The Moto G 2014 begins receiving Marshmallow update as part of Motorola’s Soak Test
Motorola often releases builds of the latest version of Android for their devices via its ‘Soak Testing’ program, which allows device owners to enjoy the latest software features while finding and reporting any bugs with the firmware. There’s some good news if you’ve previously registered your Moto G 2014 (reviewed here) for a Soak Test as it seems that Android 6.0 Marshmallow is headed your way.
The Android 6.0 Marshmallow Soak Test is a 461MB download and began appearing on registered Moto G 2014 handsets yesterday. The Soak Test should bring Marshmallow features such as Google on Tap, native fingerprint support, Doze, and granular app permissions to name a few. As yet, no one has captured the OTA URL, so only Moto G 2014 handsets registered for the Soak Test are capable of receiving the Marshmallow firmware to test. Knowing the XDA forums, though, this state of affairs won’t last too long.
