AT&T’s NumberSync service heads to the Samsung Gear S2

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

AT&T recently started rolling out a free service called NumberSync to a variety of devices. In the simplest form, it lets your one primary number ring across tablets, phones and smartwatches that are connected to your account. It works with any HD Voice enabled device that is in a HD Voice location. Which includes all of Samsung’s latest devices, the HTC One A9 and a handful of others including iOS devices. Today AT&T announced its first non Apple wearable to make the cut for NumberSync with the $99.99, on contract, Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch.

Existing customers can get NumberSync on Gear S2 through a software update. New customers can enjoy NumberSync upon initial setup.

NumberSync lets you send and receive texts, as well as make and receive calls, from your smartwatch using the same mobile number that your family, friends and colleagues already recognize.

NumberSync operates on the AT&T wireless network and is not dependent on a Bluetooth connection to your smartphone. You can even use it when your smartphone is off or disconnected from the network.

With NumberSync on your Gear S2, you will be able to not stress over leaving your phone at home and still get all your texts, calls and voicemails. It is pretty cool, and it is free.

Your phone is a lightsaber in Google’s desktop browser game

Since real lightsabers don’t exist (yet), Google and the studios behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens are offering the next-best thing: A program that turns your smartphone into a lightsaber, which then takes out bad guys on your computer screen. Lightsaber Escape is live now — open it in your desktop browser and then punch in the unique URL on your phone (or vice versa), and you’re good to go. Your phone becomes a lightsaber handle and, as you move it around, the actual glowing sword moves on the desktop.

Lightsaber Escape is a Chrome Experiment that Google made in conjunction with Lucasfilm and Star Wars visual-effects studio Industrial Light & Magic. It uses WebGL for the 3D graphics, plus WebRTC and WebSocket for the real-time communication between your phone and desktop. It may be a Chrome Experiment, but this one works in other browsers, too.

If Chrome and Safari can get along, maybe there’s hope for the First Order and the Resistance, after all.

Samsung pay gains support for an additional 19 Visa and MasterCard issuers

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

The battle to be the reigning supreme in mobile payments is well underway this year with the likes of Apple Pay, Android Pay and Samsung Pay. I even caught a story where WalMart is working on a mobile payment system. It is a little insane and can be a bit overwhelming at times. Samsung has the best promotions running right now for setting up Samsung Pay with an additional $50 Best Buy gift card just for registering your device with a card, even if it is limited to the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Note 5 still. Gotta love new tech and the need for the finger print sensor. Anywho, the big drawback for many on Samsung Pay has been the lack of support from various banks and card issuers. While it isn’t alleviated just yet, Samsung has announced a big jump in its support with 19 new banking services being added to the mix today.

“More Samsung users will be able to use Samsung Pay to shop this holiday season, thanks to new support from MasterCard and Visa issuers, including our valued partners at PNC Bank and KeyBank,” said Injong Rhee, EVP of Samsung Electronics, Global Head of Samsung Pay. “With the widest acceptance of any mobile payment service, Samsung Pay continues to expand its reach and provide its customers unparalleled choice, flexibility and access.”

The included new card issuing institutions includes a number of Credit Unions like Utah Community Credit Union, Navy Federal Credit Union, Central Florida Educators Federal Credit Union and Bayport Credit Union. Feel free to check the whole list of supported banks and card issuers at Samsung.com to see if your bank has been added to the mix yet. An even more detailed list can be located through the source link below.

Pebble Debuts New ‘Pebble Health’ Fitness Tracking Feature

Pebble today announced new software updates for its line of Pebble smart watches, bringing the timeline feature to Pebble Classic and Steel and introducing a new Pebble Health feature for the Pebble Time lineup.

According to Pebble, Pebble Health was created through a collaboration with researchers at Stanford University. Pebble Health is able to track daily activity and automatically detect sleep phases, displaying stats and insights right on the wrist. Pebble Health brings the Pebble Time in line with the Apple Watch and other activity trackers with a first-party solution that eliminates the need for third-party fitness tracking apps on the device.

pebblehealthfeature

Since you are your best motivator, Pebble Health focuses on personal success. Instead of striving for an arbitrary step count, your daily progress is measured against your own personal average. At night, Pebble Health tracks how long and well you sleep, helping you make better sleep decisions. Weekly graphs of both step and sleep stats make it easy to see trends over time.

Pebble Health is compatible with Apple HealthKit and in the future, Pebble plans to launch a Pebble Health API that will allow developers to build apps and watchfaces around the new feature.

Pebble Time, Time Steel, and Time Round owners will get access to Pebble Health after updating the Pebble smartphone app and the watch to the latest version of the software. Pebble Health is not available on earlier Pebble watches.

Samsung Pay continues expansion with 19 new partners

samsung_pay_official_TA

If the fact that a provider is expanding their network is an indication that they may finally be building some critical mass in the digital payments market, then Samsung appears to be on their way to moving things into the mainstream. Today Samsung announced that they were adding 19 new issuers to their “partnership ecosystem” that can process Samsung Pay. Perhaps the two biggest names on the list include PNC VISA credit and debit cards and KeyBank MasterCard credit and debit cards.
