Here are the videos you don’t want to miss this week – December 5, 2015

nexus 5x second opinion aa (5 of 12)

Sometimes the most controversial smartphones require a second opinion to get the whole story across, and that’s definitely a theme we saw this week. Josh and Lanh both recently posted their full reviews of the BlackBerry Priv and Nexus 5X, and now the two have published their additional thoughts on these two controversial devices.

This week we also managed to bring you our full reviews of the Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Pro and Marshall London, and we got a chance to unbox a new budget-friendly Chinese smartphone, the Vivo X6. We’ve also rounded up some of the best Android phones you can buy right now, as well as a big list of apps and games that just recently made their way to the Google Play Store.

Our video team has been very hard at work this week. So without any further ado, here are all the Android-related videos you don’t want to miss.

Google’s latest budget-friendly Nexus device has a great camera, a familiar build quality and a low price point, but is there anything else you should know before purchasing one for yourself? Lanh has already posted his full review of the Nexus 5X, but Josh has some more to say. Don’t miss Josh’s second opinion on the new Nexus 5X.

‘Final Fantasy VII’ is out today on PlayStation 4

The original Final Fantasy VII is available today on PlayStation 4, Sony announced during its PlayStation Experience keynote. This isn’t the remake that Sony teased at E3 earlier this year, but it should tide fans over until that massive project launches.

Draft climate change deal lowers greenhouse gases by 2050

Earth just took a tentative step toward a new, comprehensive plan for improving the environment. Representatives from 195 countries have approved a draft UN climate change agreement that will ask all participants to lower their carbon dioxide emissions. There are still many, many details left to resolve ahead of a final deal (ideally signed next week), but the ultimate goal is to have countries reduce their greenhouse gas levels by 2050, and to eliminate emissions completely between 2060 and 2080.

Here’s where to watch Sony’s PlayStation Experience keynote

Sony’s big PlayStation Experience event kicks off in San Francisco in less than an hour — but if you’re not in attendance, it’ll still be easy to follow along. The whole event will be streamed on the PlayStation website or over on the PlayStation Twitch channel (you can find the video stream below!). We’re not sure what exactly Sony will be announcing just yet, but we’re expecting to hear a lot about PlayStation VR and hopefully some new games — it’s a two-hour keynote, so it seems safe to say Sony has a few big announcements up its sleeve. We’ll also be reporting straight from the keynote and the show floor all day long, so stay tuned for all the news from PlayStation Experience today.

TAG Heuer smartwatch production to be increased due to high demand

tag heuer connected

Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer announced that it will be increasing the production of its TAG Heuer Connected smartwatch, in order to meet the anticipated (heavy) demand. Despite carrying a luxurious $1,500 price tag, making it the most expensive Android Wear based smartwatch, retailers and subsidiaries have collectively received requests for over 100,000 watches.

The Swiss company’s first smartwatch is modelled after the classic Carrera model, and was initially being referred to as the Carrera Wearable 01. The device is powered by an Intel processor, which for the first time, is seen powering a device from Google’s Android Wear platform.

TAGHeuerConnectedGroup

Bloomberg reports that TAG Heuer has upped the production of the Connected watch from 1,200 to 2,000 units a week. Furthermore, the report says that online sale of the smartwatch might be suspended until May or June since the company prioritises retail stores above e-commerce portals. This will also ensure that physical stores have enough stock of the Tag Heuer Connected so as to be able to meet the anticipated demand.

CEO Jean-Claude Biver, other than confirming the increase in production due to anticipated demand, also confirmed that the TAG Heuer Connected collection will expand to offer different watches in a variety of styles and made using various materials. However, Biver did add that new members in the collection are scheduled to arrive only by late 2016, at best, or early 2017.

TAG Heuer launched the $1,500 Connected watch in early November. For more details, check out our previous coverage here.

I Tried Holiday Shopping on Facebook and Twitter and Got Nowhere
Kurt Wagner, Recode

Facebook and Twitter may be testing options for buying products from ads and sponsored posts, but don’t try to take care of your holiday list that way. As Recode’s Kurt Wagner discovered, those buy buttons are pretty much non-existent unless you’re in the test group. In fact, he didn’t even stumble across a misplaced option to purchase in the News Feed.

Verizon’s Wi-Fi Calling Coming to Galaxy S6 on Monday, iPhone ‘Early Next Year’

Verizon yesterday announced that it will begin rolling out support for Wi-Fi Calling next week, starting on Monday with Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. iPhone users will need to wait a bit longer, with an update enabling the feature expected “early next year.”

verizonlogo

Wi-Fi Calling will initially be available on the Samsung Galaxy S 6 and Samsung Galaxy S 6 Edge and will be rolled out as a software update in phases. Additional Android and iOS devices will receive Wi-Fi Calling capabilities via future software updates expected early next year.

Wi-Fi Calling allows phone calls to be automatically placed over Wi-Fi connections in areas where cellular service is poor, seamlessly transitioning between cellular and Wi-Fi as needed.

Sprint and T-Mobile have supported the feature for some time, and AT&T launched its support in early October. AT&T made waves by claiming Sprint and T-Mobile have been offering the feature illegally, due to Federal Communications Commission requirements for supporting a teletypewriter (TTY) feature for deaf and hard-of-hearing users.

AT&T received its waiver from the FCC just days later, and Verizon followed with its own request, with the FCC approving it several weeks ago. Sprint and T-Mobile have not received waivers from the FCC, but continue to operate Wi-Fi Calling and believe no waiver is required.
