Images of folding Google Glass Enterprise Edition spotted
Pictures of a new, folding Google Glass have surfaced online, revealing a fresh design that makes this edition of the wearable more portable than ever before.
Documents listed on the FCC website show the upcoming wearable in all its glory, and although the gadget looks reasonably similar to previous builds, this version arrives with a hinge so it can be tucked into your pocket. Meanwhile, rumours that the device will be unveiled ‘in a matter of weeks’ seem to be gathering momentum.
Dubbed Enterprise Edition, Google’s shiny gizmo features an Intel Atom processor, improved battery life, better ‘wireless connectivity’ and a larger display prism, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Improved hardware means the Google Glass Enterprise Edition is better equipped to take bumps and hits through regular use. Other changes have been made to position of the power button and a front light now comes on when the camera is in use.
Whilst a gallery of snaps of the new Google Glass is easily accessible online, we’re yet to hear official word from Google about the device.
Writing for The Information last month, reporter Jessica E. Lessin mentioned Google’s Project Aura team is working on ‘a wearable with a screen’ and ‘at least one without’.
She added:
“People tell us there have been three versions of the head-mounted device in development, although the three may be consolidated into two. One version, targeted at enterprises, has a screen. The others, one of which is targeted at “sport” users, doesn’t and relies on audio.”
We’re yet to spot images of the supposed Google-built external battery that connects via magnets, but we’ll keep you updated as the news comes in. Sources speaking to 9to5Google understand that the Google Glass Enterprise Edition will be distributed to Glass for Work companies first.
What are your thoughts on this latest version of Google Glass? We’d love to hear your opinions on the new, portable design.

Samsung Galaxy S5 spotted running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow
A Samsung Galaxy S5 owner received the update to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow yesterday, indicating that the official update could soon be ready to rollout.
The Korean tech giant only recently began offering Android 6.0 Marshmallow beta testing for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in the UK; however, beta testing for the new software isn’t available on any other Samsung device. That said, this update is a little strange, especially since there are no other reports of users getting it.
The owner of the Galaxy S5 did post a video to YouTube to showcase the new firmware:

There is some indication that this update could be fake. The Security Patch version is listed as “1 January 2016,” which shows that this firmware version either isn’t final or isn’t an official firmware version. Google hasn’t even released the January Monthly Security Update for its Nexus devices yet.
That said, it’s best to take all this with a grain of salt for now. However, the Galaxy Note 4 (in Hungary) has begun receiving Marshmallow before its successor. Could Galaxy S5 owners be in for the same treat in the near future?

Samsung’s Exynos 8870 shows up, likely set for other manufacturer usage
Samsung’s Exynos 8890 is bound for their high-end, flagship devices to compete against the other heavy hitters in the market, but some of Samsung’s business still comes from selling their silicone to third-parties instead of keeping everything in house. That’s where the Exynos 8870 comes in.
The 8870 has finally shown up online, and it looks like it’s being made explicitly for other companies to use. That doesn’t mean it’ll be a downgraded processor, however, as early reports pin it close to the Snapdragon 820 in speed, which is nothing to sneeze at. The Meizu Pro 6 is rumored to utilize the processor once it’s finally available.
Unfortunately, there’s not much else to dig into about this upcoming processor. No details on architecture or exact specs, but hopefully Samsung gets things cleared up over the next few months.

More Galaxy S7 cases leak revealing a familiar design
This isn’t the first time Galaxy S7 cases leaked into the wild. However, the cases that surfaced today give us a better idea of what to expect for the device’s design.
According to the leaked cases, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Plus will feature a design similar to the Galaxy S6. It seems that the report on Samsung’s new focus is proving to be accurate, where Samsung will be focusing on improving software over hardware.
The Galaxy S7 is expected to launch in March, with an announcement in February just prior to the Mobile World Congress trade show. There’s a possibility we’ll see up to four variants of the Galaxy S7, including a larger Galaxy S7 Plus, two edge variants and the standard flat version, according to recent leaks. However, a report that came in today denied this rumor.
Hopefully we’ll get some better clarification as we get closer to an official launch.

There won’t be a 5.2-inch Samsung Galaxy S7 edge next year says report
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Despite still struggling to turn a profit, Samsung actually had a pretty good year – its four flagship devices this year were all fantastic, and although they didn’t sell as much as was originally suggested, it’s at least restored the Android community’s faith in the Korean manufacturer. With such success this year, we would have expected Samsung to do the same again this year with two flagships launched at MWC 2016, and another two at IFA 2016 (give or take a month), however a new report has suggested that there will be one less device, specifically that there will be no 5.2-inch Samsung Galaxy S7 edge.
Instead, Samsung will release the standard Galaxy S7 at MWC 2016 in February, and alongside it will be a phablet-sized Galaxy S7 edge. It’s unclear why Samsung would do this, or indeed whether this rumour holds any water, but presumably it has a lot to do with profit margins and the fact a phablet Galaxy S7 edge would attract a higher price. This adds credence to a previous rumour that suggested Samsung would only be releasing one dual curved display device in 2016 – now we just have the agonizing almost-two month wait to find out whether this is all true.
What do you think about there not being a 5.2-inch Samsung Galaxy S7 edge? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Apple Dominates Holiday Sales With Nearly 50% of All New Device Activations
Apple devices accounted for just under half of new mobile device activations during the holiday season, according to a new report released today by mobile analytics firm Flurry. 49.1 percent of all new devices activated were Apple devices, and while that number is slightly down from last year’s 51.3 percent, Apple still dominated all other mobile device companies.
Samsung devices, for example, were responsible for 19.8 percent of all device activations, while Nokia devices made up 2 percent and Xiaomi devices made up 1.5 percent of all device activations.

Larger-screened “phablets” like Apple’s 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus were especially popular during the 2015 holiday season compared to prior years, representing 27 percent of new device activations. That’s up from 4 percent in 2013 and 13 percent in 2014. Full-sized tablets have gone down in popularity, making up only 9 percent of new device activations in 2015.

Medium-sized iPhones like the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 were still the most popular Apple devices over the holiday period at 65 percent, followed by full-sized tablets, phablets, and smaller tablets like the iPad mini. Comparatively, only 35 percent of Android devices activated were medium-sized smartphones, while 50 percent were phablets.

Apple’s phablet was introduced in September 2014, and in less than a year and a half has commanded 12% share of all Apple devices activated during Christmas week. This appears to be coming at the expense of medium phones and small tablets as more users opt for the size in between the iPhone and iPad Mini. You’ll note we did not break out a “Large Tablet” category for the new iPad Pro. These are grouped into “Full-Size Tablets” and represented less than 1% of device activations.
As for app downloads, Christmas day saw customers downloading 2.2x as many apps as the average day in December across multiple platforms including the Apple App Store and Android’s Google Play.
To gather its data, Flurry measured smart device activations and app downloads from the more than 780,000 apps it tracks. Data was collected from December 19 to December 25.

Shoppers loved Amazon’s Fire and Fire TV Stick during the holidays
When you’re selling a tablet for $50, people question the quality of the hardware and software. It wouldn’t be surprising for a tablet that cheap to have an ugly, thick body and laggy software. But Amazon seems to have found an incredible value in the Fire. The $50 price unlocks access to Amazon’s large catalog of content. And it turns out that holiday shopper loved the tablet because Amazon says the Fire was the best-selling, most wished-for, and most gifted item on the company’s site during the holidays.
Amazon’s Fire was the best-selling item on the company’s site during the holidays, fulfilling the wishlist of millions of people. Not far behind were the Echo and Fire TV Stick, two products also developed by Amazon. The Echo ranked very high on the most-wished for and gifted items lists while the Fire TV Stick was the company’s third best-selling item.
Nearly two hundred countries received shipments from Amazon, totally over 200 million items.
Video streaming, too, was a big component for Amazon’s success at the end of 2015. Prime Video streaming doubled compared to last year, largely due to multiple Amazon Originals garnering nominations and awards. Amazon Studios saw Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle, Catastrophe, and The Man in the High Castle earn critical acclaims.
Altogether, Amazon was able to double sales of their own devices. This shows that Amazon is quietly building itself a respectable ecosystem full of content for its own hardware. Between tablets and media players, the company has movies, television shows, music, and games to explore. Perhaps the only form factor Amazon needs to work on is the phone. Because, remember, Amazon’s first attempt at a phone was…. not good. Since the company canned the team behind the phone, we’re probably going to be waiting for a bit to see the Fire Phone’s successor.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who also founded the company, commented on the company’s success during the holidays:
“This was another great holiday season to be a Prime member, and we welcomed three million new members in the week of December alone.
On behalf of Amazon employees around the world, we wish everyone happy holidays and the very best for the coming year.”
Check out the press release below for Amazon’s entire roundup of its holiday performance in 2015.

Here’s Samsung’s first Galaxy A 2016 commercial
Samsung launched its first commercial today for its newly refreshed line of Galaxy A smartphones. The ad is certainly entertaining, showing those silly moments in life we all go through, and says that the Galaxy A smartphones are “exclusively made for you.”
The Korean tech giant debuted the Galaxy A9 in China last week. The company also officially announced the Galaxy A3, A5, and A7, all set for the Chinese region; however, they’ll come to other markets in early 2016.
Samsung’s Galaxy A lineup certainly isn’t a bad batch of smartphones. On the contrary, some of them are actually very nice for being mid-rangers. And for those that aren’t wanting to shell out a ton of money for Samsung’s next flagship, the Galaxy A series might just be worth looking at.
