RIM expands range with BlackBerry Bold 9780

by John_A

Research in Motion (RIM) has introduced another model into its Bold range of smartphones: the BlackBerry Bold 9780.

Being the second BlackBerry smartphone to sport BlackBerry 6 OS (after the BlackBerry Torch), complete with new WebKit browser, the 9780 also houses a 5-megapixel camera and 512MB of in-built flash memory. Plus, there’s a memory card slot that can cope with up to 32GB of external storage.

Built like a traditional BlackBerry device (in preference over the Torch, for instance), the handset also features an easy to use keyboard and optical trackpad. It will be available from multiple carriers around the world as of November.

But it’s the debut of BlackBerry 6 on a new handset that is the major talking point: “We are very excited to introduce the BlackBerry Bold 9780 featuring the new BlackBerry 6 operating system,” says Carlo Chiarello, vice president, Product Management at Research In Motion.

“[It] delivers a wide range of enhancements including a rich new user interface, a fast and powerful WebKit-based browser, broadly improved communications and multimedia capabilities, [and] an incredibly useful Universal Search feature”.

We’ve given BlackBerry 6 a going over when we saw the BlackBerry Torch and we’ll be sure to bring you all the details of how it works on a traditional QWERTY BlackBerry handset.
