Chrome_Meteorite_Beauty-display

Samson, an industry leader in professional audio solutions and wireless microphones, has announced a slew of new products in Las Vegas this week. Among these products includes their new Samson Meteorite microphone, a USB powered portable microphone focused on capturing crystal-clear quality audio recording on your computer. The Meteorite works with Skype, Facetime, and other video and voice chat services. Samson says this microphone will dominate your laptop or tablets built-in mic, as it uses a studio-quality 14mm capsule and dedicated audio-conversion path.

The company has also announced a sibling microphone called the Go Mic Direct as seen above, which provides even more portable use, as the microphone has a built-in USB plug to attached right to your laptop or electronic. The Go Mic Direct has noise-cancelling software built into it which is suitable for noisy environments. Both new microphones will be available for $39.99, and you can see a full review of both of them here in a week.

Full Samson description can be seen here:

Samson‘s Meteorite is the universal solution for capturing high-quality recordings on your computer. Meteorite is ideal for podcasting, creating audio for YouTube videos and recording music on your favorite software or apps. This sleek microphone will also vastly improve your ability to communicate with friends, family and business associates on programs like Skype, FaceTime and other VoIP software.

Meteorite presents an immediate improvement over your computer or tablet’s internal microphone, bypassing their standard mic capsules and noisy soundcards in favor of the Meteorite’s studio-quality 14mm capsule, cardiod pickup pattern and dedicated audio conversion path. Meteorite’s larger condenser diaphragm provides a smooth, flat frequency response to capture the natural warmth and dynamics of your voice. And the mics 16-bit, 44.1/48kHz resolution ensures the audio recorded sounds as authentic as hearing it live. Use the Meteorite once, and you’ll never look back.”

“Samson‘s Go Mic Direct is the ideal portable audio solution for Skype, FaceTime, voice recognition software, as well as recording audio for YouTube, lectures, podcasts and webinars. The Go Mic Direct also features the Samson Sound Deck Noise Cancellation Software (Mac OS X/Windows), allowing you to capture pristine, accurate vocal communications and recordings in any environment. With Go Mic Direct, you’ll never want to use your computer’s internal microphone again.

The Go Mic Direct’s custom, ultra-compact design features a built-in USB connector that allows the mic to be plugged directly into your computer without blocking surrounding ports. In addition, the connector is retractable for maximum portability and safe transport when not in use. Compatible with both Mac OS X and Windows, Go Mic Direct offers convenient plug-and-play operation with no driver installation required. Its also works with iPads and iPhones (4S and later) using Apple’s Lightning USB Camera Adapter or Camera Connection Kit (30-pin), making it a great tool for mobile podcasting, popular speech-to-text software and field recording.”

LG’s new mystery smartwatch actually runs webOS

LG's new mystery smartwatch actually runs webOS

CES 2015 has been an insane ride, but the craziest news out of the show wasn't even an announcement: the LG smartwatch that Audi was using to control their autonomous car runs webOS. Yes. webOS. On a watch. In a week that brought us the news that TCL is resurrecting the Palm brand and the latest webOS TV's from LG, we also get webOS expanding to a new platform: the wrist.

Yes, at CES 2015, we're writing about Kodak, Palm, and webOS. It's like a tech episode of the Twilight Zone. The reveal of the smartwatch came as a surprise, with an Audi executive revealing the watch as being from LG and using it briefly in his demo, but not saying much more about it. The assumption was that it was running Android Wear, but our friends at Android Central decided to dig in to the watch and found that it was in fact not Android Wear.

Google's imposed strict restrictions on the customizations that can be made to Android Wear, so the more we looked at it the more curious we became. It was clearly not Android Wear, and then we ended up deep in the settings and saw something amazing: webOS Version Open webOS.

It. Runs. webOS.

LG's teased webOS smartwatches before, but never made a public statement on where they would next expand webOS beyond their TVs.

Most interesting is that the watch has a number of LG's custom apps built in, including apps for calendar, dialer, messages, email, and more. It even sports NFC and a cellular radio. Yes. This thing is a ready-to-go webOS portable.

We hate to be speculative (that's a lie, we love it), but everything here indicates that LG is working hard to make a device that's thoroughly capable of operating independently, and has the makings of a proper modern webOS smartphone.

In a world where Samsung's ported their Tizen OS from smartwatches to smart televisions, LG is bringing their webOS smart TV OS to portable devices. It's a mad mad world, and we're excited to find out even more about what LG has in store for webOS.

[Deal] eBay offering the refurbished HTC One M8 for $350

HTC-One-M8_Gunmetal_Silver_Gold1

We all love deals, even though we had quite a lot of them over the past couple of months. This new one pertains to one of the best looking flagships of 2014, the HTC One M8.

If you turn your focus towards eBay, a refurbished version of this HTC flagship can be had for just $349.99. The price was originally $370, but has now been reduced to just $350, making it an even better proposition for interested buyers. Customers get to pick from Amber Gold, Glacial Silver and Gunmetal Grey color variants.

Refurbished usually means that the device has been returned to pristine working condition by the dealer or the manufacturer, so you have nothing to worry about as far as functionality is concerned. Make sure you give the listing a gander if you’re interested in snatching up an unlocked One M8 for cheap.

Exclusive: The hottest smartwatch of CES isn’t running Android Wear — it’s Open webOS

We bring you the inside look at the most mysterious timepiece of CES 2015

LG and Audi’s smartwatch collaboration is the most desirable wearable of CES 2015, and while the carmaker says it’s just a prototype, the device offers a tantalizing glimpse of future LG wearables. Or at worst an agonizing look at a beautiful watch we’d love to own.

We tracked down the Audi/LG watch — still officially nameless, by the way — in Las Vegas today, and we can exclusively reveal that it’s not running Android Wear as originally believed. In fact, it’s packing completely different software based on LG’s Open webOS.

Future handsets from Samsung will offer support for enhanced themes

SamsungThemeIt’s no secret that Samsung has been toying with the idea of offering the ability for users of its smartphones the ability to theme their devices. Much like that of third party launchers, users would be able to set a general scheme complete with themed icons for TouchWiz. It looks like the company will be making theming a priority in future devices with Samsung’s next Galaxy flagship, the S6 leading the charge.

It appears that the theming function, first introduced in the Galaxy A Series devices will be called theme center (or a variation there of) and will include a few additional items such as the ability to change system sounds, fonts, and events. We’re not sure what it is exactly, but it appears that the events category could be holiday related, allowing users to, for example, change their theme for specific days like Easter or Halloween.

But wait, there’s more! Upcoming devices will feature a theme store — as brought to light by the image above showing off the theme store icon — that will allow users to pick up new themes. We’re not sure if there will be an option allowing third-party themes but given Samsung’s pro-developer stance, it could very well be the case.

Of course, we’re a few months away from seeing Galaxy S 6, and knowing for sure if these rumors will pan out, but even more customization for users can’t hurt Samsung, who’s currently struggling with moving phones.

Samsung Fingers may actually be an upcoming product

samsung_smart_glove_uspto_filing_013014

In April, Samsung humorously announced the fictional Fingers smart glove. While it was definitely funny to think about at the time, Samsung seems to be serious about a similar device. In January of last year, the company filed to patent a smart glove. The title for the application is “FINGER MOTION RECOGNITION GLOVE USING CONDUCTIVE MATERIALS AND METHOD THEREOF.” Unsurprisingly, the device is loaded with sensors. It is unlikely that this device will debut anytime soon; however, the patent filing shows that Samsung was not laughing too much when it teased Fingers.

Fitbit’s CEO explains why his company isn’t making a smartwatch

Fitbit's CEO explains why his company isn't making a smartwatch

International CES may as well be called the International Smartwatch Show. There are so many wearables on display here, I’ve had trouble keeping track of them all. And yet, there’s one company that in theory should be making a smartwatch, but isn’t. That would be Fitbit, whose name is about as synonymous with “fitness tracker” as “Kleenex” is with tissues. Though the company recently released the Surge, a GPS-enabled sports band, CEO and founder James Park insists he’ll never build a smartwatch, per se. He also won’t be coating his fitness trackers in tacky Swarovski crystals, but really, anyone would good sense should know not to do that. Check out the video below to see my full interview with Mr. Park and to hear what’s next for the company (hint: it involves a lot of data scientists).
