First video teaser for Galaxy S6 is all about the camera

samsung galaxy s6 teaser

Samsung just tweeted the first video teaser for the upcoming Galaxy S6.

The 17-second clip doesn’t seem to contain any hidden clues about the appearance or features of the Galaxy S6 and its curved edge sibling, but the camera outline and the copy suggests the camera experience will be a big part of the Galaxy S6’ appeal.

The camera icon at the end seems to match the many alleged renders and schematics that have surfaced over the last couple of weeks. If these leaks are accurate, the Galaxy S6 will feature a protruding camera of roughly square shape with rounded corners, as well as a flash/heart rate sensor module positioned to the right of the camera.

Samsung has begun talking about the Galaxy S6’ camera earlier this week, when an executive promised an “intelligent” camera with unique functions. And, just today, Samsung published an infographic detailing the evolution of Samsung phone cameras, another hint that the imaging experience will be a key selling point for the S6.

According to an inside source cited by SamMobile, the Galaxy S6 will feature a 20MP front camera with OIS, and a 5MP front camera. The device will make use of the new Camera API in Lollipop by giving users more fine control over the shots. Stay tuned for more.

Watch Google’s Android Chorus bring 300 devices together in tinny harmony

In the hope of drawing attention to its Androidify app (and the fact that you’ve been able to make your own for almost four years now), Google programmed 300 devices (and their Android character) to ‘sing’ (and flail the limbs around, roughly in time, in the middle of a classy shopping center in upscale Omotesando, Tokyo, Japan. Like a bonafide real chorus, the devices were separated out into parts, though we could also pick out a smattering of beatboxing droids too. If you have entirely not enough pride, you could even take a turn as a conductor, with a gesture sensor conveying your hand movements to your Google singing group. For such overtly public shaming, you were rewarded with a free Android t-shirt. The performances will continue through this Valentine Day weekend, and it will all sound a little something like this:

When I meet someone, I generally shake their hand, but I never realized how many different ways there are to do the “handshake.” In case you’re wondering as well, Google shows you in their new 60 second commercial that continues to promote the “Be Together, Not the Same” campaign.

“No matter how you shake it, you can’t do it alone. ”

iWork for iCloud Beta Apps Now Accessible Without an Apple Device

Apple on Thursday made Pages, Numbers and Keynote accessible to users without an Apple device through iCloud Beta. Starting last night, anyone can sign up for an Apple ID to access the trio of iWork for iCloud beta apps for free. Each account comes with 1GB of complimentary iCloud storage for use with the productivity software.

iCloud iWork Signup
While the offer is currently limited to the iCloud Beta website, it is likely that Apple will rollout the feature to the regular version in the future. To create a free Apple ID account, navigate to iCloud Beta and click on the get started link in the top banner to begin the signup process.

Apple introduced iWork for iCloud at WWDC 2013, bringing Pages, Numbers and Keynote to the web. After receiving “overwhelming response,” Apple eventually opened the service to all users a few months later. iWork for iCloud has been steadily improved since then with interactive charts, an updated design, expanded language support and more.

The impressive Calculator in Windows 10 for phones will convert all the things

One of the less glamorous, yet still essential, new apps in the Windows 10 Preview for phones is the Calculator. It’s one of those apps we just assume will be there when we need it, but with Windows 10 it’s becoming immensely more useful. Gone is the simplistic Calculator of old from Windows Phone 8.1, and in comes a new, feature packed version with scientific calculators and convertions galore.

Read on for a quick look at what it can do for you.

Google Maps adds lane guidance for 15 new European countries

Google-IO-2013 Google Maps 99 1600 aa

It was only just last year that Google introduced lane guidance to their turn-by-turn navigation in Google Maps, adding much needed assistance to finding your way on a new and unknown route. The feature is now rolling out to users in fifteen more European countries, so that they too can find their way.

This latest batch of additions to the lane guidance list more than doubles the available countries supported by Google Maps. With a new total of 23 supported countries, the newest addition of 15 includes the following:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Liechtenstein
  • Luxembourg
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Portugal
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland

Google Maps Lane Guidance Europe

This is exciting news not only for those that live in these areas (that still want navigation in their own towns) but also for the millions that travel to these countries every year. Whether looking for the world’s best chocolate, skiing, old world castles or just out for a monstrous drive across Europe, Google Maps will now help you always be in the correct lane as you try to get there.

Any globe trotters excited for lane guidance in Google Maps navigation for these additional European countries?
