Facebook’s Instant Articles arrive on Android
You no longer need an iPhone to read Facebook’s Instant Articles on the move. As of today, anyone in the world with an Android phone (and the Facebook app, of course) can read those quick-to-load stories. The experience will be very familiar if you’ve tried it before, but it promises to bring Instant Articles to a considerably wider audience — particularly in developing countries where low-cost phones and slow internet access are still par for the course.
Facebook might need the boost. While legions of publishers (over 350) signed up for the feature after realizing that they were losing views through their slower-loading sites, they haven’t been making a lot of money thanks to the reduced ad revenue. The social network is tweaking its formula to sustain interest, but it may need to count on sheer reader numbers to make up the difference in the short run.

Hillary Clinton’s private server had two ‘top secret’ emails
Those concerns that Hillary Clinton’s private email server had classified intel? They’re apparently well-founded. Sources for Fox News and Politico maintain that two of the messages sent to Clinton were labeled as “top secret” when fresh. One of them was eventually reduced to “secret,” but critics say that’s beside the point: they’re worried that the email wasn’t subject to tougher government security standards, and could have been compromised.
Whether or not the messages are a legal problem for Clinton and her presidential election campaign are another matter. The FBI is still investigating whether or not the politician violated the law by running her own server instead of funneling everything through official channels. Any findings of illegality may well derail Clinton’s campaign, but a declaration of innocence could easily thwart further attacks.

Wikipedia continues to chronicle human history in real time
Wikipedia is more than an immense series of articles about events, people and things. It’s a living breathing organism that grows, adjusts and feeds on the ebb and flow of history. From tragedy to sporting events, it chronicles nearly everything. As a real-time document of history, the enormity of the site is staggering. If something happens anywhere (either on or off planet) a new article is submitted. Often in multiple languages and entirely by volunteers. There are currently over 38 million articles on the site being edited by over 70,000 contributors.
But like anything edited by humans, it’s sometimes wrong and other times used for nefarious purposes including getting backstage stage at a show. But, in terms of shared knowledge, it’s tough to find a better resource.
https://player.vimeo.com/video/148645590
Its year-in-review video is meant to highlight those edits and the events of 2015. While using Wikipedia as a credible source is probably a bad idea, it’s a incredibly important stepping stone towards trying to understand a subject in an always changing world.

Take $100 off Samsung’s latest smartphones, get a free year of Netflix from T-Mobile
T-Mobile has been giving its customers some incredible gifts this holiday season. And for its final Un-carrier Unwrapped holiday promotion, T-Mobile will be taking $100 off Samsung’s latest smartphones for new and existing customers. These include the Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+. In addition to this hefty discount, the carrier will also throw in a full year of Netflix with the purchase of one of these smartphones.
What makes this deal even more great is that you can stream Netflix for free on T-Mobile’s network thanks to the recently introduced Binge On program. Binge On lets you stream Hulu, HBO Go, HBO Now, Sling TV, Showtime and many more services for free on the carrier’s 4G LTE network as long as you’re a Simple Choice customer. This is similar to the carrier’s Music Freedom program, which allows users to stream unlimited music from popular services like Spotify, Google Play Music and more without using up precious mobile data.
This promotion begins Friday, December 18th in T-Mobile stores and online and ends Wednesday, December 23rd, with the Netflix promotion running until December 31st.

If you aren’t in the market for a Samsung smartphone, the Un-carrier has a few other promotions you may want to take advantage of. The carrier announced that it would give an extra $200 bill credit to Sprint customers who switch for a limited time, only a few days after giving the gift of unlimited data to all its Simple Choice postpaid customers. And if you happen to switch to T-Mobile from Verizon, you’ll score yourself a free year of Hulu.

Report: Hangouts to lose SMS integration, gain notable new features in next big update
Google Hangouts has received tons of useful features over the past couple years, but one of the most popular ones might soon be removed. According to a new rumor from Phandroid, Hangouts will lose the ability to send and receive SMS and MMS messages in its next big update.
This feature made its way to Google’s messaging platform back in October 2013, and to be honest, it was pretty buggy when it first launched. Since then most of the major bugs have been squashed, making the overall experience quite pleasant for most users out there. At this time it’s not clear as to why Google has plans to remove this feature, though it wouldn’t surprise us if the company wanted to simplify the messaging experience on Android. After all, Google surprisingly released a new SMS application called Messenger back in 2014 with the launch of the Nexus 6, leaving users confused as to which messaging app they should use.
According to the report, Google employees are currently testing this unreleased build of Hangouts. It will supposedly have a prompt urging users to try out the Google Messenger app. After all, Messenger is pretty customizable, and in my experience, a much more bug-free application. The report also states that Google Voice users will still be able to message within Hangouts. Only carrier SMS messaging will get the axe.

It’s not all bad news, though. This new version of Hangouts will reportedly also gain a few new features that have been requested by users for quite some time. For starters, Hangouts will supposedly get quick reply functionality from notifications in the new update. This feature has been available on Google Messenger for some time, and it just rolled out to Hangouts for iOS not too long ago. The new update will also bring with it the ability to place a shortcut to a specific Hangouts conversation on your home screen. It’s not the most groundbreaking new feature, but it’s still nice to have.
Since this is just a rumor for now, we need to remember to take this news with a grain of salt. It’s certainly not the best news we’ve heard in the past, though if you think about it, there’s nothing wrong with Google wanting to simplify the messaging experience on Android. So with all that said, does this rumor have you upset? Be sure to speak up in the comment section below.
Gorilla Glass to be used for windshields by Ford
Gorilla Glass is a practically unbreakable material that is becoming more and more of a favorite for smartphone screens. Now it looks like Corning, the company that creates Gorilla Glass, is expanding their product to vehicles. The company has signed a deal with Ford, and the two have been developing a Gorilla Glass windshield for the Ford GT in 2016.

The material being used for this windshield is technically a Gorilla Glass hybrid that consists of three layers of alternating materials. Thinner and lighter than regular windshields, the hybrid seems to provide equal or greater protection while weighing twelve pounds less than its traditional counterpart. Ford demonstrated the material’s durability by firing solid ice spheres at normal windshield material and then at the Gorilla Glass hybrid. As you can see in the video below, the conventional windshield material fractures readily, but the new hybrid material makes it through without a scratch.
This could be good news for automobile and smartphone fans alike. Although this feature will initially only be available on high-end vehicles, we can expect it to eventually make its way to more middle-market rides. If this becomes industry standard in the automobile world, we might see a drop in the cost of Gorilla Glass on the scale needed for smartphone production. Hypothetically, this could knife a bit of the price off Gorilla Glass smartphones across the board, supposing the manufacturers are willing to pass their savings on to the consumer.

Huawei Watch getting a female-friendly makeover, Gen 2 in 2016
The Huawei Watch made waves in 2015 by bringing to the Android Wear landscape some of the classiest aesthetics we’ve seen. The looks came with a high price for a smartwatch, but the power under the hood was enough to justify the pricetag for many consumers. However, the Huawei Watch’s large face and relative thickness (11mm) made the device a little bit too clunky for members of the population with slender wrists. Women as a whole were less likely to choose the Huawei Watch, if not for its size then for the fact that it’s overall design makes it look as though it would smell like cologne and aftershave. Now Huawei seems to be trying to reclaim this lost demographic by unleashing a new set of variants specifically designed to look more feminine.
Although we don’t have any details on the new variants, we expect that these changes will be entirely aesthetic, leaving the under-the-hood specs untouched. Gold seems pretty hot right now as well, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see a luxury model plated in everyone’s favorite shiny metal. We’ll know more once we hit CES in January, where Huawei is expected to showcase their new line.
However, the astute buyer may wish to refrain from jumping on one of these new smartwatches. Huawei is also rumored to be developing a second generation Huawei Watch to be released in mid-to-late 2016. Our bone-casters and scrying mages say that the Gen 2 model may be cellular, seeing as the functionality is now supported by Android Wear.
