Twitter's IPO Filing Implies $12.8 Billion Value Amid Growth

The feature is currently only available for apps running Twitter Kit for iOS8+ but the company is also reportedly releasing an Android version “shortly.”

TiVo’s ad-skipping tech is coming to its older Roamio DVRs

TiVo Bolt screenshot showing "SkipMode" ad-skipping prompt

It looks like TiVo Roamio owners won’t need to buy an upgraded box for the new SkipMode feature. Zatz Not Funny points out info on TiVo’s website promising SkipMode will come to older Roamio DVRs on December 10th, which the company confirmed in a statement to Engadget. Starting today, a software update is going out that enabled QuickMode sped-up viewing on the Roamio. Meanwhile, a limited test will only let older boxes in the Bay Area and Chicago access SkipMode, for now (it’s available nationwide on the Bolt). In case you’re not familiar, SkipMode lets users bypass ad breaks on selected shows (prime time broadcasts on certain national networks) just by pressing the green button on their remote. At least so far, it has avoided any legal issues seen by Dish Network’s Hopper technology, and hopefully will continue to work as advertised. When I reviewed the Bolt, I found my favorite way to use it was skipping any stray seconds recorded before a show starts, so I could leap to the actual beginning.

Hilton confirms hackers swiped payment info from its hotels

Hilton Waldorf Astoria Sold

If you’ve stayed at one of Hilton’s hotels in the past year, you might want to check your credit card history. The chain has confirmed a report that hackers compromised its payment systems, putting your data at risk. The intruders got in between November 18th and December 5th in 2014, and between April 21st and July 27th this year. They didn’t get home addresses or PIN codes, but they did get card numbers, security codes and names — enough that they could potentially make purchases.

Every use of Android Pay will donate $1 to children with special needs

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

Google is well known for its philanthropy, but it’s latest campaign hopes to donate to children with special needs as well as increase usage of their new Android Pay payment system. Available now throughout the US, Android Pay joins a long list of payment systems that are trying to take off at the same time – to make their payment option a little more attractive, Google is instituting a campaign which will donate $1 for every use of Android Pay to special needs education projects. Google collaborated on this campaign with DonorsChoose.org which helps to support the 6.4 million children with special needs in the US.

Google also says that if you use Android Pay on Black Friday, they will double their donation. All-in-all, Google is willing to donate up $1 million USD through this campaign which lasts till December 31st, a substantial donation to a cause that sees many teachers digging into their own pockets to provide the resources and care that their students need. There’s likely no better reason to start using Android Pay, so if you’re in the US and have a compatible device, make sure you spend big this Holiday season.

QardioArm Smart Blood Pressure Monitor Now Available in Apple Retail Stores

Qardio today announced that its QardioArm Smart Blood Pressure Monitor is rolling out to Apple retail stores around the world. As of this week, the QardioArm is available in more than 30 countries, including the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, with the accessory set to roll out to the United States and additional countries in the near future.

The QardioArm is a Bluetooth-connected blood pressure monitor that’s able to deliver real-time data on blood pressure to an accompanying iPhone app. It measures both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, along with heart rate, and it is able to detect irregular heartbeats. It has been approved by the FDA and its accuracy is clinically validated to meet U.S. and European standards.

qardioarm

Powered by 4 AAA batteries, the QardioArm measures in at 2.7 x 1.5 x 5.5 inches, making it small enough for travel. The accompanying app includes features for setting goals and reminders, tracking irregularities, and more, plus it can deliver information to the Apple Health app on the iPhone.

“We are very happy to extend our working relationship with Apple into retail. Qardio and Apple share a vision that brings together technical excellence with beautiful design and a delightful user experience. QardioArm embodies that vision: a medical-grade blood pressure monitor that actually makes people want to take control of their heart health and helps them do so,” said Alexis Zervoglos, Chief Business Officer. “We are excited to be reaching more people than ever and to be building further on our many successes.”

The QardioArm joins several other health-related iPhone-connected products Apple offers, like the iHealth Wireless Blood Glucometer, the Swaive Thermometer, the Withings Wireless Blood Pressure Monitor, and the iHealth Wireless Pulse Oximeter.

As part of a Black Friday promotion, Qardio is currently selling the QardioArm at a 20 percent discount on its website, dropping the price from $99 to $79.20. Until the discount ends, those looking to purchase a QardioArm can get a better deal from Qardio than through the Apple Store.

Google will give $1 for special ed every time you use Android Pay

After Android Pay’s slow rollout throughout the US, it’s finally available to everyone — well, those with a compatible device anyway. In the spirit of giving (or trying to get more people using the service), Google has teamed up with DonorsChoose.org to support special needs children in US schools. Through December 31st, Google will donate $1 for every purchase made through Android Pay, with a total of up to $1 million. The idea is to create an interactive classroom environment so kids who struggle to engage aren’t left out. What’s more, Android Pay will double its donations for every purchase made on Black Friday. As if you needed another reason to spend big on the most insane shopping day of the year.

Amazon Video gets a bunch of new features on iOS

Amazon has released a ton of new features for its Video app. The update includes 3D touch support, Next Up (which is basically auto-play), picture-in-picture and X-Ray, which offers a wealth of IMDB information and trivia at the touch of a button. Even though some of these features are iPad exclusive (like picture-in-picture) they can help Amazon stand up against competition like Netflix when content alone won’t carry the day. The 3D touch option is only available on Apple’s latest smartphone offerings, the 6s and 6s Plus, and lets you access a number of features faster, but offers nothing in the way of exclusive functionality. Also, the app has been customized for the iPad Pro, meaning Amazon-exclusive content is bigger and better than it’s ever been before. What more could you ask for?
