Deal: save 15% on any of our VPN deals and stay safe while browsing the web!

tigervpn-1

The internet is a dangerous place, and depending on where you are geographically located, it can also be quite annoying. This is why we always recommend VPN services to those who want to browse the web safely or simply need to unlock country-specific services like Hulu, Netflix and others.

The AA Deals Store does a good job at giving us deals on some of the best VPN services out there, but right now they are going nuts and giving you another discount on top of the already-low prices! Any customer can take an additional 15% off any AA Deals Store VPN offer by using coupon code “VPN15”. Just enter that code during checkout and your discount will be applied!

Pretty awesome, right? Now you have to choose which of these VPN services is the best for you. Let’s show you some of the VPN offers we have here!

These all already have discounts that range from 88% to 96% off. Add in an extra 15% off the final price and you have a total set of winners here. I have actually paid about $20 a month for VPN services in the past, when I used to live outside the USA. I wish I had come across deals like these then. I could have easily bought a lifetime subscription to one of these and still save money!

LG’s spending billions to make more OLED things

LG’s OLED 4K TVs are jaw-droppingly gorgeous, but the price still isn’t anywhere near the level it needs to be for mass consumer adoption. Hopefully the company’s new manufacturing plant can help that a bit thanks to economies of scale. A Reuters report says that the South Korean firm is spending some $8.71 billion (around 10 trillion Korean won) on a new manufacturing facility for the display panels in Paju, South Korea. Perhaps this can make up for some of the losses the tech giant suffered by halting production at one of its TV plants due to a gas leak earlier this year.

Google sheds some light on EU’s requirement to keep some info out of the light

Google_Logo_7356

Back in 2014, the European Union’s courts decided individuals covered by their jurisdiction had a right to not have some information about them show up in search results, the so-called “right to be forgotten.” Although action to protect individuals exercising this right applies to all search engines, by virtue of its size and having been a party to the original complaint, Google has been the primary recipient of attention regarding how this right will actually be implemented. To help the public understand the impact of the decision, Google has released a transparency report on search removals.

According to Google, the numbers they released cover the period of time going all the way back to May 29, 2014, when the company implemented their official request process. Based on the requirements of the ruling, Google has to consider each and every request individually on its merits, without using automated tools, thus turning things over to a large team of individuals.

So far that team has received 348,508 requests pursuant to the “right to be forgotten.” Those requests have resulted in the removal of 1,235,473 URLs from search results. Google indicates they have removed 42% of the URLs reviewed, meaning they have reviewed over 2.9 million URLs.

The breadth of sites that have been impacted through search results being suppressed is apparently quite large as the top ten sites only comprise 9% of the URLs removed from search results. Heading up the list is Facebook, followed by Profileengine.com, Google’s Groups platform, YouTube and Badoo in the top five.

Heed these warnings if you get a VR headset this holiday season

Samsung-Gear-VR

The Samsung Gear VR, along with units from other manufacturers, is hitting the market this holiday season, meaning there will be plenty of people in possession of the devices. If you happen to be one of those people or have a friend who gets a set, you may want to make sure they are aware of these safety warnings.

Two of the issues that can arise with Gear VR have to do with the fact that the devices have fairly powerful lens in them that are capable of focusing light over a short distance. Those old enough to remember may recall what happens with a magnifying glass, ants and sunlight – the same thing can happen with Gear VR. If the headset is left with the lenses up, sunlight can be focused onto whatever is below it, including your smartphone or possible flammable materials, igniting or melting them. So avoid leaving them laying around in this manner outside or anywhere inside where the path of sunlight may cross them.

Because those lenses normally focus light on your eyes, usually from your smartphone, it is important the units only be used with the smartphone installed in them. Using them “naked” means outside light will pass through the lenses and get focused on your eyes. This is especially important to avoid when dealing with sunlight, but any bright light can result in damage to your eyes from the magnification of light passing through.

Finally, Samsung and other manufacturers are recommending that VR devices not be used by children under the age of 13. The concern is that extensive use of the devices could affect visual development in children. Even older children are cautioned not to use the devices for extended periods of time to prevent problems from developing with or related to their eyesight.

If you get Gear VR or some other headset this season, be sure to be careful and mindful of these issues and have fun with this new technology.

LG V10 not going to Canada

lg_v10_design_dark

LG has been promoting the LG V10 rather heavily in the U.S. market. However, a representative from LG Canada indicates the device is not going to make it to the Canadian market according to current plans.

The information came to light in response to a question posed by an interested consumer via Facebook. The LG representative included the following statement in her reply:

Unfortunately, there aren’t any plans to bring the V10 to Canada.

before going on to suggest the LG G4 as a candidate. The LG Canada representative is identified as a member of the “Social Media Team” for LG Canada, so it may be possible the company eventually reverses this guidance by way of an official statement. If they stand behind it and really have no plans to release the LG V10 in Canada, buyers in that market will have to resort to buying the phone in other  markets and having it shipped in. The good news is the LG V10 is an unlocked device and should support use on most Canadian carriers.

Scientists create gold nuggets that are 98 percent air

Researchers at ETH Zurich have accomplished a bit of modern-day alchemy, transforming 20 carat gold into a lightweight foam. Well, technically it’s an aerogel: an exceedingly light and porous matrix of material. It’s so porous, in fact, that the foam doesn’t conduct electricity because, at atmospheric pressure, the gold atoms within the structure don’t actually touch. “The so-called aerogel is a thousand times lighter than conventional gold alloys. It is lighter than water and almost as light as air,” Raffaele Mezzenga, Professor of Food and Soft Materials at ETHZ, said in a statement.

Another Nokia C1 render pops up, this time showing Android and Windows 10 versions

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

Despite not being able to re-enter the smartphone market for another few months thanks to an agreement with Microsoft, Nokia has already had its fair share of rumours associated with it. The most prominent rumours centre around a device called the Nokia C1, for which several leaked photos and renders have emerged. The latest Nokia C1 render that has surfaced appears to show a slightly different camera position – note the corner mounted camera as opposed to the centre mounted ones in previous leaks – but that’s not even the most interesting thing about this picture.

Nokia C1 renderIf this picture happens to be true (and we will note that we’re pretty suspicious that it might not be completely legitimate), it would appear that the Nokia C1 could have two variants – one that runs Android, and one that runs Windows 10. We’ve known about Nokia’s Android aspirations ever since their first Android experiment, the Nokia X, and subsequently the pretty excellent Nokia N1 tablet, however it seems Nokia’s familiarity with the Windows platform could mean it isn’t quite done with Microsoft just yet. Of course, this is all conjecture at this point, but the evidence is mounting that the Nokia C1 is a legitimate project in the wings at Nokia.

NASA to test sugary bacteria as space-based power source

Following its successful harvest of red leaf lettuce, NASA has announced plans to launch genetically engineered bacteria into orbit to see if they can be harnessed by future astronauts as potent survival resource. The experiment is scheduled to take place in 2017 and will study the genus Anabaena. The sugars that these cyanobacterium photosynthesize can be fed to other genetically-modified bacteria in a system the agency calls PowerCell. These second-stage bacteria would, in turn, generate chemicals, food, fuel and even medicine for far-flung astronauts. “The first pilgrims who came to the Americas didn’t bring all their food for the rest of their lives,” Lynn Rothschild of NASA’s Ames Research Center, said in a statement. “You need to live off the land.”
