.0.2 update

moto 360 unboxing initial setup (7 of 13)

Heads up, fellow Moto 360 owners — a new update is now starting to rollout! The new version brings the watch up to version 5.0.2. For those curious, the build number here is LWX49L. As you might expect, it’s a pretty minor update, with the change log promising bug fixes and security updates, updated Google Play services and a few other optimizations that should hopefully improve performance.

It remains unseen whether those performance improvements make a big impact on how well the Moto 360 performs, though it seems that each update makes my own personal Moto 360 just a little better (battery life, stability, etc), and so I look forward to the upgrade. Unfortunately, I have yet to personally receive the update, and so don’t be surprised if isn’t immediately availability for your upgrading pleasure.

Have you received the update yet? Let us know in the comments.

Lollipop soak test for 1st Generation Moto G starting to roll out

Moto_G_Back_TAWhile most other manufacturers are busy getting their flagship devices ready for Android Lollipop, Motorola is prepping its first generation Moto G for the update. Some users with the 8 GB, 3G-only Canadian model have been notified about the Android 5.0.2 upgrade, so while that’s being limited to a very small selection of devices, it does mean that a bigger rollout is on its way.

This soak test brings devices up to Android 5.0.2, skipping 5.0.1. The incremental update really only affected tablets, but at least you’ll be able to say you’ve got the latest and greatest on your Moto G when it hits. At least until Google takes the wraps off of Android 5.1, anyway.

Keep an eye out for this update over the next few weeks if you’re still using the original Moto G.

Banjo review: Know what’s going on

Banjo might just be the app that everybody needs in their pocket. Nothing quite does the job of updating you on everything that’s going on around the world like Banjo does, as it gathers small news and huge news alike for you to see what’s going on.

Banjo’s homepage is comprised of Trending Events, News, Sports, Music, More Events and “Suggest and Event”.

Trending Events mainly includes events and pieces of news that are trending around social media outlets such as Instagram and Twitter. When tapping on an article, you’re given a list of all the people and news sources talking about it, as well as pictures. People at the certain event can post pictures of it directly to Banjo, or the app will automatically include an Instagram or Tweet of yours if you use the right hashtag.

In the News section, users are given an extensive list of events with a thumbnail picture under the continent that it is happening.

Once again, upon tapping any type of news, you are taken to a list of sources currently reporting on the news, whether it be individual people or major news sources like Yahoo News.

I like the Music section of the app that shows you concerts and festivals all around the world, and sliding the menu out from the right allows you to filter out certain music genres to only the ones you want to see. I only wish Banjo could use my location to show me events coming up in my area. Banjo does let you suggest an event, but I’m surprised that I don’t already see upcoming events in Columbus, Ohio. The only part of the app that uses location, is a separate page that gives you tweets and instagram photos of random people in your area you don’t know. They are completely random tweets too, I’m not sure why I would want to see that.

Regardless, Banjo is the app for people who want to keep updated with small and major events around the world, whether it be for national disasters, car accidents, traffic jams or huge festivals in Brazil. Check out the Google Play link below

Apple Watch Makes U.S. Magazine Cover Debut In Latest Issue of ‘Self’

Back in October, the Apple Watch made its magazine cover debut with Vogue China, on the wrist of Chinese model Liu Wen. Now, as Apple prepares to launch the Apple Watch in April, the device is seeing its U.S. magazine cover debut, featured in the March issue of Self magazine (via AppleInsider).

Model and Victoria’s Secret Angel Candice Swanepoel will be wearing the Apple Watch Sport with a white fluoroelastomer band on the cover of the magazine. Self also has more in-depth coverage on the device, highlighting its accelerometer, heart rate sensor, GPS and WiFi in print and in photos.

candice-apple-watch

Aside from the I-want-to-be-Candice quality of our new March cover, notice anything else about the photo? The Apple Watch is getting a star moment, too, as Candice is the first woman to wear one on a magazine cover in the US. With the device starting at around $349 available next month, it’s on our wishlist. (Even our editor-in-chief, Joyce Chang, can’t wait to use her Apple Watch–check it out in our March Editor’s Letter, available to download below.)

Up until now, Apple’s Apple Watch marketing has been heavily focused on fashion, but with the piece in Self, the company appears to be targeting fitness enthusiasts who might purchase the Apple Watch for its health-related functions — step tracking and heart rate monitoring.

It’s likely that Self will be just one of many publications to feature the Apple Watch in the coming weeks as the device’s launch approaches, and Apple is expected to market the Apple Watch to a wide range of potential customers. Apple’s marketing efforts have been fairly reserved thus far, limited to an appearance at Parisian fashion boutique Colette in September, the Vogue China cover in October, and this month’s Self issue, but there are hints that Apple is preparing for a major marketing push.

As we reported last month, Apple asked some developers creating content for the Apple Watch to have their apps completed by mid-February, possibly to have apps ready to go for marketing or event purposes. As of this week, Apple is also reportedly inviting select developers to its Cupertino headquarters to put the finishing touches on many Apple Watch apps.

According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, Apple is planning to begin Apple Watch sales in April, though a more specific date has not yet been shared.
