Microsoft Launches ‘Office 365 Personal’ Plan for One Mac and One iPad at $69/Year
Microsoft today started selling its Office 365 Personal subscription, a less expensive version of Office 365 that targets individual users. The cloud-based subscription service provides access to online versions of Microsoft’s Office productivity suite, online storage in OneDrive and a block of Skype calling minutes.
The new personal option allows subscribers to connect one PC or Mac desktop computer and one tablet, including the iPad, to the online service. It will cost $69 per year or $6.99 per month. Customers who require more connections can sign up for the Office 365 Home plan, which is geared towards families with support for up to five desktops and five tablets.
The new Office 365 Personal plan is available for purchase at Office365.com. It also is available at Microsoft Stores and through Microsoft’s online and retail partners. Microsoft also offers Office 365 business plans, which are priced by the number of users and are designed for real-time, online collaboration using the Office 365 suite.
Etsy Wholesale to connect sellers with Nordstrom, West Elm and more this summer
Etsy’s Wholesale efforts have been in beta since last year, seeking to introduce artisans with retailers out to nab up unique wares. Now, the online marketplace announced that the program will launch in August, and that it will collect a connection fee of sorts for its match-making efforts. Etsy stands to pocket a 3.5 percent transaction fee on wholesale orders with each seller having to pony up a one-time joining fee of $100. While that may sound like an deterrent, the percentage is actually on par with funds the site collects from each sale. The company sees the Wholesale initiative as a way to allow small businesses that have succeeded with its platform continue to grow — with a hand from shops like Nordstrom, West Elm and Indigo. Of course, now that Etsy allows the hiring of outside staff and manufacturing, this gives sellers a channel to offload stockpiles of jewelry, reclaimed furniture and more.

Here’s Amazon’s phone: six cameras and a 4.7-inch screen
Rumors of an Amazon-made phone are nothing new, but today the rumors enter reality more firmly: what you see above is what BGR claims is the Amazon’s first phone. “Whoa, that’s super ugly!” you might be saying. Cool it, that’s just an enclosure around the device itself preventing prying eyes (like our own) from seeing the actual design. The good news is we can still learn a few things about the device without the enclosure removed: five cameras up front (reportedly a sixth out back) and a trio of buttons along the left side handle power and volume. The screen is reportedly of the 4.7-inch variety — which lines up with previous rumors — and puts Amazon’s first phone on the same scale as Motorola’s Moto X (among others).
Before we move on, we should probably address that whole six cameras thing, huh? Well, the rear one is a standard phone camera for taking photos, and apparently one of the five on the front is also just a standard camera. The four other face cameras, though, are apparently for something especially unique: the phone’s 3D interface. All those cameras reportedly enable the phone to track the position of your head and where you’re looking, thus enabling glasses-free 3D from any angle. BGR says the four face cams are low-power infrared sensors.
So, what’s powering that effect besides cameras? 2GB of RAM and an unnamed Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, apparently. Rather than going 1080p, the handset is also said to push 720p (also similar to the Moto X).
If that’s not enough, the report also says that a less flashy, more affordable version will arrive this year as well. That’s two Amazon phones potentially leaked without Amazon acknowledging or even teasing either. Don’t expect shock on our faces when an ambiguous event invite shows up in the next few weeks.

BBC iPlayer app now supports downloads on nearly all Android devices
The BBC has allowed Android users to download programmes since September last year, but that functionality was only extended to 11 of the most popular Android devices at the time. While its slowly expanded support over the past seven months, the Beeb today welcomed the majority of Android iPlayer users to the party, updating the app to allow downloads on devices running Ice Cream Sandwich and above. To put it in perspective: 96 percent of current BBC iPlayer users now have a smartphone or tablet capable of storing programmes for offline playback.
The update comes as part of the BBC’s Mobile Compatibility Programme, which aims to extend the same features to all Android users regardless of their device. While you should be able to enjoy downloaded content error free, the BBC warns users that the odd issue may surface, but that’s only because it can’t test all of the “five thousand different phone, phablet and tablet models able to install the iPlayer Android app.”

Apple CarPlay coming to Pioneer’s in-dash systems this summer
Apple CarPlay in an aftermarket dash system? You bet! And you may not even need to spend a dime. Pioneer’s NEX line of five in-dash head units, priced from $700 to a whopping $1,400, will score CarPlay compatibility through a firmware update in early summer. NEX owners with an iPhone 5, 5c or 5s will be able to use Apple Maps for navigation, listen to music and other iTunes content, and tap Siri to make phone calls and send text messages. Pioneer’s devices already in stores will be able to take advantage, so there’s no need to wait for CarPlay integration to go live before picking one up.

Office 365 Personal now available for $7 per month
Office 365 Personal, a leaner version of Microsoft’s subscription-based productivity suite, is now available for $70 per year or $7 per month. The new package lets you use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher and Access on one Mac or Windows computer and one tablet. You also get smartphone access with Android, iOS and Windows Phone devices, online versions of Office, 27GB of online storage and 60 Skype minutes each month. Power users can access Office from up to five computers by opting for Office 365 Home instead, which will run you $100 per year or $10 per month.

Amazon’s Smartphone with 3D Capabilities Revealed in New Photos
Recent reports suggest Amazon may be preparing a smartphone with 3D capabilities to compete with Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy handsets. New details from BGR and TechCrunch shed some light on this 3D feature and possibly provide us with our first look at the phone, which is partially hidden inside a case.
According to BGR, multiple sources claim the phone will include a 4.7-inch display with 720p resolution, which is lower than the 1080p HD display in Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S5 and less than the projected 1600×900 display that Apple may use in the iPhone 6. Under the hood, the Amazon phone is predicted to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 2GB of RAM.
The biggest differentiator between Amazon’s smartphone and those from Apple and Samsung is a 3D feature, which allegedly uses up to 4 cameras and additional sensors embedded in the phone. Amazon may use the 3D technology to showcase its own products, allowing users to explore a three-dimensional product images, claims BGR.
Another smart use for the phone’s 3D effects is across Amazon’s various stores, such as its book store, music store and the main Amazon digital market. By shifting the position of the phone, users are able to see three-dimensional product images at different angles to reveal surfaces that cannot be seen in 2D photos.
The 3D capability of the phone may also provide a parallax effect, similar to that in iOS 7. Amazon’s implementation in its FireOS may be greatly exaggerated as compared to Apple’s version and supposedly is limited to only a few key gestures, reports TechCrunch.
According to our source, the flagship device, Duke, is powered by a heavily modified version of Android. It’s FireOS with extreme 3D parallax effects, similar to those found on iOS but greatly exaggerated. The screen itself is not 3D, but rather simulates a 3D effect.
By way of four corner-mounted, front-facing cameras, a user can tilt the smartphone left or right to browse and access hidden side panels. We’re told that the 3D feature is very limited out of the box. At launch, there will be just a couple of added gestures built into the operating system that utilize this system.
Rumors point to a possible announcement in the coming months with a target launch date of late September, but this may be subject to change. Amazon allegedly is showcasing the device to key developers as it tries to build third-party support for the platform before it is launched.
Google announces KitKat, other new feature for Glass
Google on Monday confirmed that Android 4.4 KitKat will be arriving to Google Glass later this week. What’s more, the wearable technology will pick up a handful of other features, including photos organized into bundles, photo replies in Hangouts, and the ability to directly send feedback. What’s more, voice commands are also enhanced and sorted by frequency and recency.
