Todoist App for Apple Watch Will Bring To-Do Lists to Your Wrist

With the Apple Watch on schedule to ship in April and some developers asked to have apps readied for this month, we are beginning to see a slow trickle of apps surface for the wrist-worn device. Todoist on Monday became the latest software maker to tease their work-in-progress Apple Watch app, sharing a video and screenshots of the upcoming to-do app with MacRumors this morning.

Todoist Apple Watch
Todoist [Direct Link] aims to bring its popular to-do app for iPhone and iPad to the wrist with a simplistic Apple Watch app that will provide task management at a glance. When paired with an iPhone, the app will enable users to view their upcoming tasks and categories, reply to comments, and schedule or mark complete tasks. Todoist tells us that the video below is missing the task filter view, but plans to add the feature soon.

Enric Enrich, a 20-year-old iOS developer at Doist, explains further:

Once inside the main Todoist app, the user can access their Inbox, Projects (and full task lists within each project), Labels, Filters, and a ‘Today’ view showing all tasks for the day, as well as overdue tasks. When you tap on a task to get the detailed view, you will be able to see the task’s associated labels, its due date, its priority level, and you will be able to either “complete” or “postpone” the task directly from the watch. If you don’t want to complete or postpone the task, you use the watch’s microphone to explicitly assign a time/date to the task (this feature is still in development).”

Apple made its WatchKit SDK available alongside the release of iOS 8.2 and Xcode 6.2 beta in November, although developers are limited to an emulator-only development environment until the Apple Watch is released. For now, a third-party Tesla app and concepts of what apps such as Instagram and Uber could look like provide the best teaser of what the future of the wrist holds.

WeatherPro updated with support for Android Wear

WeatherPro Android Wear

MeteoGroup has just updated its official WeatherPro app in the Play Store. Unfortunately, the upgrade doesn’t transport much by way of new functionality, but it does bring support for Android Wear, in addition to a multitude of new bug fixes and stability improvements.

The release notes for the V4.1 update can be seen below:

  • View the weather on your smartwatch! The new watch face gives you the latest WeatherPro data in this convenient way, so you can check the weather whatever you’re doing!
  • Adjustments to the start screen mean you can hide the map preview by closing the app when the map isn’t visible. Just scroll up to have a full overview again.

To install the update, simply open up the Play Store on your device, toggle the hamburger menu by swiping in from the left-hand side of the screen, select ‘My Apps’ and click on ‘WeatherPro’. Next, hit the update button, and the application will instantly start to download and install the upgrade from the Google Play servers. Alternatively, you can scan the QR code below to initiate the procedure.

Amazing things do happen: Verizon Galaxy S 5 now receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop update

Verizon_Samsung_Galaxy_S_5_Lollipop_Update_Screenshots_01

Verizon is notorious for being the slowest for releasing updates, but today they are the fastest, at least in the U.S. The Verizon Galaxy S 5 is receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop right now. The software version is LRX21T.G900VVRU1BNLC and will of course get Material Design themes such as notifications on the lock screen and floating action buttons. TouchWiz has a brighter look and feel with bold colors and fluid animation.

Now this isn’t the first time Verizon pulled off a stunt like this. Remember when Verizon was the first to release the Moto X (1st Gen 2013) Lollipop update? That was even before some Nexus devices.

You can see the full change log by clicking on the source link below and let us know if you received the update.

1 million pre-orders for Moto X 2014 in China received in less than one week

motorola_moto_x_2014_chinese_preorders

In case anyone is wondering why so many smartphone manufacturers are trying to figure out how to get into the smartphone market in China, the Moto X 2014 may provide a good example. Although the device has been available for several months around the globe, Motorola is only now bringing it to China. Last Tuesday, January 27th, the company began to accept pre-orders for the Moto X 2014 and as of February 1st, over 1 million pre-orders had already been received.

This response is not entirely unprecedented in the Chinese market where we see local manufacturers routinely sell out of stock sometimes in mere seconds. For Motorola to come in with a relatively old device and put up numbers like this is a good sign that there may be some hope for the larger, more established market players to challenge some of China’s hot upstart companies like Xiaomi.

FCC plans to fight state laws restricting city-run internet access

FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler

Frustrated that your state won’t let you get city-run broadband, even when it could be faster or cheaper than the privately-run alternatives? The FCC may soon act on its warnings and do something about it. The Washington Post understands that the Commission is exploring a draft proposal that would fight laws curbing municipal internet access in North Carolina and Tennessee. Reportedly, these measures prevent the FCC from using its authority to promote high-speed data deployments in the US — Tennessee, for example, won’t let cities offer broadband beyond specific regions. While the proposal would only target two states, the measure could well represent a launching pad for regulation affecting all 21 states that ban or restrict city-operated services.

The move is bound to face stiff opposition from Congressional Republicans, who both favor private solutions and worry that the FCC may misuse its authority to over-regulate American internet access. It’s not clear that the FCC’s mandate lets it get involved with intrastate politics on this level. However, there’s no doubt that city governments feel they’re getting a raw deal at the moment. They previously petitioned the FCC for help, complaining that the laws do too much to protect established cable and phone companies. It’s certainly no secret that legislation limiting municipal broadband is often written by those companies in an attempt to protect a duopoly or monopoly. In that sense, the FCC might succeed by arguing that it’s leveling the playing field and giving you more say over the kinds of services your city can provide.

Android 5.0 Lollipop has finally made its way onto the platform versions chart, amassing a mere 1.6 percent of all current devices. The February numbers — really for the seven days ending Feb. 2; we’ll get our next set of numbers in another month — mark the first time Lollipop has made it onto the chart. iOS 8.2 beta 5 is now available for developers to download

Apple has just released the fourth beta version of iOS 8.2 for software developers and others who have signed up to participate in the iOS 8 beta program. The over-the-air update should also be available from the Apple Developer Center.

To download the update over the air, simply go to Settings > General > Software Update on a device already taking part in the beta process for iOS 8.2. There’s no word yet on what beta 5 contains, other than bug fixes and improvements. iOS 8.2 includes the WatchKit SDK, which will allow developers to make apps that will work on the upcoming Apple Watch.
