Samsung patents another foldable device, this time with remarkably detailed folding mechanism
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
As far back as 2013, we’ve been hearing about the possibility of foldable devices – Samsung adamantly claimed in November 2013 that there would be foldable devices in 2015. Now that we’re in the tail end of 2015, that eventuality is seeming less and less likely with every month, however that hasn’t stopped Samsung filing more patents to flesh out such a device. A new patent that was submitted in February 2015 has just come up, and unlike Samsung’s previous patent descriptions that were relatively vague, this one describes the very detailed intricacies of the foldable device hinge and how it all goes together. Check out a few of the figures provided by Patently Mobile:
It’s a wonderfully complicated design, but it’s probably the closest we’ve seen to something that could actually be a marketable product at some point. We’ve heard that Samsung has had a foldable device called Project Valley in development for quite some time now, but since that story we’ve had very little indication that Samsung has continued working on the device. Even so, we’re holding out hope that Samsung’s still in the mood for some pretty extravagant innovation and ends up releasing a foldable device in the near future.

iPhone Pre-Order Shipping Estimates Begin Slipping to 2-3 Weeks, Led by Rose Gold iPhone 6s Plus
Pre-order supplies of the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus in the United States are starting to dwindle a bit since pre-orders kicked off at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time, with several of the new iPhone models now displaying shipping estimates of 2-3 weeks. Models in the new Rose Gold color are the most heavily affected, particularly in the United States.
In the United States, Rose Gold T-Mobile iPhone 6s Plus models in 64 GB and 128 GB capacities slipped to 2-3 weeks very soon after pre-orders began, and more recently the following models have also moved to 2-3 weeks as of 2:00 AM Pacific Time:
– Rose Gold AT&T 64 GB iPhone 6s Plus
– Rose Gold AT&T 128 GB iPhone 6s Plus
– Rose Gold Verizon 64GB iPhone 6s Plus
– Rose Gold Verizon 128 GB iPhone 6s Plus
– Rose Gold T-Mobile 16 GB iPhone 6s Plus
– Rose Gold T-Mobile 64 GB iPhone 6s
– Space Gray T-Mobile 128 GB iPhone 6s Plus
Slipped shipping estimates in Apple’s online stores for other countries such as the UK, Australia, and Germany are a bit more varied, with a few more models in other colors moving to 2-3 weeks, although Rose Gold is again the most common variety to see the later estimates. The UK in particular is seeing extended shipping, as nearly all iPhone 6s Plus models with the exception of a few 16 GB models are now listed at 2-3 weeks.
Customers placing orders for one of these models with 2-3 week estimates could see their deliveries pushed into October considering transit times of several days following shipment.
While pre-order supplies of some models of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are beginning to sell out, it may still be possible to get one of these iPhones on launch day by visiting an Apple retail location on Friday, September 25, depending on stock levels.
The iPhone 6s is available in 16, 64, and 128 GB capacities in the United States for $199, $299, and $399, respectively, with a two-year contract. Contract-free pricing begins at $649. Apple’s higher-priced iPhone 6 Plus is available in 16, 64, and 128 GB capacities for $299, $399, and $499, respectively, with a two-year contract. Contract-free pricing on the larger-screened device starts at $749.
iPhone 6s and 6s Plus pre-orders are live
It’s that magical time of year where adults sit awake at their computers in the middle of the night (or with an iDevice and the Apple Store app open) in an effort to snag the latest iPhones. Pre-orders have gone live for Cupertino’s latest handsets, the 6s and 6s Plus, and if you’re hoping to get one for that first-wave September 25th availability date you’d better act fast. After all, 3D Touch isn’t going to wait around for everyone. So! Best to head over to Apple’s website or the aforementioned mobile app and get to punching in your credit card info. The questions now are big or small; space grey, gold or rose gold and if you’re going to go for Apple’s Upgrade Program or not. Better make your mind up rather quick-like — Fallout fans, at least, have one less decision to make.

iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus Now Available for Pre-Order
Apple is now accepting pre-orders for the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus through its online storefront and through the Apple Store app. Pre-orders are available in first wave launch countries including the United States, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, the UK, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, and Singapore.
All of the major U.S. carriers, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile, are accepting pre-orders for the new devices, but online pre-orders are not available from retailers like Best Buy, Target, and Walmart.
We haven’t heard rumors pointing towards supply constraints for the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus, but it’s best to make an order right away if possible. In past years, iPhone supplies have dwindled significantly following the kickoff of pre-orders, and with last year’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, 6 Plus supplies sold out quickly.
Both the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus come in 16, 64, and 128GB configurations, with four color options: Silver, Space Gray, Gold, and Rose Gold.
iPhone 6s pricing in the U.S. starts at $199 with a two-year carrier contract, with the 64 and 128GB models priced at $299 and $399, respectively. Without a contract, the iPhone 6s in 16/64/128GB is priced at $649/$749/$849.
iPhone 6s Plus pricing in the U.S. starts at $299 with a two-year carrier contract, with the 64 and 128GB models priced at $399 and $499, respectively. Without a contract, the iPhone 6s Plus in 16/64/128GB is priced at $749/$849/$949.
Customers who wish to make a purchase through Apple’s new U.S. iPhone Upgrade Program will need to make an online reservation for an in-store appointment. Reservations are available now.
In-store sales of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will begin on Friday, September 25, which is the official launch day for the new devices.
Latest Samsung ad takes a swing at the new iPhone
Never one to shy away from a publicity opportunity, Samsung have taken the opportunity of the new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus release to add to the ongoing battle between the two companies and their smartphones.
In Samsung’s latest TV advertisement, the company highlight the lack of major features on Apple’s new flagship device and take the opportunity to highlight Samsung’s wireless charging. There’s also a twist on Apple’s latest “if it’s not an iPhone, it’s not an iPhone” tagline, to which Samsung responds with “it’s not a phone, it’s a Galaxy.”
The theme of the whole advert is summed up when the text “time to let go” appears on the screen, indicating that Samsung feel the latest Apple offerings just don’t meet the level of expectation of the market Samsung.
What do you think?

Apple’s Jony Ive gets his panties in a bunch over a puppet soundboard
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me.
I guess Apple’s lead designer Jony Ive never heard this nursery rhyme before.
If you don’t know who Jony Ive is, now is the time to come out from under that rock and learn that he is the Chief Design Officer of Apple, the most valuable company in the world. He has been credited with designing the iPhone, iPad, Macbook, and iPod amongst many other incredible products. He’s a British Knight(which I think is super cool), award winning designer and Honorary Fellow. Jony has set the course for the design of many products we use today.
Sadly, he is also too cool to let people make fun of him. I guess his successes allow him to cry over little old normal people who decide to poke fun at him. Amy Hoy and Thomas Fuchs, both now famous, are credited with creating a puppet and soundboard of Jony Ive that went viral after yesterday’s Apple event.
After gaining much attention with the soundboard and puppet, Hoy and Fuchs got a phone call from Apple’s big and bad lawyers asking that she take the soundboard down. Apparently Ive was offended.
“We’re fans,” Hoy says. “Jony Ive was just supposed to be silly fun. Like, my friends tease me about my chair addiction. We teased Jony about his dramatic delivery. Wink wink, nudge nudge. It was never meant to be mean. There was no legal threat, just a personal request. So… we took it down.”
Sure, I know Ive is way cooler than I will ever be in a million lifetimes. He has more money than I can even imagine. The dude gets to call himself a knight! If I were a knight, I would definitely carry a sword.
But come on, grow some skin. You’re famous. People respect you. Let them have some fun.
This type of behavior definitely proves to me that Apple now cares more about looks and keeping a good image than letting their work define who they are. I sure do miss the days of my personal hero, Steve Jobs, who is credited with being a revolutionary. Back when Jobs created the iPhone, iOS, and the App Store, amongst other things, Apple actually did revolutionize the world and their products spoke volumes about who they were.
The iPhone modernized the smartphone and brought it to the masses. There was absolutely zero need to make up new terms like “Retina display(HD),” “3D Touch(force touch),” “ion-hardened glass(Gorilla glass),” or “the Pencil(stylus).” Sadly Apple likes to steal products that already exist and rename them like they created them. I bet at their next event they rename the wheel to the Apple Round, and they also come up with some new name for sliced bread(I couldn’t come up with a funny term, so put some suggestions down in the comments for others to laugh at).
It is now more clear than ever that Apple needs marketing tricks and stunts to fool their customers into believing they own the best products.
I used to be a huge Apple fanboy, because at one point they actually were better. I sure do miss Steve. We were a much better world with him than without, and I sure do miss the real competition that pushed Google to do great things.
As big as Steve Jobs was in this world, he was still a human. I remember emailing him about my disappointment in the direction Apple was going, and he actually emailed me back, TWICE. Sure it could have been some employee who had access to the email account, but I do believe it was him. Boy, do I miss those days when Apple was great.
I know this is an Android website and this post really isn’t relavent to Android, but many of us Android fans used to be fans of Apple at one point and most likely share the same sentiment.
Read this post while you can. There’s a chance it might get taken down because Apple doesn’t like it.
At least we have good ol’ Google.

Former Mt. Gox CEO officially charged with embezzlement
Mt. Gox is a sordid story seemingly refuses to die. Last we heard, the bitcoin exchange’s CEO Mark Karpeles had been arrested by Tokyo police, and some six weeks later he’s been charged with pilfering 321 million yen (around $2.7 million) of former clients’ money according to Reuters. Apparently he spent it on a custom-built bed and buying the rights for computer software development. Why the gap between arrest and now? Well, Japan grants that sort of holding even without formal charges. As the AFP Newswire tells it, Karpeles is still being held by Japanese authorities, but he can petition the court for “release pending trial.” We’ll have to wait and see if he exercises that right.

Continuing its Android crusade, Microsoft has bought Echo Notification Lockscreen
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Microsoft has made many significant moves to cement its place as one of the top developers of Android apps recently, and in the latest example of this new crusade, Microsoft has bought Echo Notification Lockscreen, a custom lockscreen app that has somewhere in the vicinity of 1,000,000-5,000,000 downloads on the Google Play Store and a great rating to boot. Chief Experience Officer at Microsoft, Julie Larson-Green, expressed Microsoft’s urge to fix something it sees as a problem with lock screens on all smart devices and the notifications that are shown on it.
“It’s a list of what apps want you to know, not necessarily what’s important to you.”
And Microsoft isn’t just working on the Echo Notification Lockscreen to improve Android – Larson-Green says that improving it in its standalone form first means that when it is refined to the level Microsoft wants, it can be integrated into Windows 10 and Microsoft’s whole ecosystem, without the risk of having it around half-finished. You can really start to see that Microsoft has a much bigger vision for its ecosystem than just Windows 10, one day extending it to Android the same way it would extend it to Windows Phones.

Xbox One’s upcoming overhaul has an opt-in beta

That new Windows 10 Xbox One update sounds pretty great, right? Well, how it works is a little different than folks in the console’s Dashboard Preview Program are used to. Previous updates were pushed out automatically and you had no choice over installing them, but here you can choose as to whether or not jump into this massive overhaul. Xbox spokesperson Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb says that Preview members will get a message in their system’s inbox and you’ll need to register and opt-in from there. But if you’re not quite sure about being even more of a guinea pig that’s totally okay: You can choose to not participate in the double preview and still get the regular dashboard updates ahead of the general public.
Hryb also says that you can expect more builds of the Win10 dash to hit as kinks are worked out ahead of the full launch. Invites for this beta will go out in waves, and Hyrb says to be patient if you don’t see one pop up just yet. Until then? Maybe grind through some more Destiny ahead of “The Taken King” arriving next week.

First Unboxing of New Apple TV Shows off Packaging, Device and Remote
Despite not arriving until the end of October, YouTuber Andru Edwards has gotten ahold of the fourth-generation Apple TV and unboxed it on video. The video, which appears to be the first unboxing of the device, offers a glimpse at the new packaging for Apple’s new set-top box.
The new Apple TV’s packaging is all-black and features a picture of the top of the device on the top of the box. Once opened, the user is presented with the Apple TV box and the brand new Siri Remote. Underneath those are a Lightning cable to charge the new remote and a power cable.
Edwards, who says he received his Apple TV on the day of Apple’s “Hey Siri” event, then provides a closer look at both the set-top box and remote.
The fourth-generation Apple TV will be available at the end of October. It’ll be priced at $149.99 for the 32 GB option and $199.99 for the 64 GB option.
