You can now email Google Play credit gifts, but only in the US for now

For the longest time, the only way to give people the gift of Google Play credit was to buy them a physical Google Play gift card. Seeing as we’re in the 21st century, Google has now come up with a less physical version of this and has started rolling this out – and just in time for the Holiday season as well. Starting now, you’ll be able to buy Google Play credit gifts online, after which you’ll be prompted to email Google Play credit gifts to the person of your choosing – you’ll be able to do so in denominations of $10, $15, $20, $25, $50, or $100.
While this is a great new addition for people struggling to find presents for their loved ones, the only chink in the armour is that these new Google Play credit gifts are only available in the US right now. Presumably a global roll-out is going to occur at some point, but we doubt it will be in time for the Holidays anywhere else in the world. Note that to buy said credit gifts, you’ll have to buy them using your linked credit accounts, not any pre-existing Google Play credit you have.

Lara Croft GO gets an all-new chapter with 26 new puzzles in latest update
Lara Croft GO, Square Enix’s latest addition to the Tomb Raider franchise, is one of the best mobile games released this year. The problem is, many users have been saying it’s a little short to warrant the $4.99 price tag. If you happen to be in that camp, we have some good news for you. Square Enix has just announced that Lara Croft GO is receiving a big update that will bring an all-new chapter, new puzzles a new mechanic and much, much more.
The new chapter is called The Shard of Life, and it takes place in a new location called the Cave of Fire. There are a total of 26 new puzzles in this new chapter, and there’s also a new mechanic that will allow enemies to regenerate after a certain amount of time. Square Enix has also included a new set of gems to discover, along with a new Angel of Darkness outfit, 2 new artifacts and a new snapshot feature, as well.

Square Enix says these are some of the most challenging levels in the game, which should be welcome news to anyone who has every played this title. The big update is now live in the Google Play Store and on iOS, and a Windows update is coming soon. Follow the Play Store link below to start playing!
OxygenOS 2.1.3 for the OnePlus X brings SD card improvements, security fixes and more
OnePlus has just announced that it will soon begin rolling out OxygenOS version 2.1.3 to the OnePlus X, the company’s new budget-friendly handset. Among the standard bug fixes and optimizations that normally come along with incremental updates, the X will be getting a few notable fixes relating to the SD card. Also included in the update are a few security patches. For the full changelog, see below:

The company says this over-the-air update will be rolled out incrementally, starting with roughly 10% of users. The update will begin rolling out to the general public around 24-48 hours after the initial release, assuming all goes well.

Griffin Review: The Guide Cable Management Set Will Keep Your Desk Organized
Griffin’s Guide Magnetic Cable Management Set was first announced at CES in January of 2015, but it didn’t become available for purchase until September. We went hands-on with the Guide to see if it was worth the wait as a cable management solution.
The Guide Cable Management Set is modular and consists of three weighted bases and three magnetic aluminum cable anchors that attach to the bases. Each base is made from a polished stainless steel with a shiny finish while the anchors, available in three sizes from small to large, are made from an anodized copper-colored aluminum.
Together, the Guide system looks great on a desk, but it is only available in the polished steel and copper colorway, which doesn’t match any iOS devices and while neutral, may not match all office and room decors. I liked the design of the Guide, but I did wish it was available in a wider selection of colors.
Each of the three bases is the same size, measuring in at 2.28 x 1.98 inches, but the magnetic cable anchors come in a range of sizes to fit different cords. The smallest of the three anchors is sized to fit a single iPhone cable, while the middle one can hold several iPhone-sized cables or a couple of larger cables, and the biggest anchor can hold thicker cables like those for cameras and other electronics. The weight of the Guide bases will keep them in place, but there’s also a non-skid material on the bottom to provide even more traction.
Because the anchors attach to each base using magnets, they can be arranged in multiple ways. One anchor can be used per base or multiple anchors can fit on a single base to meet various cable management needs. For my work space, I used the smaller one to hold an iPhone cable that has a pesky habit of slipping off the edge of the desk, while I used the other two to hold my MacBook cable and cables for other devices in place.

‘Dragons Lair’ movie project leaves Kickstarter, heads to Indiegogo
Don’t worry, Dragon’s Lair fans, the proposed feature-length project is still happening — but it won’t be raising money on Kickstarter. Creators Don Bluth and Gary Goldman have cancelled their original crowdfunding campaign and will be relaunching it on Indiegogo on December 1. They promise it’ll be “a stronger, more valiant campaign” that takes into account suggestions from fans. Bluth and Goldman didn’t say specifically why they were shifting the campaign, but we’ve reached out for comment. One big advantage Indiegogo has over Kickstarter is “Flexible Funding,” which lets crowdfunding organizers keep the money they raise, even if they don’t reach their goal. The pair aimed to raise $550,000 to produce a short to court investors and studios, who would hopefully back a feature-length Dragon’s Lair film (which ultimately could cost upwards of $100 million). They ended up raising over $241,000 in one month before nixing the Kickstarter campaign. I can’t blame them for aiming high, but honestly I’d settle for a lower-budget film backed by the likes of Netflix or Amazon.

Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 is too sexist for Europe and US
Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, the game where you play volleyball as scantily clad women, won’t be making its way to the US or Europe. Apparently, the game’s publisher is worried about how Western audiences will react to the way the franchise depicts women. The latest installment features a sun-tanning system (whatever the hell that means), butt fights (as seen in the gameplay trailer below) and the ability to dress the characters in a wide variety of costumes.

Valve’s Gabe Newell is backing a smart sous vide cooking tool
Valve founder Gabe Newell isn’t just interested in gaming technology, like living room computers and virtual reality — he also appreciates the science behind a well-prepared meal, too. The legendary game developer has poured money into ChefSteps to help them make Joule, a smart immersion circulator for sous vide cooking. Instead of fiddling with buttons on the wand to heat your water bath, you use a mobile app to set and monitor temperatures. It has presets for particular food types, and you can even have it change temperatures at different times — if one guest prefers rare steak while another likes it well-done, you can make that happen. The hardware is small yet powerful, too, packing a 1100W heater into an 11-inch cylinder that can fit into your kitchen drawers.

T-Mobile will give you an extra $200 to switch from Sprint
T-Mobile’s ongoing feud with Sprint continues to have some benefits for your bottom line… and this time, T-Mobile is trying to tempt you with cold, hard cash. As of November 26th, the carrier is running a month-long promo that promises an extra $200 (on top of the existing credit) for every phone line you bring over from one of Sprint’s networks, whether it’s a prepaid Boost plan or a full-fledged subscription. You don’t need to trade in your old gear, either. The move is a bit sneaky given that T-Mobile just hiked its unlimited data rates — you may well be paying more per month if you truly need unlimited access. If you’re already interested in jumping ship, though, this should make the transition that much easier.
