TalkTalk has acquired both Blinkbox, the movie streaming and rental business, and Tesco Broadband from the UK supermarket. The cross-platform on-demand service that Blinkbox offers customers in the UK will put TalkTalk in a strengthened position against competitors, as well as bolster its own range of content.
The company will integrate Tesco’s old services into its own TV offering with immediate effect. As noted above, TalkTalk also acquired the Tesco broadband and voice business, adding significant numbers (75,000 internet and 20,000 respectively) to the already-established user base.

The Android application for WordPress has been rebuilt from the ground up. Now, the app’s user interface is based on Material Design for Android 5.0 Lollipop. The entire color scheme of the app is very blue and WordPress debuted new icons. The button to compose a new post (seen above) is identical to what Gmail, Google+, and other stock apps have. Furthermore, WordPress has a new grid layout for the Media section. This means that it is much easier to see all of the saved media on a site. And comments can be auto-completed when typing the name of another user on the site.
Here is what WordPress says is included with the version 3.5 update:

It’s been a long time coming, but Tesco has finally offloaded its loss-making streaming service Blinkbox. At the end of the last year, it looked increasingly likely that TalkTalk has positioned itself as the favourite to buy the service, and today the quad-play provider confirmed a deal has been reached. According to TalkTalk, Blinkbox’s integration with its existing TV business will “begin immediately,” with the benefits of the merger expected to show themselves by the end of the year.
Blinkbox wasn’t the only thing on TalkTalk’s shopping list, though. As part of its agreement with Tesco, the company has also picked up the supermarket’s broadband and voice services, bagging an estimated 75,000 internet and 20,000 voice households in the process. It all stands to strengthen TalkTalk’s position in the broadband and TV market, after Sky, Virgin and BT began consolidating their services in recent months. Of course, BT is still negotiating the £12.5 billion buyout of EE, which appears to have motivated rivals to strengthen their own hand in the face of increased competition.

On January 6th at CES, ARCHOS, a well-known manufacturer of Android devices, and Freshub, a connected-kitchen Israeli startup, launched the ARCHOS Kitchen Screen. The end-to-end service is a kitchen-tailored version of the ARCHOS Smart Home Tablet.
The ARCHOS Kitchen Screen allows consumers to be able to shop for grocery products. They can do this by adding them to a digital shopping cart by either waving the desired item in front of the screen or using voice commands. The included touchscreen also suggests custom coupons, recipes, and alternatives to wanted items that are unavailable. You can even stream music, set up security cameras, install a digital picture frame, or get clock and weather information.
Loic Poirier, in relation to the unveiling, stated, “As leaders in the Connected Objects field, we are proud to work with Freshub to connect the kitchen. Our Smart Home vision now helps people to keep their kitchens filled up thanks to the world’s first connected device offering an instant grocery retail link. This game-changing connectivity will considerably alter the way people shop and will shape the future retailing experience.”
Currently, there is no word yet on the specs, prices, or release date.

August, the maker of the Smart Lock, announced “Connect” today at CES. The tech is used to connect to the Wi-Fi in the house and connect to the door via Bluetooth to give yo the ability to unlock the door for anyone remotely as long as you have some form of internet connection. The “Connect” will also alert you about the condition of your lock, so if the lock is forcibly opened or broken, you will know before you get home to an empty house.
The uses for “Connect” are many. Imagine being on vacation and having a neighbor take your dog out twice a day while you are gone. Simply unlock the door whenever your neighbor wants to come in and lock it back when he leaves and you’ve skipped the risks that come with loaning out an easily-stolen key.
“Connect” will ship in the middle of next month for $50, and the August Smart Lock has been shipping for a few months for $250.

Are you one of the many PayPal users in the world? If so, might now be able to access your PayPal account through their app on your BlackBerry 10 smartphone. I say might because while the app is now available in BlackBerry World for BlackBerry 10 smartphones, it’s rather limited for now.
Jide, a company founded by three ex-Googlers, showed off its first device at CES 2015 — the Remix Ultra Tablet. The tablet — which strongly resembles the Microsoft Surface Pro line — has a magnetically connected keyboard and a kickstand what can be extended to 40 and 80 degrees.
If you’ve wanted to try the preview of Office for Android tablets during its brief history, you’ve had to request to join a Google+ group. That’s not the hardest thing to do, but do you really want to participate in a special club (and in some cases, sign up for Google+) just to try some productivity apps a little early? As of now, you don’t have to. Microsoft has posted the previews of Excel, PowerPoint and Word on Google Play, so you can download them like you would any other app. The only major requirements are that your slate runs at least Android 4.4 KitKat and that you’re comfortable with less-than-polished software. You may not want to finish an important report with these releases, then, but it’s now easy to experiment with the new Office suite before it’s completely ready.
