Google and the NFL finally partner, highlight clips and more coming to YouTube
The NFL can’t ignore Google and YouTube’s power anymore. A deal has been reached that brings highlight clips to YouTube in time for the Super Bowl and beyond. It’s not just YouTube as Google search results will provide more detailed information on games, which include kickoff times as well as the networks airing the games.
Google will promote the NFL on YouTube and other places, but they will also share revenue from ads that appear with the highlight clips and search results with the NFL.
Now before you go thinking that full games will come to YouTube, that’s not in the cards for now. The NFL wants fans to watch the games on the TV networks since they have paid a ton of money for those rights. Google will steer fans to both the networks and NFL.com, but in-game clips will be something fans will enjoy on YouTube starting as early as this week’s Super Bowl.
Now the only question I have is if the score in the above image will really be 0 – 0 with 10:45 left in the first quarter?

Super-thin Kevlar layers promise safer, slimmer batteries
Scientists have spent a lot of time trying to lengthen battery life, but safety and thickness matter, too. Just ask Boeing about that first problem — its 787 Dreamliner was grounded for months thanks to battery fires. However, a group of University of Michigan researchers may have found a way to make lithium-ion energy packs that are safer and slimmer at the same time. The team has developed Kevlar-based, nano-sized membranes that insulate the electrodes in a battery while still allowing lithium ions to pass through and create a proper circuit. The extra-thin layers should not only reduce the chances of short circuiting, but allow for more energy in a given space. You could get away with thinner batteries in smartwatches and other devices without giving up battery life… or worrying that your device will spontaneously combust, for that matter.
The best part? Unlike a lot of battery experiments, there’s a roadmap in place for real, tangible products. The researchers have formed their own company, Elegus Technologies, and expect to mass-produce Kevlar-equipped lithium cells in the fourth quarter of 2016. It’s going to be a while after that before there’s something you can buy (Elegus is still in talks with other companies), but don’t be surprised if your 2017 mobile gear is at once more portable and more dependable.

Chances are you have played Cut the Rope or at least have seen someone with the game. It is one of the games from Zeptolab. The developer has a history with the puzzle genre, but the next game to leave the studio will a departure from that. The upcoming game is King of Thieves and it brings together tower defense, platformer, and multiplayer elements. Not many details are disclosed, if any, but the trailer makes it clear that the design/graphics match that of Cut the Rope.

Saygus V2 will begin pre-orders on January 29th, to be less than $600

One of the more interesting Android phones to come out of CES this year was the dual microSD Saygus V2. Reporting early as a 320GB phone, we refined our expectations when we clarified just 64GB of internal storage, with two external card slots to total up the remaining.
On the show floor, Saygus was not able to provide an expected shipping schedule or pricing for the V2, and we are still a little in the dark even now for both.
Pre-registrations for the V2 have been up for a while, but Saygus now says that sign-ups will be shut down on January 29th, that’s this coming Thursday, at 11:00am Pacific Time. Shortly thereafter, look for a Twitter post on their official account @Saygus, marking the beginning of pre-orders for the device.

In terms of pricing, Saygus hasn’t spilled the beans just yet, but early announcements and indicators placed the phone at sub-$600. We still expect that to be true, but will have to wait for further word to confirm.
Looking at the specs sheet, the Saygus V2 is looking to bring top notch hardware, with a bit of a trick up its sleeve, for a reasonable price. It may be a little premature to suggest that the OnePlus One will be dethroned as the leading ‘flagship killer,’ or that the Saygus V2 will lead the pack on the next round of flagships, but we are liking what we are seeing so far.
If you are interested in more info on the device, or to pre-register today, head on over to the Saygus V2 product page. If you’d rather hold off until pre-orders open, you can head to the pre-order page now as well.
Will you be ordering up a Saygus V2, or will you wait to see what new flagship devices are headed our way at MWC before you make any decisions?
Your brain can be conned into believing you committed a crime
How much do you trust your brain? We’re asking, because a new study published in Psychological Science provides scientific evidence that it’s not hard to manipulate people’s memories — even to make them believe they’ve committed a crime. Researchers from the University of Bedfordshire and University of British Columbia chose 60 test subjects with no previous charges and any police contact from 11 to 14-years-old. They then divided them into two groups: the first group’s interviewer convinced them they’ve committed assault or theft, while the second group’s made them believe they suffered a traumatizing event, such as being attacked and injured or losing a large amount of money.
During the study’s three-stage interviews, the facilitators mixed the participants’ real memories (as told by their families and/or guardians) with “clues” pertaining to the false ones. Subjects were told that their families had corroborated those “facts” and they could use visualization techniques to “recall” those faux-suppressed memories. The result? Around 71 percent of the group convinced that they’ve once committed a crime and 77 percent of the group manipulated to recall fake tragic events developed true false memories. That means they seriously believed those recollections were true and could recall more than 10 details of the false events.
This is just an early formal study on how certain tactics can make people admit to crimes they’ve never committed or which have never even occurred. The researchers expect to see more studies on the same subject to determine if this has an effect on the legal system, because it’s just not right sending people to prison just because humans have overly imaginative brains.
