Seido Dilex Combo with Metal Kickstand for Moto X Review

Recently I got my hands on a new case for the Moto X and like I have said before, I am not a case kinda guy.  I despise having a brick in my pocket, because I really do enjoy the sleek size of my Moto X.  Not to mention, the wood back I payed extra for so I can “stand out” from the crowd. However, the Seido Dilex with its tough as nails metal kickstand is really growing on me.  So lets get to it:

What we got:

  • Seido Dilex combo with metal kickstand (Combo meaning belt holster too)

The Good:

  • Case is very well built as it consist of two parts, interior casing made from impact absorbing polymer and exterior hardened plastic skeleton provides extra protection at impact points
  • Belt holster is lined with felt to provide extra protection when it is clipped in and also swivels in 7 different directions
  • Case adds .22cm to the phones thickness
  • Kickstand is very nice and not cheap feeling
  • Cutouts are dead on and conforms to the phone without interfering with the screen
  • Does not leave finger prints
  • Color Options (Black, Blue, White, Red, Purple)
  • Does not collect dust particles between the case and the screen

The Bad:

  • Pocket lint does stick the interior casing, not ideal but easily removed
  • Covers up my beautiful wood back, all I can see is the speaker and camera lens ring
  • Belt clip takes some getting use to

Judgement:

Overall, the case is fantastic.  It provides me with a medium level of protection, which gives me peace of mind, although I do miss seeing my custom Moto X.  This is what I must come to grips with if I want to provide a decent level of protection for my phone.

Seido has done a fantastic job, yet again, by providing a case that is easily removable from your pocket or placed in your belt holster without sacrificing too much in the daily use of your phone.  I am currently using the Dilex and would highly recommend anyone looking for a decent case from a reputable manufacturer.

Lets talk money, the Dilex combo will set you back around 40 bucks on Amazon,or if you’re not into holsters you can pick up just the case for 26 bucks. I feel that the case is definitely worth the money and if you are big into belt holsters, you will not be disappointed either.

Soon you’ll be able to broadcast mobile games via Twitch.tv

Twitch.tv is ready to give your Jetpack Joyride skills the audience they deserve. The outfit has just released a mobile software toolset that will let devs enable live broadcasting, capturing and archiving of your in-game exploits on Android and iOS. With its proposed features (including chat, audio capture and options for finding streams from people playing similar games), the mobile tools essentially mirror what’s available on PC and consoles. Even with 10 million installs of Twitch’s mobile apps, however, the question that remains is if anyone will actually want to watch you play Threes.

Adobe’s all-in-one photo app Revel arrives on Android

If one of the many, many photo apps on Android isn’t doing it for you, Adobe’s just added Revel to the fray. Though it’s touting features like ease-of-use, automatic syncing, sharing and privacy for the app (which has been on iOS for quite a while), we actually found the built-in Photoshop Express-like features to be the best part. Those include scaling, rotation, brightness, contrast, filters and other handy adjustments, with a much simpler interface than Photoshop Express (thank goodness). If interested, you can upload all the photos and video you want for the first 30 days, then add 50 videos or photos a month for free after that. For unlimited storage, you’ll pay $6 per month or $60 per year. A notable oversight is that Creative Cloud subscribers don’t get free access, as it would let pros share their portfolios more easily. As for as the privacy, it’ll probably take us quite a bit more time to get over some deep trust issues.

Apple Released Confidential License Terms with Nokia While Sanctioning Samsung for Role in Leaks

Last October, Apple filed a motion seeking sanctions against Samsung and its outside lawyers, accusing both of unlawfully sharing sensitive data about Apple’s 2011 patent license agreement with Nokia. Specifically, the motion stated that a Samsung executive informed Nokia that the terms of the patent settlement were “known to him”, and used that information to negotiate other patent agreements in Samsung’s favor. The license terms between Apple and Nokia were marked “Highly Confidential – Attorneys’ Eyes Only”, but were shared with other Samsung employees.

In January, Judge Paul S. Grewal ruled against imposing sanctions on Samsung, instead choosing to solely penalize the company’s law firm, Quinn Emanuel. Now however, FOSS Patents is reporting that Apple released its confidential license terms with Nokia and the NEC while seeking sanctions against Samsung for its role in the leaks.

The license terms were viewable in a publicly accessible court proceedings document on the Internet for four months before they were removed, as Samsung has filed a new motion asking the court to reduce the penalties against its law firm:

Apple’s and Nokia’s scorched-earth approach to Samsung’s inadvertent disclosure, and the amount of the concomitant fees Apple and Nokia incurred in pursuing those efforts, must be juxtaposed against the fact that Apple had simultaneously posted (and Nokia neglected to notice) this information on the Internet for all the world to see. The fee award should be reduced accordingly.

Samsung also added in its filing that Apple should now be required to provide information as to what happened based on “transparency and evenhandedness.” A hearing on Samsung’s new motion against Apple is scheduled to take place on April 8, as the company also states it may seek further sanctions against Apple after reviewing other information about the situation.

The new motion comes before a second patent infringement lawsuit between Apple and Samsung is set to begin on March 31, 2014. Samsung will only have four patents claims to bring to the upcoming trial, as Judge Koh invalidated two of its patent claims in January.

[LEAK] More photos of the All New HTC One leak out as well as a Benchmark

photos of the All New HTC OneJust in case you hadn’t already had your fill of photos of the All New HTC One, here are another set of leaked photos for you to enjoy. By now, there’s very little that we haven’t already seen of the device after quite a lot of it was covered in a 12-minute walkthrough video leaked earlier this week, but apparently that’s not going to stop anyone breaching HTC‘s non-disclosure agreement.

photos of the All New HTC OneWhile the photos might not generally be of particular interest, there is one photo which shows the All New HTC One‘s performance on the Quadrant benchmarking software. Seeing as the All New One outperforms the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Xperia Z Ultra, both which possess the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, it’s pretty fair to conclude that the All New One is probably making use of Qualcomm’s newest chipset, the Snapdragon 801. While that’s just speculation, with 3 weeks still to go till the big day on March 25th and the rate at which these leaks are coming, we wouldn’t be surprised if we had a specifications leak in the very near future.

two versions of the Oppo Find 7Oppo‘s next expected Android smartphone, the Oppo Find 7, is shaping up to be a very intriguing device; with rumoured hardware specifications that rival the newly announced Samsung Galaxy S5, the first half of 2014 is going to be a very interesting time for flagship devices. In it, Oppo have suggested that there will be two versions of the Oppo Find 7, one with a 1920×1080 resolution display and the other with the elusive 2560×1440 screen.

Whether this means the two variants will be different sizes, have different internal hardware or simply have two models with these screen resolutions wasn’t implied, but it’s only two weeks till the 19th of March event where Oppo has been teasing the announcement of this device. And if some of the rumours are true, particularly the one where the Find 7 has a 50MP camera, you might want to mark your calendars so you can tune in.

THE BUSINESS BENEFITS OF GOING MOBILE

Going mobile is the name of the game for business nowadays – whether you’re strictly online or a bricks and mortar business with a website on which you advertise your wares. The global mobile statistics for last year (2013) speak for themselves and demonstrate clearly the advantages of web application development. In the US 25% of web users nowadays are accessing the internet purely via mobile devices (and 22% in the UK). While this may not seem a huge number, it represents a quarter of the market and this is a growing trend. In some of the emerging economies like India, Ghana and South Africa the figures soar to more than 50%, while Egypt comes in top of the league tables with a massive 70% of web users who never use a desktop Web.

Internet users nowadays are wandering around with internet connected computers in their pockets – their smartphones and this opens up a whole new range of opportunities for businesses large and small. Businesses who want to stay ahead of the game need to ensure that their websites are mobile friendly so that prospective customers can access the websites on the go.
Making sure your website is mobile friendly is not that difficult. It just means that you need to take into consideration the following issues:

  • The website needs to be optimised to fit the screen dimensions on mobile phones and tablets (this means using a responsive web layout that will adapt to the screen whatever its size)
  • The website needs to load quickly so make sure it’s not cluttered with videos or images that will slow down load speed
  • Make sure your contact details are easy to see whatever the screen size – this will ensure that any prospective customers can find your premises or easily contact you online

In order to make sure that your business keeps up with internet trends, then getting a web designer to create a mobile app for you is a great way of adding to your revenue. More and more web designers are creating apps for business and the costs are starting to come down, making this a viable option for all businesses. Modern mobile devices have built in technology that enables users to interact with the digital environment at the click of a button. Tapping into this potential with a mobile app is a sure fire way of providing your customers with a better mobile experience.

One of the advantages that mobile apps have over websites is GPS technology which can deliver a responsive user experience by emerging the user in their environment. By using GPS or QR codes, you will be able to target your audience via location in order to deliver content. Using a mobile device provides users with tactile technology that will add to their user experience – they can literally hold your brand in their hands and use their fingers to swipe through your information – a great way of immersing the users in your brand and creating deeper engagement than an ordinary website would, and this is where a good web development London company would be able to help.

In order to ensure that prospective customers download you app, you will need to provide a great app that delivers a great experience. This means:

  • The app should provide added value to the user
  • The app should be convenient and easy to use
  • The app should be cross-[platform so that it’s suitable for all types of mobile device
  • The app should be useful enough to become an addictive tool that users rely on
  • The app should deliver a good return on investment (ROI) for your business

If you’re a small to medium business owner in the UK you may be thinking that all this technology is way beyond your budget. You couldn’t be more wrong – web and app development is a rapidly growing industry and costs are coming down at a rate of knots. If you’re thinking that this is something you really can’t afford to have – then think again. This is something that you really can’t afford not to have – going mobile is the only way of keeping your business ahead of the game. Just take a look at this infographic that demonstrates the popularity of mobile device usage in 2013 and you’ll soon see why going mobile is the only way forward for business.
There are plenty of web application development services in the UK that will provide a bespoke software development solution at an affordable price. Whether your customers are national, global or merely local, keeping up with the tech trends of today is a must if you want to stay in business. Look online for one of the award winning web design agencies and get in touch for an initial consultation. You might be pleasantly surprised at just how affordable a mobile solution is. You’ve probably used the print media for advertisements in the past (even if it’s just a fee to be listed in the Yellow Pages or Thompson’s Local Directory). Going mobile is a great way of advertising your services and should be seen as an essential part of your PR strategy.

Government working with Fitbit to recall rash-inducing sportsbands

Fitbit quickly issued a voluntary recall for its Force sportsbands, even though it has yet to pinpoint the exact component that can trigger contact dermatitis. We may soon find out, though, since the firm is working with the Consumer Products Safety Commission to shed more light on the situation. To be fair, Fitbit’s execs haven’t been sitting on their hands — they’ve been running tests and have results showing no problem with the device’s battery or electrical system. As Consumerist notes, the government agency usually accompanies recalls with detailed reports, so this development could help us find out what actually went down. We might finally know not only what the rogue component(s) is — if it’s the nickel in the stainless steel, a material/adhesive used in the device’s band or something else altogether — but also how many users were affected. Fitbit hasn’t notified all Force users of the issue yet but promises to email everyone after finalizing its recall plan with the CPSC.

Pebble 2.0 Beta App updated to version 11

The Android Beta App for the latest Pebble 2.0 has just been updated to version 11 and it seems a lot of the teething issues that users were originally experiencing have been ironed out.

Changelog:

  • PebbleKit JS localStorage is now sandboxed for each app
  • Many improvements to onboarding and FW installation
  • Issues with sideloading apps in some circumstances have been fixed
  • Some issues with loading JS configuration views after the app has been quit have been addressed
  • JavaScript app logs printed via ADB are cleaner
  • MyPebble now loads faster

Pebble are saying there is still one known outstanding issue which is yet to be fixed:

  • Pairing a Pebble during onboarding may not succeed. If you run into problems, exit the Pebble app. Remove the pairing entry from Android BT settings & your Pebble. Then pair manually using BT settings.

Pebble are advising that you’ll need to uninstall version 10 of the App before you install this one, and also any javascript-based Apps will need to be manually reinstalled after upgrading.

You can download the latest version 11 of the Android Beta App here.

The Nexus 6 is rumoured to be a “lightweight” version of the upcoming LG G3

nexus 6Already this year, we’ve heard multiple rumours that the LG G3 is already planned for a release in mid-2014, some placing it for release in May and some assuming it will come in June. Traditionally, LG‘s flagship devices, at least starting with the LG Optimus G, have served as the basis for the Nexus line of smartphones: the LG Optimus G became the Nexus 4, the LG G2 became the Nexus 5, and logic would say that a LG G3 would give credence to a possible Nexus 6 device. Today, Gizmodo.de has fanned the flames of this rumour by saying that the manufacturer of the Nexus 6 will be LG and that it will be more “lightweight”.

Seeing as the Nexus smartphones are generally made from slightly cheaper, lighter materials, it’s not surprising to hear the suggestion that any new Nexus device would also be more “lightweight”. As for specifications, assuming the Nexus 6 would possess the same internal hardware as the LG G3, it’s expected that these devices will have a 2K resolution display, some kind of a 64-bit processor and a 16MP camera. With Google I/O happening in late June as well, these rumoured time-frames do open up the very real possibility that a new Nexus device will show up at Google’s inaugural event.

What do you think about these rumours about a Nexus 6, or even a LG G3? Let us know your opinion in the comments.
