Formula E is planning the first racing series for driverless cars

It was only last year that Formula E made its debut as the first racing series exclusively for electric cars. Now, after just two seasons of championships, its organizers are already preparing for another first: a driverless racing series. The series, dubbed Roborace, will begin with the 2016-2017 season, with each one-hour event taking place directly before all the “regular” Formula E races, and on the same circuits, to boot.

Amazon Prime Video Coming to New Apple TV Possibly Within a ‘Few Weeks’

Last month, Amazon removed all Apple TV and Chromecast product listings from its website because the devices do not offer its Prime Video streaming service, which the online retailer said may cause confusion for customers. Nearly a month later, the new Apple TV remains unavailable on Amazon, but that could soon change.

Apple-TV-Amazon-Prime-Video

Amazon appears to have confirmed to engineer Dan Bostonweeks that it is developing a tvOS app for Prime Video that could launch before the end of 2015. “Hopefully, within a few weeks span, you will be able to see the Amazon Instant Video app feature on your Apple TV,” the company purportedly said in an email.

http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsApple was wrongly criticized by some in October for seemingly not allowing Prime Video on the new Apple TV, but shortly after the company provided a statement to BuzzFeed News emphasizing that “all are welcome” on the platform — Amazon simply had not submitted a Prime Video app for the tvOS App Store.

Apple tells BuzzFeed News that “all are welcome” on its new Apple TV platform. But Amazon — which recently purged Apple TV from its store — doesn’t have a Prime Video app in the Apple TV App Store. And as of a few days ago, it hadn’t submitted one.

Amazon told BuzzFeed News it “doesn’t have anything to share” on the topic at the time, but it now appears the company is actively developing a tvOS solution. Amazon Video allows Prime members to instantly stream tens of thousands of movies and TV episodes, with hundreds of thousands of titles available to buy or rent.

Amazon Video for iOS is free on the App Store and accessible by Amazon Prime members. The service is also available on Android, Fire OS, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii, Wii U, the web and select TV and Blu-ray players from LG, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and Vizio.

A new chiptune album is coming to the Nintendo Famicom

Every week it feels like a new video game soundtrack gets a vinyl release. Journey, The Last of Us, FTL and Shenmue — none of these are surprises anymore. So what’s next? MiniDiscs? Cassette tapes? Well, some musicians are keen to use cartridges instead. 8BIT MUSIC POWER is a new chiptune album that you’ll need to slide into a Nintendo Famicom (Japan’s equivalent of the NES) to listen to. Developed by RIKI and manufactured by Columbus Circle, it features 12 original tracks from, among others, former Famicom music composers Yuriko Keino (Xevious, Dig Dug) and Takeaki Kunimoto (Star Solider).

The full panel gets together (Joe Hindy, Jonathan Feist, Nirave Gondhia, Andrew Grush) and follows Josh on a Thanksgiving journey – they talk about the different plans they have for Thanksgiving before getting into the typical talk of what they’re grateful for. However, sprinkled among all of that are small rants about family, a bit of wine and whiskey, and talk about what YOU are thankful for! It’s the longest episode we might have ever recorded, but it also might be one of the funnest.

If you’re coming back from the Black Friday shopping, we hope that you stayed safe. If you’re just listening along with your Thanksgiving leftovers, pour the gravy on the turkey and press play!

The Android Authority Podcast – discussing topics in Android every single week. (Well, not so much this one. A little bit, though!)

Instagram adding multi-account support to Android app

instagram_app_icon

Instagram users who need to manage multiple accounts will be happy to hear that the social network platform is finally adding the ability to switch between multiple accounts without first logging out. The update is included in a new version, number 7.12.0 that is starting to rollout to some users, although the new feature is not showing up for everyone with this update, so a server side change may also be necessary.

The initial addition of an account is achieved via a new menu entry on the Settings page of the app, where users can access a menu to either add an existing account or create a new one from scratch. Once a second account is added, users can switch between the accounts by tapping on the username and using a drop down selector accessed on the profile page. Testing indicates Instagram displays a toast message to let users know they have successfully switched accounts.

If you want to check for the availability of this new feature, you can download the apk below and hope that your account is one of the accounts that Instagram added this new function to.

Toymaker VTech says data was stolen from its kiddie app store

VTech, the brand best known for its electronic kid’s toys and cordless phones, said Friday that hackers had stolen some of its customer data. While VTech is hardly the first company to see its user info compromised, the target here was relatively unusual: an app store for children. Learning Lodge, as it’s called, is a storefront where kids and their parents can download apps, games, e-books and various educational materials. While it’s a bit disturbing to imagine a breach that even tangentially involves children, the company says that no personally identifying information (social security numbers, et cetera) was compromised. VTech says no credit card information was exposed either.

Apple May Replace 3.5mm Headphone Jack on iPhone 7 With All-in-One Lightning Connector

Apple is planning to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack on the next-generation iPhone in favor of an all-in-one Lightning connector, according to often-reliable Japanese website Mac Otakara. Apple may also release Lightning-equipped EarPods to support the new audio output on future iOS devices.

Philips-M2L-iPhone-Trio

The report, citing a reliable source, claims the new same-sized Lightning connector will support Lightning-equipped and Bluetooth headphones, and have a DAC, or digital-to-audio converter, for backwards compatibility with wired headphones using standard 3.5mm stereo jacks.

The so-called “iPhone 7” will likely be more than 1mm thinner than the 7.1mm thick iPhone 6s as a result, according to the report. The sixth-generation iPod touch could be a comparable device, with a depth of 6.1mm, but the portable media player still has a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Apple will also reportedly release Lightning-equipped EarPods, which would likely be included in the box alongside the iPhone 7 and sold separately for use with other future iOS devices. Apple’s current EarPods with a 3.5mm stereo jack will presumably remain available for purchase afterwards for the foreseeable future.

Apple introduced new MFi Program specifications in June 2014 that allow third-party manufacturers to create headphones that connect to iOS devices via a Lightning cable, but the rollout has been slow. Philips unveiled Lightning-equipped Fidelio M2L and Fidelio NC1L headphones over the past 14 months.

Should this rumor prove true, Apple’s decision to switch to an all-in-one Lightning connector for charging and audio output could face the same kind of controversy as when Apple retired its proprietary 30-pin charging cable in favor of a smaller Lightning connector starting with the iPhone 5 in 2012.
