Google Camera version 3.1 update brings new interface for devices running Marshmallow

If you’ve been keeping up with our coverage on the Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X, you may have noticed that the two new devices’ camera applications look a tad different than what’s found on the Nexus 5 or 6. If you’re the owner of a Nexus phone that’s running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and have become envious of this new camera UI, we have some good news for you. The Google Camera app is getting updated to version 3.1, bringing the revamped interface to all devices running Marshmallow.

With the new interface, switching between camera and video modes is a breeze – simply swipe right to switch to video mode, or swipe left for the camera. The new UI also makes it much easier to toggle the flash, timer mode and HDR+. All of the other camera options – Photo Sphere, Panorama, Lens Blur and Settings – are tucked away in an invisible hamburger menu found on the left side of the screen.

The new UI is about all you’ll get, though. The slow motion and burst shot modes that are normally found on the 6P and 5X aren’t included in the new update, which is definitely something we were hoping to see.
