Tests show the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 actually runs cooler than the Snapdragon 801

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor has had quite a lot of controversy surrounding it the last few weeks, most notably suffering from overheating issues allegedly significant enough for Samsung to shy away from it for their latest flagship, the Galaxy S6. Nerf’s higher-powered foam guns are meant for older fans

Nerf Rival guns

Nerf guns can be fun if you’re a grown-up — just ask the legions of people who modded the Maverick revolver. They’re not really intended for an older audience, however, which is why Hasbro just unveiled a range of Nerf blasters meant for high schoolers (and adults) who take their plastic weapons seriously. The highlight is the Rival line you see above, which shoots foam balls at nearly 70MPH — they won’t sting like paintball rounds, but you’re definitely going to feel the blow. You can get the $50 Zeus MXV-1200 if you insist on fast motorized reloads; you also snag the $25 Apollo XV-700 if you’re content with lever action.

Hasbro hasn’t forgotten the customization crowd. Its $50 Nerf N-Strike Modulus (below) is designed to use $15 upgrade kits that change the dart gun’s role; you can turn it into a close-quarters shooter or a long-range rifle, and there’s even a stock that doubles as a backup gun. You’ll have to be patient if you’re eager to upgrade your arsenal, though. Neither the Modulus nor the Rival line are shipping until the fall, so you’ll have to make do with the existing range during summer vacation.

Using your Google Play wishlist

The wishlist is a great place to stash things for later, but that’s about it

Google Play’s wishlist is something of an oddity. You can’t share your wishlist. People cannot buy you things off your wishlist. Because of this, most users seem to think the wishlist in Google Play is useless, but they are wrong! Oh, yes, it does have a purpose!

You just have to ignore the name.

Apple hires the UK’s biggest radio DJ to help boost its music service

Zane Lowe

While Apple reportedly has “hundreds” of employees working to build the fabled “Apple Car,” the company is also busy integrating its Beats acquisition into iTunes. We may not have to wait too long to see fruits of that union, but before we do, Apple is acquiring talent to ensure the launch gets off to a good start. The UK’s biggest radio DJ, Zane Lowe, today confirmed that after 12 years at the BBC’s Radio 1 station, he’s abandoning Britain for the sunnier skies of Cupertino.

Zane, who will broadcast his final show on March 5th, is renowned for championing new music and was instrumental in the rise of big UK acts like the Arctic Monkeys, Adele and Ed Sheeran. He’s also conducted a number of interviews with some of the biggest names in music, including Jay Z, Kanye West, Eminem, Chris Martin and producer Rick Rubin.

Not much is known about the New Zealander’s new position at Apple, other than that he’ll help to build the company’s iTunes Radio/Beats Music products. However, given his close relationship with artists and knowledge of the global music scene, it’s easy to speculate that the radio DJ could help curate playlists for Apple’s “new” music service and continue conducting interviews with the artists featured within them.

High fives and fist bumps, here’s Google’s latest Android commercial

Android be together not the same

Android has been the focus of Google‘s latest string of TV commercials. Starting with Androidify characters on a bus back at the announcement of Android 5.0 Lollipop through to a more recent spot filled with a handful of cute animals, big and small, in unlikely friendships.

The latest Android commercial hit just recently. Foregoing the cartoons and animals, Google shows off a collection of impressive, and sometimes dorky, human interactions, all centered around the high five.

In the one minute spot, handshakes and fist bumps are performed with skill, careful planning, a lack of careful planning and even a total lack of skill. All in all, the message remains the same, “Be together. Not the same.

No products in sight, no insights into the future, just good old fashioned fun. If the video did not load above, head on over to Google’s YouTube channel for Android to see them all in action.

Which Android commercial is your favorite so far?

Apple’s car project said to be self-driving, electric, and unconventionally manufactured

After exploding onto the scene we’re learning more and more about Apple’s supposed automotive project, which is now said to include self-driving technologies. The vehicle, which has been described as (at this stage) being “minivan-like” is definitely in the gestational stages, with Apple toying around not just with autonomous driving but also electric drivetrains and new manufacturing processes.

Per Reuters:

Apple is gathering advice on parts and production methods, the source said, adding that Apple appeared not to be interested in combustion engine technology or conventional manufacturing methods. …

In addition to building a car, there is money to be made from the software operating system for a self-driving vehicle, as well as the services associated with autonomous driving, such as high-definition mapping, car-sharing and electric car recharging services, the auto industry source said.

“It’s a software game. It’s all about autonomous driving,” the source said.

Apple’s car project is said to include hundreds of employees. What exactly they’re aiming to produce is up in the air, although Apple is apparently exploring all avenues — they are a company that will try just about anything internally. Unlike Google, which will try just about anything, including self-driving electric cars in the public. Whatever comes of this we probably won’t know for some time (it might just be Apple building a test-bed for a next generation of CarPlay)… just look at how long we’ve been waiting for a ‘proper’ Apple TV.

How would you change Apple’s Photos app?

Photos was one of the apps that not only drove people to buy the original iPhone, but helped them show off why they bought it. Yes, Mike Matas and team had us at pinch-to-zoom. Over the years, Apple introduced video, integrated with additional services like Flickr, and added basic editing tools and filters. The biggest improvements, however, came with iOS 7 — and a whole new Photos app. It offered all an all-new organizational model, based on Years, Collections, and Moments, much better, non-destructive editing tools, and integration with iCloud Photo Library, which promised better storage and sync for all photos and videos. In other words, along with Photos for Mac, Apple has made it a core part of their operating systems.

But that was then and this is now. So, what would you like to see Apple do with Photos next?

  • Add automatic animated GIF creation from burst photos.
  • Integrate Faces detection and organization.
  • Bring over smart folders.
  • Show histogram.
  • Add sharpness, blur, white balance, noise reduction, levels, vignette, and tilt shift.
  • Copy edits from one photo and apply to another.
  • From the Share sheet, add photos to a specific album.
  • Add retouching feature.
  • Automatically group screenshots into an Screenshot Album.
  • Allow text to be added to photos, because memes.
  • Enable Touch ID or Passcode for private photos album.
  • Less expensive iCloud Photo Library storage tiers.

If Apple asked you what you wanted in Photos for iOS 9, what would you tell them?
