LG is bringing Hi-Fi music to its flagship customers
The tech industry is gradually recognizing the benefit of high fidelity audio. It looks like LG is the next player to put an effort into helping us get the worth out of our pricey set of cans.
Today, LG has announced the launch of its own Hi-Fi music service, specifically for LG smartphone owners. The new service will be incorporated in the LG SmartWorld app.
However, LG stated that only its flagship customers will be able to get use this service, which includes the “G4, G3, G2, and G Flex 2″ (I wonder why the original G Flex isn’t on this list?).
“Our Hi-Fi music service reflects our ongoing commitment to providing additional customer benefits to loyal LG customers. MP3 music is perfectly fine for most people but those with Hi-Fi capable LG smartphones can experience a much richer environment.“
The high quality playback will be at 24bit/192kHz. It doesn’t look like this is a streaming service, as LG states that “qualifying customers” will get two free tracks a month and 50% off the purchase of songs after that.
The rollout of the Hi-Fi service will begin this month via the SmartWorld app. It will debut in “nearly 70 countries including the United States, Australia, Brazil, China, France, Italy, Russia, and the United Kingdom.”
Are any LG fans enticed by this move to a better audio experience?

Apple Releases OS X 10.10.5 With DYLD Vulnerability Patch, Bug Fixes
Apple today released OS X Yosemite 10.10.5, an under-the-hood update that introduces bug fixes, security enhancements, and performance improvements. OS X 10.10.5 is being released to the public after two developer betas and one month of testing.
The OS X 10.10.5 update can be downloaded through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store.
Today’s update notably includes a fix for the DYLD_PRINT_TO_FILE privilege escalation vulnerability that could allow malware to gain root access to a Mac. Earlier this month, a DYLD_PRINT_TO_FILE exploit was found to be in use in the wild, so this is an update that all Mac users running Yosemite will want to install as soon as possible.
This update:
– Improves compatibility with certain email servers when using Mail
– Fixes an issue in Photos that prevents importing videos from GoPro cameras
– Fixes an issue in QuickTime Player that prevented playback of Windows Media files.
OS X 10.10.5 is likely to be one of the last updates to OS X Yosemite, which will soon be retired in favor of its successor, OS X 10.11 El Capitan. Currently in testing, OS X El Capitan builds on the features introduced with Yosemite, focusing on improving performance and user experience.
Once OS X El Capitan is available for download, OS X Yosemite will see only minor maintenance updates designed to fix security flaws and other major bugs. OS X El Capitan is expected to be released to the public in the fall.
Apple Releases iOS 8.4.1 With Apple Music Improvements and Bug Fixes
Apple today released iOS 8.4.1 to the public, roughly six weeks after releasing iOS 8.4 with the new Apple Music service and one month after first seeding the first iOS 8.4.1 beta to registered developers for testing purposes.
Today’s iOS 8.4.1 update is Build 12H321 and can be downloaded over-the-air through the using the Software Update tool in the Settings app on iOS devices.
iOS 8.4.1 is a minor update that includes under-the-hood performance improvements, bug fixes, and security updates. Throughout the testing period, no outward-facing changes were discovered in the beta, and Apple’s release notes specifically mention only Apple Music improvements and fixes.
This release includes improvements and fixes to Apple Music.
– Resolves issues that could prevent turning on iCloud Music Library
– Resolves an issue that hides added music because Apple Music was set to show offline music only
– Provides a way to add songs to a new playlist if there aren’t any playlists to choose from
– Resolves an issue that may show different artwork for an album on other devices
– Resolves several issues for artists while posting to Connect
– Fixes an issue where tapping Love doesn’t work as expected while listening to Beats 1
It’s likely iOS 8.4.1 will be one of the last updates to the iOS 8 operating system. iOS 9, iOS 8’s successor, has been in testing since June and is on track to be released in the fall alongside new iPhones. iOS 9 builds on the features introduced in iOS 8 and adds both new content and underlying performance improvements.
Apple Releases iTunes 12.2.2 With Apple Music Fixes
Alongside today’s releases of OS X 10.10.5 and iOS 8.4.1, Apple has also released iTunes 12.2.2, bringing additional fixes for Apple Music.
This update includes the following improvements:
– Click on the Beats 1 banner to see what’s currently on, or view a complete broadcast schedule so you never miss a show
– You can now view a list of the artists you’re following on Apple Music
– Resolved an issue where iTunes loses its place when you go back to a previous page in Apple Music
– Addressed a problem where artists may be sorted incorrectly in My Music
– Fixed a problem where playlists displayed in the action menu may not match the playlists in your library
– Artists can now share thoughts, photos, music, and videos to Connect, right from iTunesThis update also includes improvements to overall stability and performance.
iTunes 12.2.2 for OS X can be downloaded from the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store.
Pervert uses AirDrop to ‘cyber-flash’ fellow commuter
Ever heard of “cyber-flashing?” Us neither, to be honest, but it’s certainly got the police’s attention. As the BBC reports, British Transport Police are currently investigating a strange case of unsolicited dick pics appearing on a woman’s phone. While commuting to work on a London train, the lady in question saw a preview image of a stranger’s genitals pop up on her iPhone, sent via AirDrop, followed by another after she declined to accept the first. Understandably, she was pretty distressed by the weirdo’s oversharing, especially since the offending party would have been within AirDrop range, and reported it to the police. Since the pictures were declined, though, police don’t have a digital trail to follow up on, so there’s little chance of resolution. Almost stranger, police said they’ve dealt with similar cases involving Bluetooth before, but that the AirDrop method of cyber-flashing was something of a first. What will tech-savvy perverts think of next? Nothing, hopefully.

HBO’s exclusive deal for ‘Sesame Street’ cuts out Amazon and Netflix
With HBO finally doing battle directly against streaming video subscriptions from Netflix and Amazon, its biggest strike against those two comes today with an exclusive deal for Sesame Street. Most of us have grown up with Big Bird, Cookie Monster and the rest available primarily through PBS and they’ll still be there, but with this five year deal, HBO gets a nine month exclusive (cable and streaming) on new episodes. Sesame Workshop CEO Jeff Dunn called the arrangement “a true winning public-private partnership model,” that will give it the funding to keep making new episodes of the show, and a new Sesame Street Muppet spinoff series.
It’s promising almost twice as much content as new seasons, and that for the first time, the new episodes will be available to PBS stations for free (after their exclusive run on HBO). This also means that later this year, still-popular back episodes of Sesame Street will disappear from Netflix and Amazon when its deals there expire, but they will still be available on PBS Kids. According to the Wall Street Journal, the operation had been running at a deficit and Dunn told PBS “we can’t continue to operate like this” as he sought a partner. According to Dunn, he considered launching an independent service (while Sesame Go is still around, it’s not clear if this affect episodes available there), but opted to partner with a “premium brand” instead. New episodes will start coming to HBO this fall, along with past episodes of Pinky Dinky Doo and The Electric Company.

Host Jonathon Buckley hits the track at Auto Club Speedway of California in a 2015 BMW M4 to put down a baseline lap time before his virtual training session in the Motion Pro II. After learning the lines of the track in a simulated setting, Jonathon returns to the track to put his skills to the test.
“We designed it, originally, as a professional training tool for race car drivers,” says CXC Simulation’s founder and president Chris Considine. “Make it authentic. Make it real.”
The Motion Pro II boasts “thousands of cars and track models,” ranging from street cars, to rally and off-road vehicles. Will this hyper realistic racing simulator help Jonathon improve his lap time?

Samsung adds more to the Galaxy line with the S6 edge+
Moments ago, Samsung trotted the Galaxy S6 Edge+ onto the stage. Here’s a rundown of what they announced in case you didn’t catch the live video.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ comes in at 5.7 inches. Samsung quickly pointed out that this device offers a larger display but smaller form factor than the Apple iPhone 6+.
That display is, thankfully, AMOLED because we’re talking Quad HD here. AMOLED is clear, crisp, and battery efficient, exactly the kind of technology you want with Quad HD.
As for the build itself, we again see metal and glass form the chassis of the device. This time around, however, we see green-emerald being dropped in favor of silver-titanium. Makes sense, we never really saw green-emerald hit the shelves anyway.
The Galaxy S6 Edge+ distinguishes itself from its smaller sibling with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. Additionally, the new device also supports LTE Category 9.
As far as the camera is concerned, you’re going to be able to shoot in 4K. Also, Samsung is rolling out some video stabilization (VDIS) that works in conjunction with OIS hardware.
And being able to share those nice videos instantly would be cool… How instantly? Live. Working with YouTube, you can now broadcast live video feeds from this device.
The Edge+ also features fast wireless charging. Samsung claims you can go from 0% to 100% in two hours wirelessly. Samsung claims that with companies like Starbucks and IKEA building furniture with wireless chargers embedded in them, wireless charging is the way of the future.
My favorite thing that got announced was that you can make more use of the curved display with Apps Edge. Previously, we have only been able to set Contacts to the Edge Drawer, giving us three quick actions for each contact: phone, text, and email. Now we can set our favorite apps to the edge of the screen, so we don’t have to use third party apps anymore. (Unless you want to, of course.)
Samsung also took a second to talk about Sidesync’s new feature of being able to work wirelessly and automatically for multi-screen use on your desktop computer. They, with some tongue-in-cheek, even said that Sidesync will now work with Mac.
Finally, Samsung says that you can pick the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Note 5 up off the shelves starting as early as next week (August 21st) in the US and Canada. Furthermore, you can pre-order these devices in the US starting today at 3pm EST.
I was not pleased with the Galaxy S6 Edge, but I think I would like the Edge+, a device they should’ve released to begin with.

Samsung teases upcoming smartwatch to be shown off on September 3rd
After announcing the Note 5 and S6 Edge+, Samsung quickly teased a new smartwatch that they’re planning on officially unveiling at IFA early next month. The watch looks completely rounded and more like what some other manufacturers are going for, but the interface looks considerably different from what Samsung ships on their current watches.
Unfortunately, they didn’t go into any details aside from the way it looks and when it will actually be announced, but we should know more in the next few weeks.
