ZTE’s incoming Grand S II could be first smartphone with 4GB RAM
ZTE’s Grand S II already looks like a pretty fine handset with its brushed metal back and Snapdragon 800/801 CPU, as we saw at its launch earlier this year. But judging by a leak at Chinese regulator Tenaa, it could take it up another notch with 4GB of RAM — a first for any smartphone and double the original spec. That’s the maximum possible RAM on a 32-bit ARM chip, and 4GB modules were only recently teased by Samsung and SK Hynix. We wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up as a high-end option for the Grand S II, in the same way that ZTE’s Nubia X6 is available in a 3GB RAM variant. Take all this with a grain of salt for now, but remember that until we see a 64-bit CPU and Android OS, 4GB will be as good as it gets.

Search engines allowed to block political websites in the name of ‘freedom of speech’
When a search engine is hauled before a judge, it’s often because somebody, somewhere, objects to a particular search result. However, in the case of eight New Yorkers who tried (and failed) to sue China’s biggest search engine, Baidu, it was the exact opposite: The plaintiffs were pro-democracy activists who accused Baidu of de-listing their articles and videos for political reasons. They argued that this censorship breached their civil and equal protection rights, because American users of Baidu were unfairly blocked from accessing their work. After three years of wrangling, a US District Court judge has now dismissed the case on the basis that no owner of a search engine should be forced to display specific content, because this would breach the owner’s right to freedom of speech.
In the words of US District Court Judge Jesse Furman:
“The First Amendment protects Baidu’s right to advocate for systems of government other than democracy (in China or elsewhere) just as surely as it protects plaintiffs’ rights to advocate for democracy.”
The judge further argued that all search engines should be immune from most kinds of civil liability and government regulation, and should instead be treated more like news outlets, which are free to exercise their own “editorial judgment.” Meanwhile, the plaintiff’s lawyer has promised to appeal, claiming it’s a “paradox” to “allow the suppression of free speech, in the name of free speech.”

Nikon to replace some defective ‘dust spot’ D600s with brand new cameras
After offering up several solutions to a sensor spotting problem on its full-frame D600 DSLR — with mixed success — Nikon has now said that it will replace any defective cameras that can’t be repaired. When reports of the oil and dust spots first cropped up, Nikon suggested that photographers clean the sensors themselves or send them for cleaning under warranty. However, when some users found that the shutter was ejecting difficult-to-clean oil on the sensor, it began to offer free shutter mechanism replacements. Recently, some owners also reported that they were sent brand new Nikon D600s and even newer D610′s instead of a repair. Nikon has now admitted as much in a letter of apology, and said it will continue to repair or replace the model as needed, even out of warranty. It may also explain why it brought the very similar D610 to market so quickly.

Roku CEO Calls Apple TV a ‘Money Loser’, Says Product is ‘Essentially’ an Accessory for iPad
Speaking at the inaugural Code/Media event held by technology website Re/code (via CNET), Roku CEO and founder Anthony Wood called the Apple TV “a money loser” for Apple, liking the product to an accessory for the iPad and questioning why Apple would want to sell more units of the device. Wood’s remarks come as Apple is said to be preparing a new version of the Apple TV that will integrate with Comcast’s network to enable a streaming TV service for users.
“Apple TV is essentially an accessory for the iPad. They lose money, which is unusual for Apple,” he said Thursday, speaking at the Recode conference here. “If you’re losing money, why would you want to sell more?”
Wood also commented on Amazon’s upcoming set-top box debuting next month, as well as overall competition in the set-top media box market:
“Every year about this time, the Amazon box comes up that they’re about to launch. And the new Apple TV is about to launch … We’ve been competing with Apple TV for six years now, and every year, we’ve grown,” Wood told Kafka. ”We’re in the TV platform business. Our goal is to be the operating system for TV.”
The CEO also went on to tell the crowd that sales of the Roku doubled after Apple dropped the price of the Apple TV from $249 to $99 two years ago. Wood’s comments are notable given that the Apple TV reportedly generated $1 billion last year, which was revealed by Apple CEO Tim Cook during the company’s 2014 shareholder’s meeting.
Roku refreshed its set-top box line with three new models joining its flagship Roku 3 last September, and also introduced a $50 HDMI streaming-stick to compete directly with Google’s Chromecast and the Apple TV. Despite the Apple TV’s growing popularity, however, a report last August from Parks Associates indicated that the Roku has proven to be more popular than Apple’s set top box, as 14% of U.S. broadband households were said to be using streaming media boxes.
Apple is expected to launch a new Apple TV sometime in the near future, with some rumors pointed to a refined set-top box that may include gaming and cable box-like capabilities in addition to the aforementioned streaming TV integration.
A report from The Information also added details to the forthcoming device, claiming that it will feature a dramatically overhauled interface, which will blend TV listings with apps and video from the web, with Apple asking iOS game developers to make their titles compatible with its new product so that users can play games on their TV using iOS devices as controllers.![]()
Steps To Follow When Renting A Commercial Property In Newport
The very nature of Newport has made it a place where business thrives. A plethora of roads and railway networks, easy accessibility, and state-of-the-art facilities have made the place a lucrative destination for investors. You may even qualify for a grant of up to £500 that is available to pre start-ups and to businesses that are aged one year or less.
If you are thinking of renting a place for your business at Newport it is a great decision. The place would automatically bring you a host of benefits. However, you have to be mindful about a few things. Keep reading to find out what.
Take a closer look at your lease: Spend as much time as you have to in understanding your lease. The time and effort thus spent will go a long way. This will save you many complexities that may arise later on. A lease contains many small details. For instance, if you need to give a notice to your landlord. If so, how many days before moving out should that be. Failure to follow these small things may cost you money that you might have saved otherwise.
Negotiate: Try to negotiate a lower rent with the landlord. This might be easier when the economy is going through a tough time and difficult when there is an economic boom. However, there is no harm in trying. Moreover, if you are renewing the lease, you stand a better chance at negotiating a lower rent. This is because, your landlord may be more inclined to respect the trust between the two of you and would want to avoid the hassle of looking for a new tenant.
A lease contract for three years or more usually has a clause about rent review. In simple words, this means the rent will increase after those three years. Try to push it at least to five years.
What about the added expenditure: Sometimes paying for insurance, electricity, gas, and the likes are put on the tenant’s list of responsibilities. Your lease document should state it. Take a good look to find out what applies to you.
Assess the condition of the property: Even before you move your office to the new place, make sure you have a detailed assessment of the property written and signed. This will protect you from any unjustified fines when you move out. It is better to choose a place that does not need any major repairs. In case you damage some parts of the property, it is better to repair it before moving out. Settling for a sum of money instead of doing the repairs yourself might cost you more.
Finding the ideal commercial property in Newport is not hard. All you need is proper research and attention to the details. The process is made simpler by websites with property listings. All you need to do is get online and shortlist from all the available properties listed.

Facebook Messenger on iOS expands to include groups and forwarding
Remember when Facebook bought and then shut down Beluga back in 2011? Well, almost three years later, Zuck’s finally putting features from his first group-messaging-app purchase to use. The latest update to Messenger on iOS lets you group contacts together however you’d like, and spam ‘em with animal stickers (or texts) en masse. Along with the typical stability fixes and speed improvements, the change log notes that you can now forward messages and photos to users that aren’t in your current conversation too — pretty much the opposite of Snapchat.

This R/C racer can shame sports cars with a 188mph top speed
The R/C Bullet might be tiny, but it’s so fast it can leave some supercars in the dust. The 1:10 scale model with four-wheel drive was recently timed at 188mph, beating its own 171.96mph world record (as shown after the break). The spaceship-like speeder is the brainchild of Nic Case, already a savant in making radio-controlled cars and breaking records. He built a Schumacher Mi3 R/C before the Bullet, which also held the Guinness World Record in 2008. In fact, he’s refining the Bullet even further, hoping to top 200mph. Unfortunately for R/C enthusiasts out there, it doesn’t look like he has any plans to mass produce his creation — you’re probably better off saving up for a still-speedy-but-much-slower Traxxas.
