CyanogenMod 13 nightlies now available for Android One devices
Android One users definitely enjoy the pure Google experience these affordable handsets bring to the table, but some of us still need a certain level of customization and extra features. This is why the CyanogenMod team has been kind enough to offer Android One device support. And if you are a fan of being at the bleeding edge of technology, today is your lucky day, as CyanogenMod 13 nightlies have just become available!

All the files are available from CyanogenMod’s repository. All you have to do is grab the files from there and install them into your phone. Of course, that is only after you unlock your bootloader and install a custom recovery. Just keep in mind all of this tinkering can harm your device and/or void your warranty, so do your research before proceeding. If something bad shall happen to your phone, it’s only your responsibility and you might be left in the dark.

And dealing with nightlies happens to be a bit more delicate, as these are experimental versions of the software. Progress is updated… nightly, bringing forth the latest changes to the code. This means it’s more than likely that you will encounter bugs and issues from time to time. If you would rather not deal with that (as much), wait for the stable release.

Baidu’s autonomous car completes full driverless testing
Baidu’s working hard to catch up to Google’s autonomous car tech, and just recently, its modified BMW 3 series has completed a rigorous, fully autonomous testing on mixed roads. The Chinese Google’s autonomous car traveled an almost 19-mile route that began at its headquarters in Beijing without the intervention of a human driver. Wang Jing, its Autonomous Driving Unit’s SVP, boasted: “Fully autonomous driving under mixed road conditions is universally challenging, with complexity further heightened by Beijing’s road conditions and unpredictable driver behavior.” The vehicle made right/left/U-turns, passed other cars and merged into traffic on its own while going at a top speed of 62 mph.
Baidu’s autonomous car is loaded with the company’s “AutoBrain” that brings object recognition and environment perception technology onboard to detect other vehicles, obstacle and road lanes. This AutoBrain system is also loaded with the company’s highly automated driving (HAD) maps, which records 3D road data (to within a few centimeters of accuracy) that the vehicle can access when positioning itself. Baidu says its autonomous driving initiative is the first in the Asian country to accomplish a fully driverless test under mixed-road conditions, but it’s clear that it still has a ways to go before it can release a car people can buy.

Slow down time with PlayStation 4’s video editor update
Sony has an early gift for you this holiday season: more tools for its PlayStation 4 video editing app, Sharefactory. The electronics giant says that the ability to manipulate time has been among the most requested features and that’s where Time Bender comes in. With it, you can slow nature’s most effective killer down or implement time lapse to your gameplay footage. What’s more, Sony’s also increasing the number of clips that you can add to your masterpiece; the new limit’s 50 for video and 12 for music.
Oh, and Sony’s working on editing contests of sorts as well, dubbed Sharefactory Events. The first one’s in the works right now, and you can expect details of what game developers and publishers will expect for the inaugural event — in terms of creation requirements — fairly soon.
Sony’s also adding a few other bits and bobs including new scene transitions, filters, music tracks and the ability to layer stickers and text. The outfit says so far folks have crafted some 18.9 million videos so far with over 5.1 million downloads of the app itself. So, carry the one… that’s something like three videos per download in around seven months time. Remember though, when there are some 30 million PS4s that ratio is a little less impressive.

AT&T branded HTC One A9 receiving security, camera and battery update

The HTC One A9
The update brings in camera and battery improvements to the device as well as bulletin security updates. It weighs in at 444MB’s and does require a Wi-Fi connection to get downloaded. If you haven’t seen the update land in your One A9’s notification panel yet, head to Home > AT&T software update > check for updates > OK. At least, that is what AT&T says. It could be Settings > About > Software Updates > Check Now. As that is the typical process on most devices. When all is said and done you should be on software version 1.27.502.5.

Pocket gets more personal with better feed recommendations based on friends and interests
Pocket has released an update that makes thing a little more personal and a little easier to find content you’re interested in. The new version allows you to follow interesting users that post and share content you care about, as well as the option to share and recommend your own personal favorites.
The recommended feed builds off of the feature base that Pocket rolled out back in August and works by letting you set up who you “follow” from your social media accounts and contacts. This obviously won’t help much if you aren’t friends with or follow avid Pocket users, but if you do, the feed will display things they’ve recommended. It doesn’t do this chronologically, which is a design choice, but instead by sorting things based on what it thinks you’ll like. Pocket monitors what you save and read, so it should be able to give a pretty personalized recommendation list here.
On the flip side of this, it also means you can recommend and share what you’re reading and watching in Pocket so that anyone who follows you can view it. It brings a new social aspect to the app, and includes an option to highlight and comment on particular sections of text for that extra personal touch. All of these recommendations show up on your Pocket profile for anyone to view.

LG G5 rumored specifications surface with a possible release date
A tipster named Zealer posted some rumored specifications for the upcoming LG G5 flagship on Weibo earlier today. However, the post was taken down soon after. Luckily, Tech Grapple got a shot of it.
According to Zealer’s Weibo post, the LG G5 will sport a 5.6-inch QHD display, which is slightly larger than this year’s LG G4. Other rumored specs include a Snapdragon 820 processor, an Adreno 530 GPU, a 21MP rear-facing camera, and an 8MP front-facing shooter for video chats and selfies. The camera seems to be the biggest enhancement here, which will replace the 16MP rear-facing camera on the LG G4. LG may also include the tinker display like the one on the LG V10 as well as the same dual front-facing camera setup.
Most Interestingly, the rumor indicates a possible Iris scanner for scanning one’s eyes. This will be the first of its kind if LG can ready the technology in time for production. One can also expect 3GB or 4GB or RAM to ensure that multitasking is a breeze.
The LG G5 may release as early as February of 2016, which is right when Samsung plans to unleash their next Galaxy flagship. If this is the case, it’ll be quite the battle time come launch.

Boost Mobile matches Virgin Mobile and T-Mobile with unlimited music streaming from select services
While Virgin Mobile recently announced unlimited music streaming from certain services, and T-Mobile has offered the feature for a while, Boost Mobile has decided to join the party and delicately skirt around a net neutrality issue by offering their own form of unlimited music streaming.
Considering Boost and Virgin are both owned by Sprint, you could’ve probably guessed that the music services that are part of Boost’s offer are identical to Virgin Mobile. Pandora, iHeart Radio, Slacker, 8tracks, and Samsung’s own Milk Music qualify for the offer and won’t count towards your monthly data cap, but Boost Mobile is taking suggestions for new additions.

Sling TV bringing local Latino content to its channel lineup
In an effort to become the de facto internet television streaming service, Sling TV has a key new addition to its channel lineup. Thanks to a partnership with Univision and UniMas, Sling TV will now be offering local Latino content to subscribers. This includes some area-restricted content, like local news shows, that are pretty tough to find online.
This is the first time Sling has gotten into the business of providing local content, and although it’ll only be in Spanish right now, there’s a pretty good chance we’ll start to see this come to other networks and content in the future.

Japan’s Akatsuki probe successfully makes it into Venus’ orbit
After five years of orbiting the sun, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s (JAXA’s) Akatsuki probe has finally reached the destination it was gunning for from the start. JAXA has confirmed that the spacecraft has been successfully inserted into Venus’ orbit, flying in the same direction as the planet’s rotation. Akatsuki’s first attempt in 2010 ended in failure, because its engines fired for less than three minutes, which wasn’t enought to inject it into the Morning and Evening star’s orbit. It had to be placed into hibernation mode to prolong its lifespan until JAXA had the chance to make another attempt a few days ago.
JAXA tested the probe’s cameras when it confirmed that it’s in good health and where it should be — you can even see one of the photos of Venus it took below. It will continue testing Akatsuki’s other instruments and cameras in the next few months before it officially begins taking photos of the planet and its clouds and gathering data in April 2016.
