AT&T adds Mexico to GoPhone plan, ups data allowance on two GoPhone plans
AT&T continues to capitalize on their acquisition of Iusacell and expanding into the Mexican market. Last month the carrier added free calling to Mexico for AT&T customers. Not to be left out, AT&T’s prepaid service GoPhone is reaping some benefits of the expansion.
Starting February 20th, GoPhone users on the $60 plan will enjoy the same unlimited calling to Mexico that AT&T customers get.
AT&T also tweaked two of their data plans a bit to provide some additional high-speed data to their GoPhone users. GoPhone customers who have a 1 GB plan for $45 per month will see their high speed data cap increase to 1.5 GB per month. Users who currently have 2.5 GB plan for $60 per month will have a new high-speed cap at 4 GB of data. When customers exceed their monthly cap, AT&T throttles data speed, but there are no additional charges to continue to access the data network.
AT&T says the changes are just a way to show their appreciation for GoPhone customers. Users on either plan do not need to do anything to take advantage of these additional features – AT&T will automatically add them to user accounts.

AT&T GoPhone upping its data limits, adding unlimited calling to Mexico on $60 plan
When it comes to getting prepaid service through AT&T’s network, StraightTalk and Cricket might prove to be some of the best routes, though with the former you get less than great customer service if things go wrong and with the latter you have to be okay with having your download speeds restricted to no higher than 4MBPS for HSPA+ and 8MBPS for LTE.
For those that have a need for speed and want the best customer service possible, AT&T does offer its own branded service in AT&T GoPhone. Of course, AT&T GoPhone tends to be more expensive than the aforementioned options, but thankfully they are now sweetening the deal a little by bolstering the amount of data included in their $45 and $60 monthly plans.
Starting February 20th, AT&T will up high-speed data to 1.5GB from 1GB for the $45 plan, and $60 monthly plan users will see an increase from 2.5GB to 4GB. As before, you will continue to have data access even if you use up all your high speed allotment, though AT&T will throttle your connection to near dialup speeds of just 128KBPS.
In addition to upping the amount of data, the $60 plan also is adding unlimited calling to Mexico at no extra charge. While the $45 plan doesn’t include this perk, both plans allow unlimited texting to Mexico, Canada and over 100 other countries. Now that AT&T has improved its deals a bit, you think they are worth signing up for? Let us know what you think in the comments.
Google Pulls ‘Sparrow’ Mail Apps From App Store to Focus on New ‘Inbox’ App [iOS Blog]
Google has quietly removed both the iOS and Mac versions of its Sparrow email apps from Apple’s App Stores, amid reports the company is shifting to focus more intently on its revamped Inbox by Gmail app (via TechCrunch).
The company bought alternative email client app Sparrow back in 2012 and launched Inbox by Gmail to select users last fall, with a wider release earlier this year.
At the time of its launch, Sparrow offered a unique and accessible email client that made it popular with a wide audience. Google’s acquisition saw the Sparrow team focusing on non-Sparrow related projects, and the app’s lack of continued developer support saw it nosedive in the App Store rankings in the years since.
Sparrow flying away for good shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, but it has been a long time coming. At the time of Google’s acquisition in 2012, reportedly for under $25 million, Sparrow/Google more or less stopped big developments but kept the apps operational and pledged support for existing users.
The Sparrow iOS app never received iOS 8 support and the Mac App was never updated after the acquisition at all, so Google’s removal of the apps from the storefront isn’t too shocking. Some of that same Sparrow team, including product designer Jean-Marc Denis, have gone on to help Google out with the new Inbox app.
Inbox by Gmail is available to download for free from the App Store. [Direct Link]
