Verizon Prepaid increased up to 1.5GB of 4G LTE data

Verizon has silently increased the available data on their ALLSET prepaid plan. The result, believe it or not, makes Verizon one of the better bang for the buck prepaid carriers around.
Verizon introduced their ALLSET prepaid plans a while back, improving the original 3G connectivity up to 4G LTE services last July. Originally clocking in at 500MB of data. The recent bump brings your $45 contract-free experience up to 1GB of 4G LTE data.

While $45 is about par for the course for 1GB of data these days, Verizon’s unlimited talk and text package will score you an additional 500MB if you sign up for Auto Pay. If that is not enough for your needs, Data add on packages run you $10 for 1GB and $20 for 3GB. That makes for a 2.5GB plan at just $55/month, or 4.5GB of 4G LTE for a respectable $65/month.
If you’ve been avoiding Big Red for their outrageous pricing, now may be the time to give them a second glance. Head on over to the Prepaid section of the Verizon website for more information.
What do you say, is Verizon’s data increase enough to entice you over to their prepaid plans?

Sharp announces the Aquos Mini and a high-end flip phone
Sharp has taken the wraps off of their first two devices for 2015, one of which is a high-end compact device, and the other is, surprisingly, a flagship flip phone.
The Aquos Mini is one of Sharp’s most impressive devices, featuring the razor thin bezels that their Aquos phones have come to be known for. The phone sports a 4.5-inch, 1080p screen with an extremely narrow body, and the display features Sharp’s IGZO technology which will supposedly let the device last for a full two to three days on its 2120 mAh battery.
Aside from the screen, you’ll find some very capable hardware on the Aquos Mini. There’s a Snapdragon 801 processor and a 13 megapixel rear camera, so while it’s not going to blow you away in 2015, it’s still an extremely powerful device, especially for one with a relatively smaller screen.
Sharp also announced the Aquos K flip phone, which is a fairly high end device in its category. The phone is thin and sports a 13 megapixel camera that’s capable of shooting 1080p video, and you’ll even get a full web browser and Google Search on it. Pretty fancy for such a basic device.
No word on price or availability yet, but keep an eye out over the next few weeks if you’re interested.

Samsung Galaxy S6 variant will have a double-edged display
The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge was a wonderfully innovative product. This wasn’t to say that it was perfect – the lack of optimization during general use was disappointing – but the mere fact that Samsung tried something new, and that it was interesting, was intriguing enough. It looks like Samsung is going to continue in […]

Press Release:
New York, NY (January 19, 2014)
Magzter, the largest and fastest-growing digital magazine store and newsstand in the world, with more than 24 million users globally, today announced the launch of Magzter Gold, an “all-you-can-read” subscription model that gives users unlimited access to the largest library of digital magazines across mobile, tablet and web for $9.99 a month. At launch, Magzter Gold features over 2,000 titles, including Maxim, ESPN The Magazine, and Fast Company, as well as many top magazines from different geographies, including the UK, Singapore, and India, with many more planned for 2015.
“It’s still early days for digital magazine reading,” said Girish Ramdas, CEO & Co-Founder of Magzter. “Barriers to entry, like paying for and managing multiple magazine subscriptions, have stalled true adoption. With Magzter Gold, we’re delivering a better experience, giving readers instant access to the largest collection of digital magazines anywhere, on any device, and for one low monthly price.”
In conjunction with the launch of Magzter Gold, which spans all content categories, from many of the most popular titles to more niche publications on specific interest areas and hobbies, Magzter has also unveiled a reimagined user interface to better support content discovery. A key feature of the new interface is the ability to algorithmically tailor the reading experience for individual users based on their interests and interactions with in-app content. The interface also allows users to download multiple titles simultaneously and also five times faster than before, reducing “speed-to-read” times and making content discovery easier than ever.
“With thousands of titles available, content discovery is a huge benefit of the digital reading experience on Magzter,” said Vijay Radhakrishnan, President & Co-Founder of Magzter. “To take full advantage of that, we’ve built a leading-edge recommendation engine to power the back-end of our new user interface. With it, we can identify the reading habits of our users and then recommend titles based on engagement, all in real-time. It’s the most intuitive interface in our category.”
In addition to the $9.99 a month subscription option, Magzter is also offering Magzter Gold Lite, available for $4.99 a month. Magzter Gold Lite gives users unlimited access to any five of the available 2,000 titles per month.
“We’re mindful that some users have a very select group of magazines that they like to read each month,” added Ramdas. “For them, unlimited access – including the ability to read all back issues – to a few of their favorite titles at just half the price is all they’re really looking for in a digital magazine subscription service.”
“Keeping in line with our commitment to provide greater accessibility across digital media, Magzter Gold Lite users are free to change what magazines they have access to at the end of each month, so they’re never locked into their choices,” said Radhakrishnan.
Magzter Gold is the first in a series of product and service launches set for 2015 that the company believes will redefine the digital reading experience. In addition to magazine content, Magzter will also add digital books to its platform later this year.
“The ‘all-you-can-read’ model is a natural progression for digital reading,” Radhakrishnan added. “Movies and music have already adapted to it and we’re bringing that to the magazine experience. But this is only the first step—we plan on expanding into other areas to make digital reading even more convenient and accessible for millions of existing and potential new users worldwide.”
Magzter is FREE to download across Apple iOS, Android (Google Play), Windows 8, the web, Amazon App Store, and Kindle Fire. It is truly the #1 choice for magazine readers the world over.

Apple China Posts New Caligraphy Video to Commemorate Upcoming Hangzhou Store [Mac Blog]
Apple has posted a new video on its official Chinese retail website showing renowned calligrapher Wang Dongling creating a mural for the company’s upcoming West Lake store in Hangzhou. UK spies collected journalists’ email as part of a test
Want to know why many people don’t like it when governments call for an end to encrypted communication? Here’s why. A new round of Edward Snowden leaks at The Guardian has revealed that the intelligence agents at Britain’s GCHQ collected email from major news outlets (including the BBC, Le Monde, the New York Times and the Washington Post) in 2008 while testing a system that stripped out data irrelevant to searches. While it’s not clear that the agency singled out the press during the test, there’s no indication that it got rid of the messages, either.
There’s little doubt that GCHQ is wary of the media. Additional leaks show that its surveillance teams see many journalists (especially defense-oriented ones) as a “potential threat” — their desire to learn secrets makes them more dangerous to information security than hackers, according to official rankings. Also, it’s now evident that the UK’s Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) lets government branches get phone billing records for people who aren’t subject to warrants, including reporters investigating politicians’ shady conduct. GCHQ won’t comment beyond its usual insistence that its activities are “authorised, necessary and proportionate,” but that isn’t entirely reassuring when the agency tends to treat the press as its enemy.
