Motorola Moto 360 2nd Generation gets pricing and goes up for pre-order

With IFA 2015 in Berlin rapidly approaching, and the expected launch of the 2nd Generation Motorola Moto 360 smartwatch, MobileFun have made pre-orders of the device available and have announced their pricing.

The Moto 360 2nd Generation is expected to be offered in 3 different variations: the first is sized at 46.5mm with a cognac leather band which is available for $392.49, and a smaller variant of the watch for $326.99 – one in dark stainless steel and the other in light stainless steel.

Motorola Moto 360 2nd Gen – Cognac Leather – $392.49

Motorola Moto 360 2nd Gen – Light Stainless Steel – $326.99

Motorola Moto 360 2nd Gen – Dark Stainless Steel – $326.99

The larger variant of the Moto 360 2nd Gen comes with a bigger 375mAh battery, whilst the smaller one comes with a 270mAh battery.

We’ve already seen the smartwatch in all its glory taking a stroll round Chicago and can see that the wake button has been moved to the 2 o’clock position, presumably to avoid accidental presses. The ‘flat tyre’ on the Moto 360 2nd Gen still remains so for those hoping for a fully-circular display will have to look elsewhere.

Will you be pre-ordering the Moto 360 2nd Gen?

Facebook’s Moments app now automatically creates movies from your photos

Facebook’s relatively new Moments app started life as a way to privately share photos with friends — it groups pictures you’ve taken into, well, moments and then suggests you share them with your Facebook friends who are in the pictures. Today, Facebook is releasing the app’s first major update, and the headlining new feature is that the app can now auto-generate video collages based on your groups of photos. By default, any moment with six or more photos will automatically have a short video generated from the pictures; you can customize it by changing the soundtrack (there are 11 different music options), adding or removing photos and tagging your friends.

If the Moments app isn’t smart enough to know what photos you want grouped together, you can of course create your own from scratch. And while Moments has historically only shared photos directly between friends, you can share these videos out to your Facebook page directly. It’s not a revolutionary new feature — Google Photos has created “Auto Awesome” movies and collages from your photos for some time now — but it’s still a smart way to help people get more milage out of the many photos that they take.

There are a few other changes included in today’s update. Facebook added support for 34 languages, and the app is now available globally, with the notable exception of Canada and the European Union (the latter because of Facebook’s face-detection software). If you want to try out the updated app, you can download it now in Apple’s App Store and in Google Play.

Cablevision will sell streaming CBS, Showtime to cord-cutters

Need more evidence that cable TV is giving way to internet TV? Cablevision just announced its new TV deal with CBS includes a provision for it to sell CBS All Access and Showtime streaming to its internet-only Optimum customers. Cablevision is already offering internet customers a way to bundle HBO Now or Hulu streaming with their bill, and now this adds another option. There’s no pricing info for CBS or Showtime yet, but if it follows the setup for ‘cord-cutting’ with HBO and Hulu, we wouldn’t expect any deep discounting. While Dish Network and Verizon chose one path to wrap up deals for internet TV during their usual negotiations with channels and content providers, Cablevision is going another, and even Comcast has its own plans. Welcome to the new look of cable.

Pioneering surgery gives man world’s first ‘bionic’ penis

Group of surgeons working in operating theatre

When Edinburgh, Scotland resident Mohammed Abad was six years old, he was involved in a horrific car accident. He was struck by a vehicle and then dragged nearly 600 feet (180 meters), tearing his tallywhacker (and left testicle) clean off. But thanks to advances in modern medicine, and a dedicated team at the University of London, Abad will soon have a bionic penis that puts Steve Austin’s junk to shame.

The University of London team has spent more than three years crafting a new, 8-inch wang out of skin grafts culled from Abad’s forearm and becomes erect by mechanically pumping fluid into it. This pump is activated by a button located near his remaining testicle. “When you want a bit of action you press the ‘on’ button,” Abad told The Sun. “When you are finished you press another button. It takes seconds. Doctors have told me to keep practising.” He’d already undergone two surgeries before the recent 11-hour marathon installation surgery. Doctors on the team report that the prosthesis should be sufficient for Abad to start a family, if he so chooses.

This marks the first time that such a device has been successfully implanted. However, in March, a 21-year-old South African man received the world’s first natural penial transplant.

Moving on, the other new budget smartphone to come from the company is called the 50e Helium. This device features a 5.0-inch IPS LCD 720p display, a 1GHz Snapdragon 210 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and microSD expansion up to 32GB. This smartphone comes with an 8MP rear camera, a 2MP front shooter, a 2100mAh battery and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop as well. This device also comes in a Windows-powered variant, dubbed the ARCHOS 50 Cesium, which features the same specifications and price point.

Both smartphones will be shown off at IFA 2015 in Berlin on September 4th.

Show Press Release
ARCHOS Diamond S: Smartphone Brilliance

London, August 25, 2015 – Today, the French brand ARCHOS is excited to announce its newest addition to the ARCHOS Diamond line: the ARCHOS Diamond S!

“There is an enormous demand for superlative smartphones like the ARCHOS Diamond S at prices that the average person can afford,” explains Loic Poirier, CEO of ARCHOS. “We’re happy to be releasing this product that furthers the mission of technical quality for everyone.”

ARCHOS: a story of high-technology democratization

Through its releases of 4G/LTE and impeccably-designed products, ARCHOS has established itself as the foremost democratizer of top-rate technology. Recent high-end ARCHOS smartphone releases have included the ARCHOS 50 Diamond and the newest ARCHOS Helium smartphones, which have been well-received by critics and customers. The new ARCHOS Diamond S embodies this same democratic high-tech spirit and builds upon its legacy with its powerful octa-core processor, exceptional specifications, and sexy design for under £159.99.

World-class features, one device

The ARCHOS Diamond S has a 5” Super AMOLED Gorilla Glass 3 screen that puts the smartphone in the premier leagues of screen quality. Its flat, glass-finish design is a perfect external manifestation of the outstanding technology inside the device. Sleek and slim, the phone slides easily into a pocket and nestles comfortably in the palm of a hand with its 118 grams. With just once glance, the design hints at all the brilliance that lies therein.

It also features an Octa-Core processor, 2 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of storage, so music, games, and content can be enjoyed without compromises in speed or storage. To complement this performance, the smartphone comes installed with Android 5.1 Lollipop, Android’s newest operating system. Battery management, push notification display, and user interface are all improved in this new OS. It also has fast charging capability to be fully ready as soon as possible.

The ARCHOS Diamond S offers dual cameras with impressive specs, so there is no need to settle for mediocre picture quality when using a cell phone to snap shots instead of a standalone camera. The back camera captures scenes at 16 MP and the front-camera takes 8 MP pictures for excellent selfie and videochatting visuals. As is customary for the ARCHOS Diamond line, the ARCHOS Diamond S will offer 4G/LTE connectivity for the fastest download speeds available on cellular networks today.

The ARCHOS Diamond S will be presented at IFA in Berlin, beginning September 4, 2015. For more on the ARCHOS story and the brand’s products, the ARCHOS booth will be in Hall 4.2/121.

The ARCHOS Diamond S will be available in November 2015 for the impressively low price of £159.99.

Samsung’s official boxing and unboxing videos of the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+

Samsung decided to make their own official unboxing videos for the public to view rather than leaving it to randoms with a camera and a YouTube account. Samsung went one step further and showed both Galaxy devices being assembled and boxed prior to being unboxed.

The videos are short and sweet and after watching I must admit both devices look stunning. Check them out for yourself and let us know if you will be getting one or both of the latest Samsung devices. I highly doubt assembly of both devices is as simple as it looks in the videos so don’t go tearing your phones apart.

The Next Big Thing is here.

Michael Stuhlbarg Speaks on Filming Steve Jobs Movie: ‘Unlike Anything I’ve Ever Done’

Michael Stuhlbarg, who plays early Apple employee Andy Hertzfeld in Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming Steve Jobs movie, spoke with Collider about his experience shooting the movie and shared some insight into the three-act structure of the film.

According to Stuhlbarg, the Steve Jobs movie was a “very unique project” with a rehearsal process that was split between each of the acts, with the actors spending two weeks rehearsing and then two weeks shooting the movie at each different location where the product unveilings took place. The film is centered around three product launches for the original Mac, the NeXT Computer, and the iMac.

This shooting method, says Stuhlbarg, was “unlike anything I’ve ever done to this point and probably unlike anything I’ll ever do again. He said it brought the actors together “in an extraordinary way.”

Also, it kind of gave us something in the telling of the story that you don’t often get, which is a sense of momentum of what a story is telling you. He got the opportunity to get the barrage of nonsense that was being thrown at him throughout the entire story. It was just unlike anything I’ve ever done before.

Stuhlbarg also spoke about the experience of working on a highly desirable Aaron Sorkin screenplay and his take on Andy Hertzfeld’s relationship with Steve Jobs, all of which can be read in the original interview on Collider or seen in the video below.

The Steve Jobs movie will premiere at the 53rd annual New York Film Festival on October 3 before seeing a wider release on October 9. The film, which was written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Danny Boyle, stars Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs, Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak, Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman, and Jeff Daniels as John Sculley.

Logic Pro X and MainStage Updated With Alchemy Integration From Recent Acquisition

Amazon’s one-hour delivery service arrives in Seattle

Amazon Prime Now in action

You’d think that Amazon would have been quick to offer its super-fast Prime Now delivery service in its home territory of Seattle, but nope — it’s just getting around to correcting that seeming oversight. The company has confirmed part of a recent scoop by launching Prime Now in both Seattle as well as nearby locales like Bellevue, Kirkland and Redmond (hi, Microsoft!). As before, how much you spend depends on just how urgently you need your order. It’s free (outside of your Prime subscription, of course) if you can afford to wait up to two hours, while one-hour shipping will cost you $8. The expansion still leaves much of the US without Prime Now, but this is still a big step toward covering America’s larger urban hubs.
