Android KitKat for Sprint HTC One is available for manual update from Sprint

Android KitKat for Sprint HTC OneJust yesterday, the President of HTC America, Jason Mackenzie, came out to apologize saying that the carrier versions of Android KitKat destined for the HTC One would not be making it before the end of January as originally planned due to carrier certification. How quickly things chance as today, Sprint has said on its community site that Android KitKat for Sprint HTC One is now available via “customer initiated request”.

What this actually means is for everyone who wants the update with a Sprint HTC One to manually update their phones via the Settings Menu. If you’re unsure of how to do this, Sprint has put together a nice graphic to show you exactly how (see here). If you’re simply happy to wait till you phone updates automatically, you’ll only have to wait till February 11th when Sprint says the update will roll-out to all devices.

If you are able to successfully update your phone via this method, we’d love to hear from you in the comments. Unfortunately, there has been no word yet from the other carriers, but we’re willing to bet it will likely be over the next day or so when we do.

[VIDEO] Talking all things games with The Trese Brothers and Techaeris

the trese brothersToday, we were lucky enough to join Techaeris’ Justin Jelinek to chat with The Trese Brothers, a two-brother game developer team who have created some wonderfully enjoyable games like Star Trader and Templar Assault. Having recently launched their latest game, Heroes of Steel, on both Android and iOS, we thought we’d take the opportunity to delve more into what motivates The Trese Brothers and where they’re going to go. Check out our Hangouts On Air with them earlier today:

So there you have it: clearly some very motivated and creative gentlemen, who we want to thank for their time and fantastic answers to our questions. We wish them the best of luck for the remainder of their Kickstarter formalities and can’t want to hear more about Star Traders 2 when the time comes.

Crashlands will be the Butterscotch Shenanigans next outing in Gaming

crashlandsWe have a definite soft spot for game developer Butterscotch Shenanigans. It’s definitely something to do with their absurdist tendencies when they create their games, which is on full display in their best known games, TowelFight 2 and Quadropus Rampage. But when we heard that Sam Coster, one half of the Butterscotch brotherly duo, had been diagnosed with cancer, we were shocked and concerned and immediately sent our well wishes to Sam. Being the people that they are, however, the Coster brothers continued to develop games despite the toll that the cancer treatments have taken on Sam, and have recently come out with the name of their next endeavour, which will be called Crashlands.

Crashlands is primarily the result of a conversation between the brothers when they were developing Extreme Slothcycling, their most recent project. According to Sam, the conversation went like this: “Seth. I don’t want Extreme Slothcycling to be the last game I make before I die.” As morbid as that sounds, the Butterscotch Shenanigans are committed to releasing Crashlands on Android by their June deadline, which will include “survival, crafting, creature management, [and] strategic combat”.

We’re really excited about Crashlands, as we are for all of Butterscotch’s games, and we wish Sam and his brother the best over the next few months.

‘Twitter Commerce’ leak puts a buy button next to retweet and favorite

Your Twitter feed is probably already overflowing with breaking news, sponsored ads and play-by-play reactions of the latest Game of Thrones, but a new element may soon grace your timeline: a buy button. Documents found on Fancy.com’s website propose a method of selling goods directly to Twitter followers by embedding miniature product pages directly in Tweets. The images, uncovered by Re/Code, show expandable, sponsored tweets that feature a sales blurb and product image underlined by a price tag and “Buy with Fancy” button. The mockup also demonstrates that purchases and package tracking could be handled completely within Twitter’s own app.

Fancy’s images call the setup ‘Twitter Commerce,’ but it’s unclear if the documents are merely a proposal to the microblogging service or something that’s actually in production. A Re/Code source, however, claims that Twitter is actively working with several companies to build a working commerce solution. We’d crack a joke about Facebook Gifts, but let’s wait until we hear something official, shall we?

Alleged Red Nexus 5 leaked by @evleaks, hitting Play Store on February 4th

Google’s flagship is without a doubt one of the hottest handsets in Android websites and forums. Though, over the years Google made it clear to us that the Nexus line is really limited when it comes to colors. Until the Nexus 4, the handset was solely available in two color flavors, black and white. Nothing too exciting.

Over the last few days though, numerous sources reportedly suggest that Google has a new Nexus 5 version currently in the works. It was just five days ago that we reported about a red Nexus 5 spotted in retail packaging. Ferrari red, to be precise.

Our source this time is the famous and pretty much always accurate mobile whistle-blower @evleaks. This time though he shared the image via Google+, albeit Twitter.

According to the image, this new version of the Nexus 5 will ostensibly feature a red backplate, red bezels, and the interior of the front facing camera, guess what, it will be dressed in red as well. Based on a recent leaked Sprint internal document, the device will be hitting the Play Store this Tuesday.

From my perspective, a red Nexus 5 is certainly on its way. Though, I’d suggest you holding a grain of salt about the launch date rumor.

What do you people think? Will the red Nexus 5 be launched as soon as this Tuesday? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Red Nexus 5 leaked again, now a little more official than before

If you’ve been keeping tabs on mobile news lately, you’d know that there are more than enough rumors regarding the Nexus 5 in a bright red color.

Courtesy of popular leaker, evleaks, the Nexus 5 in red shows up in a pretty believable press render. Though it isn’t official yet, evleaks is very seldomly wrong – especially given the recent leaks from other sources.

Also, an alleged Sprint memo surfaced yesterday, revealing the possible release date of the red variant – Feburary 4th. With more and more rumors beginning to spread about this device, we’d say that just might become a reality.
