Many parts of the world are starting to enter the colder months of the year. It’s time to pack on extra layers and stay warm! Going about town, you’re probably wearing a hat and gloves to keep every inch of your body cozy. The problem with bundling up is that using your mobile devices can become a hassle. Just checking your phone or tablet in cold weather requires you to readjust. Hats are covering your ears from taking calls and most gloves aren’t compatible with touchscreens. It’s time you avoid the hassle by picking up the Bluetooth Beanie & Touchscreen Gloves Bundle from Talk Android Deals.

These items, both designed by TRNDlabs, are being sold for $98 elsewhere. Talk Android Deals is able to bring you this bundle for $34.99 with free shipping. TensorFlow machine learning code open-sourced by Google

tensorflow_logo

If you appreciate the speed and ability of Google products to do things like translate signs on the fly or find pictures in your Google Photos library, then you may be pleased to know that capability may start to spread throughout the computer systems and apps you use on a daily basis. The possibility for this is thanks to a decision by Google to open source their TensorFlow machine learning system.

Google is moving quickly into areas dominated by artificial intelligence, with machine learning being a big piece of that. They recently revealed their RankBrain AI engine is improving search results for users and they recently updated their Inbox app with a smart reply feature that draws on the TensorFlow code.

TensorFlow is Google’s latest version of machine learning code, following their DistBelief system. When Google started building TensorFlow, one of their aims was to make it more scalable and to disconnect it from a heavy reliance on Google’s infrastructure. The new codebase ended up being portable and is capable of running on hardware ranging from clusters of super powerful servers to a typical smartphone.

The freedom presented by these design decisions enabled Google to open-source the TensorFlow code. In the spirit of open-source code, Google hopes that access and use by researchers, engineers and even hobbyists will result in even better machine learning capabilities in the future. For end users, that means technology will work even better than it does now.

Xiaomi’s new activity tracker has a heart rate monitor, costs $15

xiaomi_mi_band_pulse_

Activity trackers, depending on the maker, can be pricey and getting every desired feature can lead to you spending over $100. Xiaomi, though, doesn’t believe it takes so much to produce a capable device. The company launched the Mi Band in July 2014 as a wearable that tracks activity and monitors sleep, costing just $14. Today, Xiaomi has a new model that adds in a feature that usually adds a hefty premium. The Mi Band Pulse has a built-in heart rate monitor while still carrying an extremely low price tag.

xiaomi_mi_band_pulse_pink_blue

Overall, the Mi Band Pulse looks very similar to its predecessor. The main design differences between the two is that this model is thicker and sturdier. The extra thickness comes from the heart rate monitor and a 45mAh battery into it that should last around twenty days. Still though, the Mi Band Pulse is resistant to both water and dust, being credited with IP67 certification. Xiaomi wants people to wear the Mi Band Pulse everywhere they go without ever taking it off.

Connecting through Bluetooth 4.0, support is open to any Android device with Android 4.4 KitKat and above. Owners of an iOS device can also use the Mi Band Pulse as long as they are running iOS 7 and above. Then, with the dedicated Mi Fit app (that syncs with Google Fit), all of your data is organized in a single location.

The Mi Band Pulse is priced at $15, but Xiaomi has not said when the activity tracker will be available in the United States. People in China can buy the Mi Band Pulse on Wednesday, November 11, when the country celebrates its Singles Day. The original Mi Band will see its price drop to $10 upon the arrival of the Mi Band Pulse.

Leaked images show off the design of Samsung’s second generation Galaxy A3 and A5

galaxy a3 a5 leakSome new photos have leaked showcasing the design of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy A3 and A5. The original A3, A5, and A7 phones fit into Samsung’s midrange portfolio, and that’s probably where we’ll see the second generation devices sit, too.

The biggest takeaway here is that the Galaxy A3 and A5, if these leaked photos end up being accurate, both look like the Galaxy S6. Samsung really make a great looking phone with the S6, so it makes sense to see the design trickle down to other devices like this.

Everything from the edges of the phone to the camera placement and home button are nearly identical to Samsung’s 2015 flagship, although there’s no heart rate monitor on the back of the device.

We still haven’t seen the Galaxy A7, but if this is what the other two models look like it’s probably a safe bet to assume the A7 will use the S6 design language as well. It’s been over a year since Samsung announced the original models, so we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to get something official on these new phones.

Google engineer explains why your Nexus 5X is taking upside down photos

nexus_5x_camera_fingerprint_scanner_closeup_TAIf you’ve been playing with a Nexus 5X and third-party camera apps, you may have noticed some of them are shooting photos upside down. Weird, right? Well, it turns out it’s a pretty rare issue caused by how Google had to mount the camera sensor in the Nexus 5X to make everything fit.

The Nexus 5X has a camera sensor that’s mounted in reverse landscape, instead of the typical portrait orientation that everyone expects. To compensate for that weird orientation, Google’s new camera APIs account for that and keep things displaying the right way. Unfortunately, there are still many apps that use Android’s older API, and that’s where users are seeing problems.

The Nexus 6 actually saw some of these same problems at launch, but only with the front-facing camera. Since the front cam is less frequently used than the rear camera, it was less widespread than what we’re dealing with now.

The good news here is that your Nexus isn’t broken. You’ll just have to wait for app developers to update their applications to use Android’s newer API.

VW offers $1,000 in gift cards and vouchers to affected diesel owners

Volkswagen Wrestles With Diesel Emissions Crisis

Volkwagen’s attempt to compensate vehicle owners who drive one of the models included in the company’s emissions scandal is now official. The initial reports were indeed correct, as the company will offer $1,000 in gift cards and other incentives to VW customers. On top of a $500 dealership credit, the 482,000 diesel owners will also receive a $500 Visa gift card that can be used anywhere and free roadside assistance for three years. Audi customers who drive affected vehicles will be privy to the same “goodwill package,” too. Owners will have to visit a special website to request the items by entering their car’s VIN number and mileage alongside their name and address. Volkwagen says those customers should receive the package in a month. The company is already offering $2,000 in trade-in credit, and with today’s announcement, the total compensation for owners of vehicles included in the on-going saga can be worth up to $3,000.

Apple Releases tvOS 9.0.1 Update for Apple TV

Apple today released the first update to tvOS, the new operating system that runs on the fourth-generation Apple TV. tvOS 9.0.1 is a minor update that likely includes bug fixes and performance updates to address issues discovered since the launch of tvOS on October 30.

The new 9.0.1 update can be downloaded over-the-air through the Settings app on the Apple TV.

tvOS 9.0.1 comes as Apple is testing the first major update to the operating system, tvOS 9.1. Apple has thus far seeded one beta of tvOS 9.1 to developers, with release notes for that beta pointing towards improvements to networking and scrolling. tvOS 9.1 also appears to include support for Siri search for Apple Music.

New Apple TV Gains Limited Siri Support for Apple Music on tvOS 9.1 Beta

Apple recently confirmed that Siri is coming to Apple Music on the new Apple TV at the beginning of next year, but iDownloadBlog has discovered the virtual assistant can now be used for certain music-related commands on the latest tvOS 9.1 beta ahead of time.

Jeff Benjamin shared a video demo of Siri being used to search for songs, albums, artists and playlists on Apple Music from the Home screen on the new Apple TV, without needing to open the Apple Music app. Siri can also be used to play and pause Beats 1 radio.

MacRumors was able to replicate this functionality on the new Apple TV running tvOS 9.1 beta in the United States, but Siri did not always handle requests properly. Siri was also unable to complete music-related commands on tvOS 9.0 in our testing.

Apple will likely continue testing limited Siri support for Apple Music before making the feature publicly available in 2016, so the functionality may be spotty or unavailable entirely for some users.
