AT&T lowers price of 1-2 line Mobile Share Value Plans
AT&T on Sunday rolled out new Mobile Share Value Plan pricing for subscribers with one or two lines. Effective March 9, customers can pick up a 2GB Mobile Share Value Plan for $65 per month ($40 for 2GB data, $25 for smartphone access), a discount of $15 over the normal rate. Two lines will run $90 per month under the new pricing; each line receives unlimited voice, texting, 50GB free cloud storage through AT&T Locker.

An e-reader that makes calls: InkPhone promises two weeks on a charge
When we reviewed the dual-screen YotaPhone, some of you thought it’d have been better if the device simply skipped the LCD and relied on a single E Ink display instead. Well, that’s exactly the approach taken by Polish company Onyx, which is showing off a prototype of its MIDIA InkPhone here at CeBIT. Packing a 4.3-inch front-lit E Ink display (no LCD here), the device is designed as a back-to-basics device for people who need really long battery life or simply those who are looking for an e-reader that can also make calls. Part of the appeal, of course, is that E Ink displays sip power, and the company promises that the InkPhone will last for more than two weeks on a single charge of its 1,800mAh battery.
You might not have heard of ArtaTech, which is Poland’s equivalent of Kobo: it uses e-readers (manufactured by Onyx in China) that have access to its own proprietary bookstore and has national sales that are second only to that of, surprise surprise, Amazon’s Kindle. Of course, since there’s no need to provide content for a high-res display, the company can cut some corners on the internals front and reduce the asking price. It’s using a low-end Rockchip CPU, an unspecified (low) amount of RAM and only 4GB of on-board storage. There’s also no camera, but maybe the microSD card slot that can add up to 32GB more space will salve that wound a little.
When we used it, we found that some of the elements worked really well, with the e-reader app behaving as smoothly and responsive as the Kindle app on a traditional smartphone, although we couldn’t say the same about using the device in other modes. In fact, when we tried to swipe between pages on the home screen, there was a wait of up to 20 seconds before it would respond to our commands. There’s also the small matter that you won’t be able to use Google Play or Amazon’s Kindle app (or any other Android app, for that matter) without installing the APK yourself, since the company believes that it can’t guarantee the minimum levels of usability and quality that its customers might expect — especially since a number of e-book apps have animations that won’t run well on the display’s low refresh rate. Still, if you’re up for giving it a go, production is expected to begin toward the end of this month and should arrive on store shelves in Germany and Poland at some point in April. It’ll be priced at around €140 ($195) and will also be available via Amazon if you’re based elsewhere in the world.

One of Facebook’s biggest science pages is becoming a TV show
Science TV shows are enjoying a small renaissance, it seems. Virtually in sync with the first episode of the Cosmos reboot, Facebook page and stand-alone website I F-ing Love Science (yes, we know how that’s really written) has announced that it’s getting a TV show on the Science Channel around the third quarter of the year. Late night talk show host Craig Ferguson will present the series, while page founder Elise Andrew (shown at center) will contribute behind the scenes. The TV deal is a testament to IFLS‘ online influence — its Facebook page alone has over 10 million likes, and over 50 million people get the site’s social updates every week. The show may only reel in a portion of that internet audience, but it still represents a victory for those who want more science in their living rooms.

Samsung Manufacturing Issues Reportedly Overblown, May Split A8 Production with TSMC
Samsung may play a larger role in the production of Apple’s next generation A8 processor than previously rumored, claims ZDNet Korea (via GforGames). According to the report, the Korean company has already signed a contract to produce the A8 processor at its Austin, Texas plant and is in the final stages of testing before mass production begins.
This latest information from an anonymous Samsung official contradicts an earlier report that said Samsung was struggling with poor yields of the A8 processor and could not meet Apple’s demands. As a result, the bulk of A8 chip production was said to be shifting to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). These “manufacturing issues” were “exaggerated claims” says the Samsung source, stating that the company is ready to start mass production of the A8 in Q2 2014.
While Samsung and TSMC may be splitting A8 production however, the latter already appears to have a lead on the Korean manufacturer. A recent report from Taiwan’s Commercial Times claims TSMC has started production of the next generation chip.
Samsung has been the exclusive manufacturer of Apple’s A-series chips, but Apple has been looking to depend less on its rival by shifting some of its orders to TSMC. Apple reportedly struck a deal with TSMC in 2013 to start A-series chip production early in 2014.

[LEAK] Lots more photos of the All New HTC One leak out, unsurprisingly looks exactly the Same
By now, most of you will have already seen a substantial number of photos of what is going to be the All New HTC One, HTC‘s next flagship device, which is expected to be announced at a March 25th event. In fact, some might say that we’ve probably seen too many leaked photos of the device already (Seriously, does everybody have one or something?). But for those who don’t think they have, or haven’t seen any, you’re in luck as today we have many more photos of the All New HTC One for you to look at.
There’s nothing terribly new in the photos (12 in total), or at least, nothing that we haven’t seen before from the formerly codenamed, HTC M8. Confirmed yet again is the dual-sensor rear camera, as well as the general design of the device. Probably of most note is one of the photographed devices is a China Mobile device, which is good news for those of you who are customers there, but a close second would be the photos that show the All New One posing with its much bigger brother, the HTC One Max. The 5.9-inch Max positively dwarfs the All New One, which is expected to come out a 5-inch device. Check out all the photos below:

Netflix reportedly reaches another Comcast-style agreement, but with a Norwegian ISP
Netflix’s oddly public peering agreement to connect directly with Comcast has, as many expected, been followed closely by a similar deal. What may surprise some is that this arrangement is with Norway’s Telenor and not Verizon or AT&T, although the circumstances are remarkably similar. Filter Magazine points out a report from Dagens Næringsliv (Today’s Business), a Norwegian industry paper, revealing an arrangement where Netflix is apparently paying rent to place its servers loaded full of movies inside the telecommunication company’s datacenter. Telenor spokesman Jørn Bremtun confirmed a commercial agreement to Filter but could not reveal details, although Netflix’s OpenConnect proposal suggested a similar arrangement, without payment.
Telenor has recently dropped sharply in Netflix’s ISP speed index (sound familiar?), and like the Comcast announcement, this new deal is drawing scrutiny from supporters of the principles of net neutrality. Telenor is held to the standards of net neutrality as set by the Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority (PDF), just like Comcast is under the terms of its agreement to purchase NBC. Also just like Comcast, Telenor claims that charging Netflix is not blocked by those standards, since it isn’t providing preferential treatment to any particular traffic on the network. Finn Myrstad of The Consumer Council of Norway echoes statements by US consumer rights groups and our post on the topic, pointing out that the secret nature of such deals is inherently troubling. There’s still no word on any other similar agreements with US ISPs, but the trend appears to be firmly in motion.

HTC’s next One leaks again in all-angle photo shoot
HTC’s upcoming successor to the One, codenamed M8, has been a leaky ship while sailing to its March 25th launch. But the latest set of photos from a Chinese Weibo site leave nothing to the imagination, showing a possible China Mobile retail model from nearly all angles. Of interest are the speaker grills, which seem to be coated with a clear layer of material, possibly for protection. The leaker also said that the M8 used a lot of new CNC process tech, resulting in a very tight build on the handset. Otherwise, the gallery confirms details we’ve already seen and several pics with an HTC One Max show the relative size. To cap it off, @evleaks has has shown a possible LED smart cover for the M8, which mimics one we saw for the Alcatel One OneTouch by showing the weather, time and other info.
