Huawei’s next chipset may give competitors a run for their money
Huawei is now Europe’s second largest Android brand, according to Kantar, but there’s just no time for celebration. Not too long after launching the Huawei Mate S and the Nexus 6P, the Chinese telecom giant is already teasing the launch of the Mate 8 on November 26. Little is known about this new smartphone so far, but it’ll likely be using Huawei’s upcoming Kirin 950 chipset announced today, which joins the Apple A9 chip to be one of the first to use TSMC’s 16nm FinFET Plus process for improved efficiency. Like its predecessor, the Kirin 950 has an octa-core processor but with much improved performance: 4 x Cortex-A72 and 4 x Cortex-A53 instead of the old mid-range offering of just eight Cortex-A53 cores. It also uses ARM’s flagship Mali-T880 GPU so gaming should be blast on the phone.
Google Drive update makes sharing files much more convenient

I don’t know about you, but in my case Google happens to have most of my information on its servers. It knows my contacts, locations, my most private conversations and it even has a full backup of my computer in Drive. This is why I am glad the Search Giant continues to make its services as secure as possible, but they must also be conveniently accessible.
The latest update to the Google Drive app puts a main focus in security and file sharing. The upgrade includes 3 improvements that will not only keep you more aware of your sharing settings, but also make it more convenient to access these. Let’s go through them one by one.
Mobile sharing notifications
Isn’t it annoying that notifications for shared files on Google Drive have been limited to email? I am not always checking my email, so it can be a bit inconvenient for me. The latest update fixes this issue by introducing notifications straight from the application.
Mobile notifications will immediately alert you when any file or folder has been shared with you. Just tap on it to access it! Easy as pie.

Requesting and granting access to files
You can share links to any file or folder within Google Drive, but so that does’t guarantee access to it. Maybe you just don’t want to give access to everyone with the link! This means you would still have to give other people specialized access to your documents, something that proved to be an annoying process in the past.
This is no more! Google is now allowing Android Drive users to request access to any Drive file with a single tap. In addition, file owners will get a notification straight from the app, which they can grant access to right away.

Preview files without a Google account (Android only)
Though here at Android Authority we are fans of Google’s services, we can understand not everyone is. Before today, mobile users weren’t able to preview files on their mobile Drive app. This was a bit of a nuisance, especially considering web previewing actually is accessible. Now mobile users can preview all they want.

Wrapping up
As always, these features are rolling out periodically, so you may not see them right away. But sit tight and be sure they are coming! Some of these are already heading out the door, though. Have you noticed any of the new features working yet?

Giffgaff ad shows people flying over iconic London landmarks
UK carrier giffgaff surprised the people of London with human shaped flying objects. The flying humans were part of a giffgaff ad to celebrate their new ‘no-ties’ approach to contracts.
The flying humans were seen flying past many iconic London landmarks such as the London Eye, Big Ben and Canary Wharf. This publicity stunt was also part of a larger advertising campaign called ‘hey you’, in which people are seen to inexplicably fly and float in the air.

Press Release:
LONDON, November 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ —
London commuters this morning had to double take, as strange human-shaped flying objects appeared across the London skyline. The activity celebrates mobile network giffgaff’s ‘no-ties’ approach to contracts and is timed to coincide with its recent ad campaign, entitled ‘hey you’, in which people are seen to inexplicably fly and float in the air.
Drifting across iconic London landmarks such as the London Eye, Big Ben and Canary Wharf, the human forms caused excited commuters to stop and look up at the sky, with many recording the moment on their mobile phones.
Created to amplify awareness of the TV ad, the activity perfectly encapsulates giffgaff’s sentiment of ‘we won’t tie you down’ – a statement referring to the award-winning company’s shunning of restrictive mobile phone contracts for its customers.
The most recent ‘hey you’ advert, which aired on October 16th, can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6qOQs92rLw&index=1&list=PLdjhV1bimcaXUzSY_OXWU_i4ls1_1Ingy

Google engineer takes on subpar USB Type-C cables
Trying to save a few bucks by purchasing offbrand cables? We’ve all done it — but there’s something you should know about new USB Type-C connectors popping up on cellphones (Nexus, OnePlus), laptops (Macbook, Pixel), tablets (Pixel C) and even Apple TV. The reason why they can charge so many devices, is their ability to transmit currents up to 3A, which could be 50 to 100 percent more electricity than older standards. That’s why Google engineer Benson Leung has been putting various USB-C cables sold on Amazon to the test. He worked on both of Google’s recent Pixel devices that use the new cable to charge, and found that many of the cables advertised as Type-C aren’t actually suited for use with the laptop. They might not be wired properly to charge a laptop, or they don’t accurately identify the power source — something that could damage your laptop, USB hub or charger.

The ‘Fallout 4’ Pip-Boy app is available right now
Attention future Commonwealth explorers: The Fallout 4 Pip-Boy app is available for you to download. Unlike the gap between the release of Fallout Shelter on Android and iOS, both versions are available right this very moment. More than just acting as a mobile menu setup, you can play any holotape games you find in Fallout 4 within the app (with what sounds like a version of Missile Command built in). Sounds cool, right? Well, now you’ve got another something to keep you busy until November 10th — even if you have an oversized phone.

360 Security – A lot of bang for zero bucks
Most antivirus apps do about one or two things and it usually revolves around your security. It’s interesting and unique when an antivirus app tries to do more to optimize your device and keep it safe, secure, and free of worries. 360 Security is an app that tries to do all of this and it does it rather well. Let’s take a closer look!

Functionality
So what does 360 Security actually do? For starters, it is an antivirus application and comes with a decent set of features. They include real-time scanning of your apps and files to find any potential problems, a scanner to find pre-existing problems, and it can detect adware, malware, trojans and more. The virus database is updated from the cloud pretty much whenever you want.
On top of that, it also has a cleanup function that will find old, forgotten, and otherwise useless files on your device. 360 Security will clear all of those out for you to help give you some extra space on your device. This functionality is extended to include apps as well. You can find and uninstall apps you don’t use to save on space and, sometimes, conserve battery.
There is also a boost function that clears out running apps. This is actually configurable so you can have some apps remain in memory. We recommend putting all of the apps you use frequently in the exceptions so that they don’t spend all day re-initializing and draining your battery. Otherwise, it seems to work as intended.

The app has a bunch of other features as well. One of our favorites was app locking. Using this feature, you can lock various apps to prevent access and you can set a pattern lock to keep it secure. It works as expected and you can configure which apps have the lock and which ones do not.
There is also a newer feature that allows you to block notifications from various apps. This functionality is actually built in to Lollipop and Marshmallow but for some, it’s nice to see apps doing it as well. You can configure which apps show you notifications and hides the others for your viewing later. This is great, especially for games that don’t know when to shut up.
Along with that, you get a call and SMS filter that will automatically block incoming SMS and phone calls from numbers and contacts you’ve assigned. This is a good way to get rid of repeat telemarketers and other various annoyances.
360 Security has several other additional features. They include an application manager to help you uninstall and view applications, a data monitor that lets you set your monthly limits to keep track of that, and a find-my-phone feature that is integrated with Google that will help you find your device.
It’s true that not everyone will find every single feature useful, but with the giant list of things available, there’s something in there for just about everyone.

The Good
Okay now that we know what it does, here’s what we liked about 360 Security:
- Pretty much everything you can do in this app is configurable and we really liked that. If you like a feature, you can configure it to your needs and if you don’t want a feature, you can opt not to use it. The whole thing is totally your call and nothing is forced on you which we really liked.
- The phone, SMS, and notification filters are really fun to play with. It’s nice getting those set up and knowing that when your phone goes off, it’s like because of something you actually want to interact with.
- The cleanup feature is nifty. A lot of apps have this one and 360 Security’s version works as well as any of them. It’s a good way to get rid of old, forgotten, or otherwise useless files to free up some storage.
- The antivirus security actually works and it’s quick and painless. During our tests, it found out the malware apps right away and uninstalling them was easy.
- The tertiary features all worked very well. In fact, during our testing, we didn’t run into one broken feature or force close. 360 Security as a whole is a very stable app.
- We also really liked that the find-my-phone feature was integrated with your Google account instead of trying to do its own thing. It’s so much easier this way and we appreciated the effort.
- It uses the Android design guidelines and it looks very good doing so. It is definitely a good looking app. It’s also totally free with no in-app purchases which is always a plus. The app appears to be supported by advertising.

The Bad
And here’s what we didn’t like so much:
- We loved that the boost feature is configurable so it doesn’t kill off apps that you use often. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come configured hardly at all and, depending on your usage, removing that many apps from memory can result in many of them popping right back up as you use your device. Continuously reloading apps this way can actually make your battery life worse if you don’t use it right depending on your use case.
- Many of the app’s best features are in the menus. It focuses on the boost, cleanup, and antivirus function. We would’ve liked to have seen the various filters, app lock, and the find-my-phone feature more prominently represented.
- As with any application with advertising, we would’ve liked to have seen a way to pay to remove ads. It’s a small thing since the ads generally aren’t intrusive and there are no pop ups anywhere, but having that option is always preferable.
- When you first run the app, 360 Security will place a few icons on your home screen. All of these features are available in the app so we don’t understand why they did this and it can be a little intrusive.

Final Thoughts
Overall, 360 Security is one of the best, if not the best, all-in-one optimization apps available today. It’s true that a few of the features require a bit of configuring to get them to work right and not everything is perfect, but the set of features that 360 Security delivers is quite impressive and the app itself is solid and stable.
If you want to try it out, click the button below. It currently rocks a 4.6 rating in the Google Play Store and has been downloaded by over 100 million people. We can see why that’s the case. It is totally free to use with no in-app purchases so there is no harm in trying it out for yourself.

Score a Pebble Time for $149.99 ($50 discount)

There’s plenty of smartwatches out there; some are fancy, some are flashy and some will do everything you can think of, but most also share a common caveat – their battery will run out in no time. This is why I am a huge fan of Pebble‘s wearables. Thanks to their simpler operation and resourceful e-ink displays, these bad boys can come close to a full week of usage on a single charge!
The newer Pebble Time even has a color e-paper panel that makes things a little more fun without sacrificing on battery, but it doesn’t come too cheap at $199.99. If you have been hoping to get a deal on it, be sure to take advantage of today’s. In fact, this may be the best deal we have seen on the Pebble Time!

Both Amazon and the official Pebble site are now selling the Time for $50 off, making the final price a very convenient $149.99. This specific gadget managed to get a 9/10 score in our review, so you best be sure it is worth your… time. In fact, we found very little to complain about. Our main gripes are the thicker bezel and the lack of attractive replacement bands.
We are not sure when a similar deal will show up, so if you have been looking for a smartwatch with formidable battery life, you best take advantage of this offer. We also don’t know if this price cut is temporal or not, but I would assume it is. Who’s signing up?

Circle with Disney makes it easy to control your kids’ screen time
When I was younger, I had a friend whose dad would shut down their house’s internet connection every 12AM without fail. He’d love Circle with Disney if his children were still kids. It’s a cube (despite its name) that pairs up with your WiFi network and gives you the power to control your kids’ internet activities. The device’s creator, Jelani Memory, originally tried to raise funds via Kickstarter a couple of years ago, but the campaign didn’t reach its goal. It turned out to be, as Memory told Wired, “a really great failure,” because the startup found a powerful partner in Disney.
