Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 full details leaked ahead of launch

Xiaomi-Mi-4i-review-8

Xiaomi is expected to launch its new Redmi Note 2 smartphone alongside its MIUI 7 operating system tomorrow, but any remaining surprises have been completely ruined by a leaked selection of hands-on pictures from China.

Along with a good look at the smartphone’s exterior, there is also an extensive internal hardware breakdown. The Redmi Note 2 sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display and is powered by a 2.2GHz MediaTek Helio X10 SoC and 2GB of RAM.

The smartphone also features a 13 megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel front camera, complete with 16GB of internal storage space and a 3,020mAh battery. Overall, the handset appears to be a notable improvement over its predecessor, with superior processing capabilities, additional RAM, and a sharper display resolution.

Chinese sources also suggest that there is a 3GB RAM model waiting to be unveiled tomorrow, which may also feature a larger flash memory chip for extra storage.

We don’t have any official price details yet, but sources state a three digit Chinese price tag at most, meaning that it won’t cost more than around $150. Previous rumors suggest that a 32GB model might cost around 799 yuan ($128), while the 16GB version will be available from 699 yuan ($112). The Redmi Note 2 looks to offer some excellent value for money.

We will be watching for the final details at Xiaomi’s official launch event tomorrow, which is taking place in Beijing, China.

iPad mini 4 split view support clues hidden in El Capitan

iOS 9’s split-screen feature will only work properly on the iPad Air 2, because it’s only one in the existing lineup with hardware capable of supporting it. 9to5mac and developer Hamza Sood, however, found proof in OS X El Capitan that Apple’s releasing a new iPad mini, and that it will also be capable of supporting split-screen apps. They found a resource file from within the upcoming platform’s Safari browser that clearly states that an iPad mini will get “half screen” capability, as you can see below the fold.

They also found a tool that can simulate different Apple devices to allow developers to test the responsiveness of their websites. One of those devices is the iPad mini 3 with split-screen, even though the real device doesn’t support the feature. If it’s true that Cupertino’s next pint-sized tablet can run split-screen apps, then it will likely be equipped with a faster processor and will have much better specs overall. We’ll find out for sure if Apple’s releasing a new iPad mini (and if the next iPhone will have Force Touch) on September 9th.

Huawei teases “unique” smartphone for IFA 2015

huawei-logo-mwc-2015-4

Huawei social media accounts have released a couple of teaser images this morning, pointing to a new handset that will be unveiled at this year’s IFA conference on September 2nd, which takes place in Berlin.

The teasers don’t reveal too much, but the poster released by president of Huawei’s consumer business, Zhu Ping, translates to “Unique S”. A separate teaser posted by a marketing manager from Huawei Italy reads “A Better S” and the “Mate S”, which seems to point to a new entry in Huawei’s Mate series of larger smartphones.

A few days ago, leaked images for a new Huawei smartphone hit the internet, which looks very much like a new phone in the Mate series. Perhaps the phone will be named the Mate 7S? There are also mumblings that a Mate 7 Mini and/or Plus are rumored to launch on the same day at IFA.

We don’t have much else to go on at the moment, apart from a few rumored specifications. Huawei’s next smartphone may come with a 5.7-inch 1080p display, Kirin 935 octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM and a 13 megapixel rear camera. An AnTuTu listing also suggests that Huawei has a 4.7-inch smartphone with the same specifications in the works too, but we will just have to wait until September for the official word.

Any thoughts on the Huawei teasers? What would you like to see from the company at IFA?

Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus battery confirmed?

samsung-unpacked-2015

Another day, another leak and the latest could answer one question that a lot of people seem to have about Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus smartphones: just how big is that battery going to be?

A leak from perennial tipster Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) has revealed both of Samsung’s upcoming smartphones will be powered by a 3000mAh battery, which is 450mAh larger than the Galaxy S6 and 400mAh larger than the Galaxy S6 Edge. Naturally, all leaks have a habit of being met with a degree of skepticism but Blass definitely has a history of being accurate and one of the tweeted replies seems to corroborate that the battery is 3000mAh on Samsung’s upcoming devices.

By way of comparison, if accurate, these batteries are smaller than the 3220mAh removable battery on the Galaxy Note 4 and Samsung says the 14nm manufacturing process with its Exynos processors delivers better battery life than previous processors. However, the lack of removable battery is expected to be one feature that will disappoint loyal Galaxy Note users, given the Note 5 will be the first in the range to feature a non-removable battery and back cover.

Aside from the battery, we’ve already heard what the rest of the specs are expected to be; based on a Galaxy S6 Edge Plus specs leak yesterday and given the two handsets should be almost identical, we expect both to have a 5.67-inch Super AMOLED Quad HD display, be powered by Samsung’s own Exynos processor and have 4GB RAM.

On the back is expected to be a 16MP rear camera with Optical Image Stabilisation, rapid autofocus and 4K video recording while the front snapper could be a 5MP or 8MP snapper. Other notable specs include a plethora of connectivity options (including dual wireless charging and quick charging like the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge), a slimmed down optimised TouchWiz interface, a heart rate sensor and a fingerprint sensor built into the home button beneath the display.

Both handsets should sport the metal and glass design from this year’s Galaxy S flagships, with a metal frame flanked by glass front and rear panels. The key difference between the two devices is that the Galaxy Note 5 will have a standard display with an S-Pen while the Galaxy S6 Edge will have a dual-curved display but will drop the S-Pen feature.

Twitter gives companies access to its full archives

new york november 7 the...

Twitter has just launched a new tool called “Full-Archive Search API,” which gives brands access to every public tweet ever made from the microblogging site’s inception nine years ago. If you recall, the company also opened up its archives to research institutions last year. That project was launched for science, though — this one was obviously created for business. The new tool was developed by Gnip, a long-time Twitter data partner that the company acquired in 2014 in order to sell data directly to advertisers and brand managers.

Full-Archive Search API gives Gnip’s customers the power to look up public tweets — any of the 500 billion or so available — instantly. They can use it to quickly search for context when responding to customers on Twitter. And they can use it to analyze tweets to see what’s the most effective way to get your attention when launching a product or an advertising campaign. As for how this development will affect you, it just means you have to be even more vigilant and scrutinize trends more closely if you hate being manipulated by corporations.

Huawei Ascend Mate 7S is likely the name of the mysterious Huawei device, invites set for IFA 2015

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

For the last few days, we’ve been seeing leaks of a mysterious Huawei device that looks awfully like last year’s Huawei Ascend Mate 7 – given rumours that the Ascend Mate 8 was going to be delayed till 2016, we were left with the conclusion that this would be an upgraded variant of the Ascend Mate 7, but what would its name be? Names like the Ascend Mate 7 Plus had been floated, but according a teaser posted by Zhu Ping, President of Huawei‘s consumer business, we’re strongly lead to believe that the device Huawei is going to announce at IFA 2015 is going to be the Huawei Ascend Mate 7S – the giant “S” is a dead giveaway.

Huawei Ascend Mate 7SOf course, the teaser also sets a date for the announcement, namely September 2nd. While the Ascend Mate 7S is no doubt going to headline Huawei’s event, we’re also wondering whether the Huawei Watch is also going to make an appearance after Huawei started teasing its release again. Whatever the case, Huawei’s event is going to be an exciting one given its growing profile in the global smartphone market.
