Way is the smart skin sensor nobody needs

For a lot of people, devoting their life in a quest to look forever young is probably a bit too much effort, which is why a device like Way exists. Way is a semi-wearable sensor that monitors the moisture levels in your skin and reports that information to your smartphone. In addition, the donut-shaped gizmo sniffs out the local humidity and UV levels, giving you up-to-the-minute information on looking after your skin.
Dropbox is killing its Carousel and Mailbox apps
Dropbox expanded its product lineup significantly last year with the launch of its Carousel photo management product and its acquisition of the formerly-excellent Mailbox email app that originally launched for the iPhone. Unfortunately, both products are dead: the company just announced it is putting both Carousel and Mailbox out to pasture soon because it is focusing more on the collaboration and sharing features (like the new Paper app) that we’ve heard so much about in recent months. Mailbox will shut down on February 26th of next year, while Carousel will follow a few months later on March 31st.

Twitter’s 2015 was defined by activism and its own tough luck
Twitter has posted its year in review, and it’s clear that some things are truer than ever in the social sphere… including for Twitter itself. More often than not, the 2015 trends were a continuation of what you saw in 2014: activism dominated tweets even more than in the past thanks to the Black Lives Matter, LGBT equality and pro-refugee movements. Straight-up politics mattered as well given crucial elections in countries like Canada, India and the UK.

Winter is coming. And with it also comes the need to show the loved ones in your life just how much you care for them by spending, spending, spending on gifts. Trouble is, there are just so many options to choose from. What you really need is someone, some outside force to hold your credit card-holding hand. And boy, do we have some suggestions for you. Happy Holidays! You’re very welcome.
We’ve all got that one “cultured” friend, family member or lover, what with their finely tuned tastes, who makes shopping for gifts somewhat of a chore. Hopefully, this round of selections will ease that burden and get their upturned noses to turn down in appreciation.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and larger-sized Galaxy S7 Plus leak in renders for the first time
Up until this point, there have been no visual leaks of the Galaxy S7. Today, multiple renders have leaked of the upcoming Galaxy S7 flagship and a Galaxy S7 Plus handset.
This leak comes from a case and accessory manufacturer called ITSKINS. Sometimes measurements and renders are sent out to such manufacturers ahead of the public release to ensure there are accessories to go around on launch day. Surprisingly, there’s no edge model listed, only a standard flat Galaxy S7 and a larger-sized Galaxy S7 Plus. The smaller standard Galaxy S7 measures 143.37 x 70.8 x 6.94 mm, which is nearly the same as its predecessor, the Galaxy S6. Nearly all design elements have been kept the same including the placement of the heart rate sensor, microphone, speaker, power button, volume controls, home button, and same old protruding camera lens. The only differences spotted are a less rounded home button and the location of the SIM card tray, which has moved from the top of the device to the side
The larger of the two, presumably the Galaxy S7 Plus, measures 163.32 x 82.01 x 7.82mm, which is indeed huge. We’re likely looking at somewhere in the 5.8-inch to 6.0-inch range. You can check out the leaked renders down below. Does the same design bother you? Let us know what you think.

Google will be consolidating Google Ventures into a single global investment fund
Last year, Google opened up a new arm of Google Ventures in London with an initial $100 million to invest in startups in Europe. Now, less than two years later, Google wants to fold that European branch back into the rest of Google Ventures, which will allow the company to handle investing as one single international effort, instead of multiple efforts based on location.
While Google Ventures has been extremely busy since it started, in Europe only a total of six investments have been made since being opened. That pales in comparison to the 300+ investments that Google has made otherwise, and shows that there might not be enough interest to warrant a totally independent arm of GV in Europe.
The office in London won’t be closed down, but it will share funds with the rest of Google Ventures starting next January.

Several Samsung executives may be involved in insider stock trading
Several Samsung executives are suspected of insider trading, according to the latest investigation of nine officials in the company. The executives work for several major Samsung affiliate companies, and reportedly used insider information to buy up stocks in Cheil Industries before Cheil announced their plans to buy Samsung C&T Corp., which obviously sent the company’s stock way up.
There’s no official ruling just yet, as the investigation is in its preliminary stages and could take up a to a year to finish.
Definitely not a good PR situation for Samsung to deal with.

Dropbox shutting down Mailbox and Carousel
Sources are reporting that Dropbox is shutting down two services that it has been trying to get off the ground over the past couple years. Both the Mailbox service and the Carousel photo sharing service will be shuttered in early 2016 as Dropbox is apparently making moves to focus more heavily on its cloud-based file-sharing service.
According to an unnamed source, the two products are being eliminated because “growth has not been as significant as expected.” The information available points to Carousel closing down as of March 31st with Dropbox helping users move any photos stored there back to the main Dropbox service. Mailbox will shutdown on February 26th and Dropbox appears to be ready to help clients identify other email clients.
Mailbox was acquired by Dropbox as recently as 2013 and was part of move by Dropbox to expand their footprint of available services. However, competition has been fierce, especially from Google which has been stepping up their efforts with changes to their main Gmail platform as well as the introduction of Inbox. Likewise, Google has been making some pretty significant improvements to its Photos service to make it more of a photo-sharing service. This appears to be forcing Dropbox to make moves to focus more on their primary business and how to keep it healthy, including a stronger push into the enterprise market.
