Humble PC & Android Bundle 13 offers the regular assortment of great games on the cheap
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Humble Bundles are always a great source of great games and the charity aspect of it is a nice bonus. Humble Bundle has just launched the Humble PC & Android Bundle 13 (we’re really up to 13?) which features a roster of great games, a few of which are debuting on Android for the first time.
The list of games includes Crimsonland, Neverending Nightmares, Beatbuddy: Tale of the Guardians, FOTONICA, TinyKeep, Monster Loves You!, and Crowntakers – the first four games you can get for any old donation, but for the other three, you’ll need to donate more than the average price, which is currently sitting around $2.83USD at the time of writing. That actually seems like an abnormally low price for such a great group of games – the combined value is around $100 – but hey, nobody’s complaining about great cheap games that also contributes to charity.
If you want to take advantage of the Humble PC & Android Bundle 13, and I have a feeling that you do, you can visit the Humble Bundle website here to make your donation.

‘Rainbow Six: Siege’ won’t breach and clear until December
It seems like that original October 13th release date proved a bit too unlucky for Ubisoft and Rainbow Six: Siege. A post on the gaming juggernaut’s blog says that the game has a lot of room to improve and an extra month or so will help the developers do just that. Namely, balancing weapons and equipment, tweaking co-op “across all game modes” and some other housekeeping bits. Don’t worry though because the closed beta is still on for September 24th while the full game launches across all platforms on December 1st. It’s starting to look like a trend for the company, and is almost assuredly helped in part by the absolutely atrocious launch of last fall’s Assassin’s Creed: Unity.

Apple to Demote iPod Stock to Accessory Shelves In Retail Stores
Apple will relocate iPod stock from the sales floor and back storage area to the accessory shelves and remove the iPad-based Smart Signs that sit next to many display devices starting on Wednesday, according to a new report from 9to5Mac. The changes are an effort by Apple to simplify the shopping experience in its retail stores.
Apple is preparing to make significant changes to its stores to simplify the experience by relocating iPod stock to accessory shelves and removing iPad-based Smart Signs, according to several Apple Retail managers briefed today on the plans. Apple will begin rolling out these notable changes overnight on Tuesday to stores in the United States so that customers who begin coming in on Wednesday see the refreshed look.
Apple’s signature products, the iPad, Mac, iPhone, iPod and Apple Watch, have typically been stored in the back storage area of an Apple Store. A customer would have to talk to an Apple Store employee and tell them which model they would like to purchase and wait as their product was retrieved from the back. Apple’s non-signature products, like Apple TV and Time Capsule, are available on the accessory shelves and are easily accessible by customers without having to consult with a retail employee.
Now, customers will be able to simply walk up and pull their iPod of choice off of the store shelves. The demotion of the iPod from the main floor to the shelves is likely reflective of the iPod’s decreased sales, as the device has become an increasingly minor business for Apple. The Cupertino company has also decreased the iPod’s presence on its website, removing the iPod section from the website’s top banner.
Additionally, Apple is removing the iPad 2-based Smart Signs intended to educate customers about Apple products. Sources tell 9to5Mac that some customers would get confused using the Smart Signs, expecting them to be fully usable iPad demo units rather than simple ways to learn about a product. Instead, Apple will begin loading product information directly on the iPads, iPhones and Macs starting next week. With less clutter on the product tables, Apple plans to install more devices for customers to test on the sales floor.
The changes to the retail stores follow Apple’s move to merge its website and online store, also creating a more simplified shopping experience for customers.
XYZ CEO says he won’t be selling the company to Google or any other company
After Google’s massive Alphabet restructuring, the company registered the domain abc.xyz instead of using a traditional .com domain. As you’d expect, this drove a ton of extra traffic for XYZ as a company, and they saw a large increase in domain registration the week following the news.
Not only have registrations spiked, but according to CEO Daniel Negari, XYZ has also received tons of offers for strategic investments and even buyouts from bigger tech companies. It makes sense; most start-ups seem like they exist solely to find funding from a bigger backer or to be bought up and merged into an existing company, which usually happens to be Google, Apple, Microsoft, etc.
Despite all of these offers, Negari has clarified that he’s not interested in selling the company. He says there’s still a lot of work to be done with XYZ to get it to where he wants to be, and he won’t be selling until he’s done.
An IPO may be in XYZ’s future, although there aren’t any plans for that to happen just yet.
Moral of the story? The best way to get your start-up on the front page of tech news sites is to get Google to use your product. Simple, right?

Skype updated to 5.10, brings custom ringtones and photo sharing
Skype has been updated to 5.10 and brings with it new custom ringtones and the ability to forward photos from your chats.
With the new update you can now customize the ringtone for incoming calls. The best part is you can do this per friend and give each one their own custom ringtone. To do this you have to be in a conversation with the person you want to change the ringtone of. Just tap the lower right and select “Ringtone options” then “Set custom ringtone”. Skype will automatically detect all the ringtones on your device.
Another newly added feature is being able to forward photos from your chats. You can now share photos from one conversation with other Skype friends who are not in that chat.
Finally, the last change is giving the option to change group chat colors. This makes it a lot easier to tell them all apart.

Moto X Play will be coming to Canada on August 18th
The second device in Motorola’s recently refreshed 2015 lineup, the Moto X Play, will soon be available to purchase in Canada. The water resistant phone was already available in the UK, but Canada will join in on August 18th.
As a refresher, the Moto X Play features a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 615 CPU, 2 GB of RAM, and a 21 megapixel rear camera. The battery life is rated for 48 hours of mixed use, and it is IP52 certified for water resistance. Pricing should be considerably cheaper than most other devices with these kinds of specs, too, so if you’re looking for a fantastic phone on a budget, keep the Moto X Play on your list.

Macy’s fights online shopping with a tablet in fitting rooms
The internet changed the way people shop, and Macy’s is well aware of this. In an effort to compete with successful online retailers like Amazon, Macy’s wants to rethink the shopping experience for its customers. According to a Bloomberg report, the retailer has started testing smartphones and tablets to upgrade dressing rooms in the women’s athletic and swimsuit departments. These devices, provided by the company for use in-store, let people request and try on different items without having to go out of the room and get those themselves. Once a customer finds something they like, the delivery arrives via chute. Yes, a chute.
Right now Macy’s is only doing this at a location in Manhattan Beach, California, and Bloomberg says the retailer didn’t discuss any expansion plans. Last June, the company (along with Bloomingdales) also announced it would begin offering custom-tailoring for clothes purchased online — which, above all, shows it’s not afraid to try new things.

The stuff-finding Tile now helps you find your phone

Placing a location-tracking Tile on you stuff has become a good way to keep you from pulling up all the couch cushions in your house when you misplace your car keys. Today, Tile has introduced a new white Bluetooth-enabled white square that’ll keep helping you find your stuff, but also your phone with the Tile app. With the updated app and Tile if happen to lose your phone, you can double-press the “e” on the Tile and if the app is running in the background, the phone will start playing a little tune. The app can also be used to locate another phone. So when someone loses an iPhone, their Android-owning friends can help out instead of just shrugging because they can’t load Find My iPhone.
In addition to finding lost phones, the new Tile is also three times louder than the previous version so it’s easier to find lost items that are at the bottom of a bag or under those pesky key-eating couch cushions. The company also has a new site to help folks find their lost items so they’re no longer dependent on an app. Perfect for when you lose your Tile and your phone.
This is in addition to the Lost Mode that’s available for both versions of Tile that gets every phone out there with the app to start looking for a missing item and ping the owner if it’s nearby.

Parallels 11 brings Microsoft’s Cortana to Macs before Siri
The latest version of Parallels, the popular Windows virtualization tool for Mac OS X, almost feels like it’s trolling Apple. One of Parallels 11’s key features, alongside full Windows 10 support, is its ability to put Microsoft’s Cortana right on your OS X desktop. That’s right — you could have a Windows-powered virtual assistant on your Mac long before Siri reaches the desktop. Parallels has already made it possible to run Windows apps directly on your Mac desktop for years with its “Coherence mode,” but this latest update marks the first time it’s brought over a Windows feature on its own. Slideshow-313636
In a brief demonstration, Parallel’s Cortana feature (which requires a Windows 10 virtual installation, naturally) worked just like it did on Windows 10 proper, with decent voice recognition and no noticeable delays. It can even take advantage of your Mac’s location data, making it practically indistinguishable from a native OS X app.
Parallels 11 also packs in the usual performance improvements: It can launch and shut down Windows around 50 percent faster than the last version, and a new “travel mode” can save up to 25 percent of your battery life. But really, the main reason you’d want to upgrade is to put Cortana on your OS X desktop and freak out all your friends. Parallels 11 is available today for $80, though users of the past two versions can upgrade for $50. And if you need more out of your Windows virtual machine, there’s also Parallels 11 for Mac Pro Edition, which will take advantage of that machine’s beefy hardware. It’ll cost you $100 a year, or $50 a year if you’re upgrading from Parallels 9 or 10.
