Sonnet Announces Availability of Long-Delayed Echo 15+ Thunderbolt 2 Dock
Sonnet this week announced the launch of its long-awaited Echo 15+ Thunderbolt 2 Dock, which is a 16-port docking station compatible with all Mac and Windows computers that feature Thunderbolt ports. It offers four USB 3.0 Ports, two 6Gb/s eSata ports, a FireWire 800 port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, two 3.5mm audio inputs, two 3.5mm audio outputs, and two Thunderbolt 2 ports.
A drive bay with 6Gb/s interfaces for one 3.5 inch or two 2.5-inch internal SATA drives is included, with support for SSD speeds of up to 750 MB/s. The USB 3.0 ports included in the dock provide 7.5 watts of power each for charging iPads, iPhones, and other electronic devices even when a computer is turned off.
The Echo 15+ also includes a built-in optical drive, and users are able to choose from an 8x DVD+/-RW drive, a Blu-ray BD-ROM/8x DVD+/-RW drive with Blu-ray player software for OS X, or a Blu-ray burner 4x BD-R/8x DVD+/-RW drive. Using an optical Thunderbolt cable and Sonnet’s Thunderbolt 2 expansion systems, the Echo 15+ can be connected to computer equipment located up to 60 meters away.
According to Sonnet, the Echo 15+’s aluminum case is sturdy enough to support the latest 27-inch iMac or a comparable display up to 34 inches.
“The Echo 15+ is the ultimate docking station for users to connect every device they need, including current and legacy devices — even the latest Ultra HD 4K displays — and expand their storage for backup or increased capacity in a single desktop device that connects to their computer with a Thunderbolt cable,” said Greg LaPorte, vice president of sales and marketing, Sonnet Technologies. “With the option to add internal storage supporting data transfer rates of up to 750 MB/s, as well as the ability to read from and write to optical media including Blu-rayTM Disc, Sonnet’s Echo 15+ Thunderbolt 2 Dock is the go-to station for flexible connectivity.”
Sonnet first announced the Echo 15 Thunderbolt docking station in April of 2013 and began accepting pre-orders at that time. Following the launch of Thunderbolt 2, the dock was delayed in early 2014 as Sonnet decided to upgrade the device to support it, and nearly two years after that, the dock is finally ready.
Pricing on the Echo 15+ Thunderbolt 2 Dock starts at $469 for the version with a DVD+/-RW Drive and goes up to $999 for the version with a Blu-ray Burner and two included 500GB SSDs. The dock can be purchased from the Sonnet website.

HTC prepares to push Google’s November security update to the One A9
When the One A9 was announced last month, HTC received a lot of attention for committing to timely software updates. The company stated that the One A9, its current flagship, would receive software updates within fifteen days of Google’s Nexus devices. Being that fifteen days is an extremely short amount of time, many are concerned that HTC will not be able to execute. HTC previously committed to ninety days in the past and even that was troublesome for the company. But HTC is set to push out the November security patch as soon as possible.
An HTC stated the following:
“We expect the software update with Google’s November security patches to receive TA (Technical Acceptance) later toady and roll out to customers immediately thereafter.”
The November security update did reach Nexus devices more than fifteen days ago; therefore, HTC already missed its self-imposed deadline. Still, HTC deserves praise because no other company is pushing software updates with comparable speed. Devices from Samsung and LG won’t see Marshmallow until 2016 and even Motorola’s flagship Moto X Pure Edition is currently lacking the latest version of Android.

Rose Gold color option added to the Huawei Watch
Arguably the best Android Wear device ever released now has yet another new color option to offer to prospective buyers. On Thursday, Huawei introduced a Rose Gold variant of its smartwatch that has both real sapphire crystal and gold. This Huawei Watch variant comes with a case made of 22K rose gold and an alligator-pressed brown leather strap.
Through Huawei directly, you can get this variant for $699. The company also offers it for $41.87 per month through Affirm Financing. Huawei says that quantities of the Huawei Watch in Rose Gold are limited. So it probably won’t make reach the company’s upcoming Black Friday sale. If you miss out, there is the Nexus 6P-related promotion that’s ongoing.

There honestly shouldn’t be a soul alive that doesn’t have a copy of Michael Jackson’s major hit record, Thriller. The album was released in 1982 and was the biggest selling record in history. It was Michael’s 6th studio album was released on November 30th. It would stand as a solid reason that Google is offering up the 33 year old iconic record free of charge right now. The video for the title track of the album was basically a movie all on its own. Check it out if you haven’t ever seen it.

LG Watch Urbane LTE gets pulled globally, refunds underway

The LG Watch Urbane 2nd edition was a huge roll-out device for LG. I believe it was bundled in with a price cut for AT&T customers who purchased the LG V10, but I might be wrong. The latest watch from LG was to bring in LTE support with a separate SIM card that gives you connection for notifications, directions, calls and more without needing your phone with you too. Now customers are being notified that a ‘quality issue’ has put a stop to the devices roll-out and refunds for those that already purchased one are starting to be issued.
LG has acknowledged the issue, but aren’t stepping up to say what it is exactly. According to sources though, the quality issue directly relates to the watches day-to-day use of the watch. LG is now cancelling the rolling out of the 2nd gen watch on a global scale. From the sounds of it, they aren’t sure if they will even resume roll-outs or shipments of the watch at all in the future. We understand that you are currently reviewing our latest smartwatch; however, late in the quality assurance process for the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE, our engineers were made aware of a hardware issue which affects the day-to-day functionality of the device. After further investigation, the decision was made to cancel the rollout of the Urbane 2nd Edition LTE due to the complicated nature of the issue.
Whether the device will be available in the future will be decided at a later time. For now, our top priority is to ensure that only products that meet our very specific quality standards are available for purchase.

Samsung’s consumer Gear VR is available now for $99
We knew it was coming, but now it’s finally here. Samsung’s newly improved virtual reality headset, the Gear VR, is launching today in the US for $99. This iteration of the Gear VR is, without a doubt, the most consumer-ready VR headset to date. One of its downsides is that it only works with Samsung’s latest smartphones, such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+ — but that’s great news for people who own handsets. As you may recall, Samsung’s Gear VR is powered by Oculus software, and services like Hulu have already announced compatibility with the device. If you’re Stateside, you can grab the Gear VR now from retailers including Amazon and Best Buy. As for worldwide availability, an Oculus spokesperson says that will be announced “soon.”

Virtual reality shooter ‘Gunjack’ is ready for Samsung’s Gear VR
Just in time for today’s launch of Samsung’s consumer Gear VR, developer and publisher CCP is making Gunjack available for the headset. The virtual reality game, powered by Unreal Engine 4, is an arcade shooter that takes places in the EVE sci-fi universe. Once you strap in, you’ll play the role of a gun turret operator, with the goal being to protect your mothership from some menacing pirates. In an interview earlier this year, Gunjack’s producer told us that the title was different from Valkyrie, CCP’s upcoming VR dogfighting simulator, as it required to be developed from the ground-up and with mobile gaming in mind.
