Poll: Which OEM would you most like to see make a Windows Phone?
After the news came out earlier regarding Huawei’s continued refusal to make new Windows Phones, the Windows Central community began discussing other smartphone makers who they’d prefer to see make one. While the Windows Phone portfolio has seen new additions in recent times such as BLU and Yezz, along with repeat performances – in some areas – from Samsung and HTC, it’s Microsoft’s own Lumia brand which dominates the landscape.
But there are a lot more companies out there making a lot more phones. So, if you could choose any one of them at all, which OEM would you most like to see make a Windows Phone?
Google confirms Nexus 6 supply constraints
It’s hardly been a secret that the Motorola-manufactured Nexus 6 has been a hard phone to get ahold of since its release. It’s been MIA for many moon on Google Play, and the 64-gigabyte model is pretty much a White Whale. Today on its Q4 earnings call, Google Chief Financial Officer Patrick Pichette confirmed the scarcity.
“We also faced a few real challenges as well” for the quarter, Pichette said. “While the Nexus 6 was very well received as a new phone, we had real issues and were unable to secure sufficient inventory to meet the demand that we had forecasted.” [Ed note: Pichette mistakenly said “Nexus 7″ on the call and clarified things at the start of the Q&A.]
So it wasn’t just you. The Nexus 6 is a rare bird.

Phone Insider app for Windows 10 Preview updated, renamed to Windows Insider
Windows 10 for phones is on the way, at least in preview form. Tonight, Microsoft began laying more groundwork for the Technical Preview by updating their Phone Insider app. Originally found on the Store a few weeks ago, the Insider program will let people download early builds of Windows 10 to their phones before general release.
The major change to the app is the name to Windows Insider, matching the name of the desktop preview program. Besides the previous domain account support, there is also the ability to now log in the Insider service using your Microsoft Account.
