You can finally upload to Google Play Music on an ARM-powered Chromebook

chromebooks-apps-flyout

Back in March of last year, Google introduced a web-based way to upload locally stored music files onto Google Play Music. The feature not only played nicely with the Chrome browser, but it also meant that, for the first time, Chromebooks also had an option for Google Play Music uploading. On the downside, the feature only supported Chrome OS devices with Intel processors, leaving ARM users out of luck — until today.

Google’s François Beaufort announced the good news on Google+ today:

Google Play Music upload is now available for ARM Chromebook users thanks to the updated Google Play Music for Chrome App. Make sure you’ve installed the App from the Chrome Web Store first, then go to https://play.google.com/music, click on the “Add Music” orange button and upload your best-loved music directly from your ARM Chromebook.

Considering there are a number of Chromebooks that utilize ARM processors over Intel, personally we feel that Google should have added compatibility long before now, but better late than never. You can grab the updated Google Play Music app from the Chrome Web Store.

Samsung partners with Good Technology to offer an app ecosystem for enterprise users

Samsung Galaxy S5 181 knox

Samsung has partnered with Good Technology to create Good for Samsung Knox, which merges Good’s secure app ecosystem with Samsung’s enterprise security platform. Now businesses that have adopted Samsung’s Knox program will have the ability to allow employees to download a multitude of apps on a secure platform. Good is the first enterprise mobility management (EMM) that’s fully integrated directly into Samsung Knox. Samsung hopes this will open up an opportunity for enterprises and government agencies that are looking to accelerate their Android deployment to push mobile security further.

Christy Wyatt, chairman and CEO of Good Technology, says:

Good is trusted in 100-percent of the Fortune 100 commercial banks and aerospace and defense agencies, as well as thousands of other businesses and public agencies. Now the millions of deployed Good-secured apps and containers can be easily integrated with Samsung’s KNOX-secure Android solution.

This announcement follows on the heels of the Samsung Knox and Blackberry partnership from late last year. The partnership integrated BlackBerry’s cross-platform BES12 enterprise mobility management software into Samsung’s Knox security for Android devices. Additionally, certain features of Knox have been rolled into Google’s own “Android for Work” initiative that was announced at last year’s Google I/O.

Verizon’s site now lists the Nexus 6 as “coming soon”

nexus 6 verizon coming soon

A recent report stated that Google’s Nexus 6 handset would make its way to Verizon sometime in February, but as of now, we still have no idea when the phablet will launch on Big Red. As the rumored mid-February release date approaches, we’re seeing signs of the smartphone pop up on Verizon’s site. As of today, the Nexus 6 is listed on Verizon’s website as “coming soon.” If you’re interested in receiving updates as to when the device will be officially available, follow the Verizon link below to sign up for updates.

The Nexus 6 was launched back in October of 2014 and has since made its way to carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile, US Cellular, Sprint, and even to Mexico, Canada and various other countries around the world. Given the carrier’s track record with previous Nexus handsets, it should come as no surprise to anyone that Verizon would be one of the last major carriers to make the handset available.

With that said, if you can get your hands on the unlocked Nexus 6, it can be activated on Verizon’s network. However, if you’re not able to front the $649.99 price tag to Google or Motorola, the time to buy the Verizon Nexus 6 on-contract may be almost here.

Since its launch, the Nexus 6 has been extremely difficult to get a hold of. Months after multiple carriers and retailers couldn’t keep the device in stock, Google admitted to not being able to keep up with Nexus 6 supply demands.

Deal Alert: Grab an Alcatel Onetouch Idol Mini for $99 through February 9th

alcatel onetouch idol mini

Looking for an inexpensive Android smartphone? Alcatel Onetouch may have you covered. From now until February 9th, you can purchase the Alcatel Onetouch Idol Mini handset for only $99. Considering the phone is usually sold unlocked for $124.99, a 20% discount isn’t a bad deal in the slightest.

The Idol Mini may not have the best specs on the market, but it’s still a decent smartphone for only $99 off-contract. The device has a 4.3-inch IPS display with 854 x 480 resolution, a dual-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of on-board storage (single SIM variant), 8GB of on-board storage (dual SIM variant) and MicroSD expansion up to 32GB. Lack of 4G capabilities and the fact that it’s running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean may turn some users away from this deal. On the plus side, the unlocked handset is compatible with AT&T, T-Mobile, MetroPCS, Straight Talk and a number of other different carriers.

At CES 2015, Alcatel Onetouch announced their online store to sell devices in the United States. With that said, the handset is only available at a discounted price through the company’s online store. However, since the store is powered by Amazon, all Prime members can score free shipping on their order.

If you’d like to take advantage of this deal, head to the link below to grab your own Idol Mini through February 9th!

ASUS kicks off new ZenWatch competition

asus-zenwatch-official_01

ASUS has just kicked off a competition, in which it’s offering designers a chance to win a ZenWatch by creating a selection of new faces for the device.

If drawing isn’t your forte and you’re not very artistic, don’t worry. There’s another way to enter the contest to win a shiny new smart watch, and that’s simply by voting for your preferred design. ASUS will also be rewarding three participants in the Fan Favorite voting round with a gleaming new unit, too.

Designers who come up with the winning design in each of the following categories will all receive a ZenWatch: Overall Gold Medal, Best Beauty in Design, Best Practical Design, Best Creative Design, Best Student Design Award, and as mentioned above, the Fan Favorite — which is determined by the community voters, while the others are decided by ASUS staff.

Runners-up won’t go empty handed, either. Their hard work and efforts will be honored with a “one of a kind” ASUS certificate and a handwritten congratulatory letter.

The contest closes on February 10, with voting taking place up until February 28.

For more information on the competition, hit the source link below.

How to hide unwanted watch faces from showing on your Android Wear smartwatch

LG_G_Watch_R_Selecting_Watch_Faces_TA

One of the coolest things about Android Wear is the ability to load just about any watch face imaginable. However, sometimes you don’t want a bunch of faces showing up on the watch because it’s kind of a pain swiping through all of them. The pre-installed ones are generally the ones that you are most likely to never use so it would be cool if you can simply hide them from your watch making it a lot easier to find your favorite faces. Well there is a way, and you won’t believe how simple it is to do.

1) Open the Android Wear app on your phone.

2) You will notice that the three most recently used watch faces are showing on the main page of the app. Tap the More button to show you all the watch faces that are pre-installed and that you downloaded from Google Play.

3) To hide any of them, just tap on the three dot menu at the top right of any of the watch face cards and select Hide on watch.

4) You will now notice that watch face is grayed out and it will no longer appear on your smartwatch. You can do this to as many watch faces as you want.

htc_hold_the_crown_rap_video

HTC decided to do something a little different when it came to marketing their HTC One M8 and apparently not content to just test the waters, they decided to go all in with their latest effort. If you enjoy the surreal then you may like this as HTC has produced a rap video titled “Hold the Crown” featuring rapper Doc G. In the video Doc G is accompanied by a frenetically dancing HTC employee David Bruce and some dancing Samsung Galaxy S 5 and Apple iPhone 6  mascots. The dancing phone mascots are included as HTC takes some shots at Samsung and Apple in the video. HTC chairman Peter Chou even manages to make an appearance in the video.

Nexus 6 listed as ‘coming soon’ on Verizon’s website

Nexus_6_Official_4573

The Google Nexus 6 smartphone has been available for over two months through carriers like T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T. However, the nation’s largest carrier, Verizon Wireless has been somewhat absent from the action. It seems like that could change over the coming weeks, with the smartphone going up on the carrier’s website with a “coming soon” sign.

Unfortunately, there’s still no word on when the smartphone will actually arrive on the carrier’s shelves. But we like to think that the day is not far away now. At this point, users can’t do much apart from signing up to receive updates on the smartphone.

The Nexus 6 is Google’s latest flagship smartphone and its arrival on Verizon will certainly be welcomed by the fans.

The device packs a 5.96 inch QHD display, a 2.7 GHz Snapdragon 805 chipset, a 13-megapixel camera with OIS, a 2-megapixel front camera, 3GB of RAM, 32 or 64GB of internal storage, Android 5.0 Lollipop with the promise of latest updates and a 3,220 mAh battery.

Adidas outs sneaker reservation app as Yeezy season approaches

If you’re into collecting limited-edition sneakers, Adidas has a new app that’ll employ your phone to help nab new shoes. The Adidas Confirmed allows you to reserve new designs as they become available — but It only works in New York City, for now. Push notifications will alert you when the reservation window is open, so you can nail down sizing and the pickup details. This only secures a pair of the rare kicks, and the actual exchange of funds takes place at the pre-determined retail location. The app’s arrival comes before the highly-anticipated release of the next Yeezy shoe designed by Kanye West. Those familiar with the sneaker buzz know Nike’s first two installments were snatched up in seconds, so best of luck grabbing some when the new version is finally revealed.
