Nokia always puts on a show at Mobile World Congress, but this particular event may be a little… different. See, if all the rumors are true, we should expect to see a grand total of zero Windows Phones and one Android device introduced. Perhaps we’ll see a Bizarro version of Stephen Elop get on stage as well, so we’re crossing our fingers. Regardless of what happens, this is definitely going to be a liveblog for the ages, so stay locked in here at 2:30AM ET (11:30PM PT, 8:30AM CET) for all of our coverage!
And we’re in, getting set up now!
Glad to be here — we’re all running off a couple hours of sleep, so this promises to be a fun event. Fortunately Nokia tends to put on a good show at Mobile World Congress, and this particular event aims to be one of the more… interesting ones we’ve attended in the past few years.
If you recall, 2011 was the year Nokia announced its transition from Symbian to Windows Phone, 2012 was the 808 PureView (41MP camera) and 2013 was… a couple Lumia phones.
By the way, we’ve got a crew of three here. I’ll be handling the text, Richard Lai will be on photos, and Steve Dent is going to be on-hand to help out. Steve, can you get us some drinks?
The Nokia booth is always at the same spot at the Fira Gran Via, and it’s one of the largest at the show, and the stage comprises not even half of it. It’s always an impressive sight.
It’s standing room only here, with roughly 300 or so members of the press in attendance. As for us, we’re hanging out in the second row.
