Google’s Android OS celebrates 8th birthday today
Eight years ago today, Google put forward the Android mobile operating system. Only years later, it became the world’s most adopted mobile OS, and it still remains on top by a significant margin today.
Can you believe it has already been eight years since Google announced the Android operating system? What started as a small project is now the most widely used mobile operating system worldwide. Mainly due in part by manufacturers such as Samsung, LG, Huawei, HTC, Motorola, Sony and tens of others. What started as cupcake is now through Marshmallow and has evolved more than I can begin to explain since its initial launch. When comparing what Android used to be and what it’s now, one can have a hard time realizing they’re actually the same system. What used to be a basic system with a few important functions is now a full-fledged operating system that reaches across billions of devices worldwide. Additionally, just over the past few years, Android-based operating systems such as Android Auto, Android Wear and others have expanded the Android ecosystem to cars, wearables and even glasses.
Just this year we witnessed a switch in roles for Google and the creation of a parent company called Alphabet. With 2016 up ahead, Android seeks to hit more places around your home and put some of the world’s most powerful handhelds in the palm of your hand. We should also see Android N make its arrival mid-year, which has got millions wondering what’s next? We are so excited to see what Google has up its sleeve for next year and we’ll have you covered with all the news inside the world of Android as history is made.
