Leaked HTC One M8 video draws HTC attention

Almost every HTC fan is looking forward to March 25th, when the company will officially unleash the successor to their famous HTC One. Known, for now, as the HTC One M8 we’ve learned much about the device over the last few months.

Plenty of people are excited, some a little more than others. Take for instance this guy Roshan Jamkatal whose parents apparently work at HTC. This weekend he uploaded a 12-minute video of an early release M8 in action. We’d be lying if we said people didn’t notice. In fact, HTC, quickly caught wind of the video swept into action.

A few since-deleted tweets from HTC’s Global Online Communications Manager tell us that the kid could be in hot water. Perhaps, even, to the tune of his parents being fired. Reading through his tweets we find that this could very well have been the case; it’s suggested they both work at HTC.

Morning dashboard concept for Chromecast could be future of Google Now

Up until now, much of our Chromecast usage has been relegated to streaming our music, videos, or local files. Pretty much everything we do is in some form of watching for entertainment purposes. But, what if you could turn your Chromecast-connected TV into a large dashboard of relevant and personal information?

Imagine yourself preparing for work in the morning and enjoying a cup of coffee. Instead of watching news or sports on the TV, however, you’re watching a totally customized TV experience with all sort of important details.

We came across this “morning dashboard” concept for Chromecast and think its designer/developer could be on to something.

The concept consists of four main categories:

  • Today report:
    • Days agenda
    • Agenda options based off calendar (e.g. Lunch options close to the office on your foursquare to-do list)
    • Commute report
    • Weather
  • Personal Report from yesterday:
    • Activity Report
    • Sleep Tracking
    • Check-ins
    • Driving data
  • Home Report:
    • Sunrise/sunset
    • temperature
    • Package deliveries
    • Carbon Footprint
  • Social Report:
    • What you did last year today
    • Buzzworthy news
    • New shows available
    • Birthdays

How cool would it be to wake up, tap a widget or icon on your phone and have your TV displaying a personal screen of all things pertinent? Move this into the office and you can have it updated throughout the day with team goals, agenda, news, calendar events, social media, and more.

Taking things one step further, imagine Google placing a bunch of your cards across your TV screen. Instead of scrolling through them in one long column, your Chromecast spreads them out and displays them in a clean and orderly fashion.

We love this concept quite a bit and think it could be a tipping point for Chromecast productivity, how about you?

LSAT Prep Made Simple

banner_programs_continuingeducation_lsat

The Law School Admission Test is a standardized test divided into five multiple-choice questions. Each year thousands of students from across the country—and even more so from around the world—take the test (all hoping to achieve a score in the top ten percentile). Students who do attain scores in the top ten percentile are more likely to receive offers of admission into a top law school than those who do not, which is why quality LSAT prep is important.

LSAT Prep Study Materials

LSAT prep materials are designed to take the guesswork out of the actual test. By familiarizing yourself with question types—and then formulating a strategy for how you would answer them on test day—you can effectively prepare for the LSAT. You will need a game plan and about 3 to 6 months of lead time to ensure you are able to cover all the basics of LSAT prep. By and large, you will need sample questions from which to work off of and study, as well as access to LSAT prep explanations, which you can purchase in hard copy form or experience online through a virtual test preparation company.

High Score Could Mean Admission into a Top Law School

Performing well on the LSAT—this means seeing the test the way experts see it and then using that to your advantage—means your score could fall within the top percentile. Students who score in the top percentile have a significantly higher chance of being accepted into a top law school, such as Harvard University Law School, Columbia University Law School, or Yale University Law School. Consider the following LSAT score percentiles for the top ten law schools in the country by LSAT Prep Course.

Top Percentile by Law School

Ranking Law School LSAT Scores Range
1 Harvard University Law School 170-176
2 Columbia University Law School 170-175
3 Yale University Law School 169-177
4 New York University School of Law 169-173
5 University of Chicago Law School 169-173
6 Stanford University Law School 168-172
7 Northwestern University Law School 166-172
8 University of Pennsylvania Law School 166-171
9 University of Virginia School of Law 166-171
10 Georgetown University Law Center 166-170

LSAT Prep: Only a Few Mouse-Clicks Away

Prep for the LSAT with 7Sage.com. This easy-to-use website offers a wide range of online test prep materials, including sample tests, videos, forums, and more. Connect with peers, or discuss the LSAT with experts. Start studying early, though. The LSAT is only administered four times each year and seats are limited. You must register to attend, and fees apply. Although the Law School Admission Council Inc. does allow you to change your test date and/or test center, if necessary, you must pay a fee to do so, and restrictions apply.

Considerations

Before you kick off your LSAT prep, take a moment to consider one points: LSAT score is an integral part of the admissions process—many law schools weight it higher than undergraduate GPA. Thus, you want an LSAT prep program that works for you. The best program will allow you to gain the truest sense of how you’d score on the actual test.

No Pandora Support on CarPlay, but Apple ‘Continues to Be a Valued Partner’

pandora_newlogoPandora confirmed today that Apple’s newly released CarPlay feature does not include integration with Pandora’s popular streaming music service, despite CarPlay offering support for other music services including iTunes Radio, Spotify, Beats Radio, Stitcher Radio for Podcasts, and iHeartRadio.

In a statement to MacRumors, Pandora said that although its service was not integrated into CarPlay, Apple “continues to be a valued partner.” The company also suggests that it is continuing to explore opportunities to expand its presence within the car, hinting that it could be working towards integration with CarPlay in the future.

At this time, Pandora is not integrated with Apple CarPlay. As a first mover in the auto space, we continue to broaden our relationships with OEMs while also exploring other opportunities to expand our presence in the car. Apple has been and continues to be a valued partner.

It is unclear why Apple chose to exclude Pandora from CarPlay while supporting other competing services from companies like Beats Music and Spotify, but it may be due to the similarities between iTunes Radio and Pandora’s own service. Both services are station-based, allowing users to create radio stations based on music genres, artists, and specific songs, which are then used to play similar music, making Pandora a direct competitor for iTunes Radio.

Pandora, in addition to mirroring iTunes Radio’s functionality, is also ranked as the most popular music app in the App Store, sitting at the top of the free app charts in that category and the number 22 free app overall. The less popular services from Spotify and Beats Music work differently than Pandora and iTunes Radio, allowing users to search for specific songs, while iHeartRadio acts more like a traditional radio station.

In its statement, Pandora was quick to point out that although it is not included in CarPlay, its service is already integrated with more than 130 different vehicle models and present on several aftermarket stereo devices.

With CarPlay, iOS users with compatible cars will be able to utilize voice and touch commands, along with car controls, to access functions like Maps and various music apps, in addition to making phone calls and sending messages.

CarPlay will debut this week in vehicles from Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo. Apple has also made deals with other car companies for future integration, including BMW, Ford, Honda, Nissan, Kia, Toyota, and more.

Android 4.3 OTA Outed for T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z, Starting Today?

Android 4.3 for Sony Xperia Z T-MobileIn typical information cruising we came across a post over at Android Geeks that said the T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z Android 4.3 update was starting to roll out. The page they referred to was the T-Mobile support page for the Xperia Z. That is is all on the up and up, but it seems that shortly after it was published, it was removed.

Priory to its vanishing act, the AndroidGeek guys got a screenshot of the page. It outlined that as of March 3rd, today, there would be an update to Android 4.3 for the Xperia Z. It would be labeled with firmware version 10.4.C.0.797. The improvements sections lists a few niceties though.

  • Software Stability Improvements
  • UXP Air user interface redesign
  • WiFi Calling user interface redesign
  • Stock keyboard switched from Nuance XT9 to Swiftkey
  • 5 signal bars instead of 4

A few things could have happened that forced it to be pulled back down. One, the publication wasn’t finished. Seriously, there is an extra bullet point with no writing.

Xperia Z T-Mobile Android 4.3Second, while today is March 3rd, they have all day to start the roll out. It is most likely still coming, just not until later this evening. Or third, which we don’t want to have happen, it started its roll out and and failed or screwed up some devices. We didn’t see any reports of issues, or of anyone getting the OTA yet for that matter, so we are going to go with the first two reasons for now.

For those sporting the T-Mobile branded Sony Xperia Z,  keep your device charged up and don’t stray to far from a WiFi connection. The file size that was listed comes in at 308 MBs. If you happen to see it pop-up, let us, and the rest of the users, know about it.

Paranoid Android 4.1 beta released with reworked PIE controls for KitKat

There are plenty of options when looking to run a custom ROM on your Android device and one of the most popular, besides CyanogenMod, is Paranoid Android.

Official PA ROMs only support Nexus devices, so if you don’t see your device in the downloads, it’s not supported by the main development team, but there may be a port and you just need to search the forums.

Up until recently, the latest PA ROMs based on Android 4.4 KitKat were primarily a stock experience, but today an update was released, PA 4.1 beta, bringing one of the ROM’s killer “flagship” features, PIE controls, its stock navigation replacement.

According to PA, PIE is “a simple, straight-forward replacement of the navigation bar that optimizes the screen space available to the user.”

PIE is basically a fully-customizable replacement for the on-screen navigation buttons and stays hidden off-screen, only seen with a predefined gesture that can come from any of the four sides of the device.

Via Google+, the PA development team said that it faced some problems with the immersive mode introduced in KitKat, and has now released a redesigned version to match the KitKat design philosophy. Instead of porting the feature to its KitKat ROMs, PA completely redesigned the feature for the new version of Android.

PIE controls are now fully-integrated into the core UX with the introduction of “on-the-spot preferences,” so PA users no longer need to sort through endless settings.

Additionally, it gives users status information at a glance when your status bar is hidden in immersive mode, plus the stock Google Now swipe up gesture is now integrated.

If you’ve never tried out Paranoid Android before, be sure to check out 4.1 beta on your rooted, unlocked device, which is now available for the Nexus 7 2013 (Wi-Fi and 4G), Nexus 7 2012 (Wi-Fi and 3G), Nexus 5, Nexus 4, Nexus 10 and the Galaxy Nexus (GSM, Sprint and Verizon). Be sure to grab the latest Gapps as well.

Up until now, it has only been available by navigating to the site. Well, the Android app is finally here, and it does just about everything you could ask.

First, you need to sign in with your Google account to use the service. The interface should be familiar if you’ve ever used it previously. Paste your long link in the text box, and there you have it – a shortened link.

You can choose to open the link in the browser, copy to your clipboard, or share. And you can do all of these from the handy notification it gives you, as well.

For many, this may be a download-and-forget type of app. However, it’s very well done and convenient.
