OneDrive will tell you when someone’s editing your files
If you’ve ever worried that someone was editing your shared documents behind your back, Microsoft might just set your mind at ease. The folks in Redmond are rolling out an update to OneDrive that tells you when someone is editing a file you’ve shared, whether through a mobile notification or a daily summary email — you’ll know if someone is diving into that quarterly report a little too soon, or if that spreadsheet will be ready for tomorrow. Only some users will see these alerts at first, but they should be “widely available” in the weeks ahead.
There’s more beyond that. Microsoft recently added support for sharing synced folders to your desktop, and it’s now making it possible to search within files that have been shared with you, not just your own material. You won’t have to remember whether or not you were the first to bring up that important topic, in other words. Overall, these OneDrive updates could eliminate some of the confusion that comes with putting your content in the cloud — you’ll have a better sense of who’s working on what.

Sky Sports customers can now watch goal replays on their phones
With its live Champions League and Europa League TV rights, BT has proven to be a worthy sports broadcasting rival to Sky. The latter is now playing defence with renewed La Liga rights and a new deal with The Sun for mobile goal highlights. Sky TV customers with a Sky Sports subscription will get free access to Sun Goals, a mobile app that shows every back-of-the-net moment from the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup and Scottish Premiership. Of course, it’s not quite the same as watching the full match on your telly, but the app should be a nice extra for sports fans nonetheless.
The deal is likely a stop-gap measure while Sky prepares a similar service of its own. Starting next season, the broadcaster will have the rights to highlight clips from every Premier League fixture — including the matches it’s unable to air. Although it doesn’t have European football just yet, it’s a solid base to build from. Sky has also agreed to share those clips with the “Murdoch empire” newspapers — The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times — which could be the reason why the Sun Goals partnership has come about.
Sky’s marketing will be focused on Sun Goals, but we’re told the promotion actually covers the entirety of The Sun‘s “Sun+” subscription service. Presumably this means you’ll get full access to the paper’s site and apps, including The Sun mobile app. None of this balances out the loss of the Champions League, but — something is better than nothing, right?

UK PS4 owners will soon pay more for online multiplayer
Some PlayStation Plus subscriptions are getting a little more expensive in the UK. From September 1st, Sony’s 30-day option will cost £5.99 instead of £5.49, and the 12 week plan is rising to £14.99, up from £11.99. The annual subscription is staying locked at £39.99, however, so if you haven’t taken the plunge just yet — now might be a good time to reconsider. Sony says the changes are “in line with market conditions” and all part of its push to deliver “an unparalleled experience, featuring the best quality games and features.” If you need a reminder, PS Plus nets you some “free” games on PS4, PS3 and PS Vita every month, and is also required to play PS4 games online. Maybe, just maybe this extra cash can be used to stop PSN from going down so often too? We’re crossing our fingers.

Indian smartphone shipments rebound due to sub $100 handsets
India’s smartphone industry may be one of the fastest growing, but it still has its ups and downs. Following a sluggish start to the year, IDC research suggests a 44 percent year on year growth in smartphone shipments in Q2, with 26.5 million smartphones shipped. Shipments are also up 19 percent over the previous quarter.
Samsung retains its position as the most popular smartphone manufacturer in India, with a 23 percent share of the market, according to the data. Second place remains in the hands of Micromax on 17 percent, followed by Intex on 11 percent. Lava and Lenovo round off the top five with 7 and 6 percent, while other manufacturers accounts for the remaining third or so of the market.
Interestingly, Chinese vendors have tripled their smartphone shipments in India YoY and double them QoQ. Brands such as Lenovo, Xiaomi and Huawei accounted for 12 percent of the market combined. With the Chinese market beginning to slowdown, many low cost manufacturers are looking to India to prolong their success. However unlike China, consumers appear slower to make a switch over to smartphones in India, and growth is expected to take a little longer. Although the popularity of and trends towards an increasing number of e-commerce retailers and flash sales are helping manufactures to reach new consumers in India.

An important dynamic in the Indian market is price. While 20 percent of smartphones shipped in China cost less than $100, close to 50 percent of all smartphones shipped in India fall into this price category. Micromax and Intex have managed to capitalize on this market segment and Samsung has been aiming to cater to this demand with a selection of more affordable smartphones this year. Perhaps Google is right to want to realign its Android One program to target the sub $100 section of the market.
IDC anticipates that India to continue to see double digit growth for the new few years. The country is expected to surpass the US has the world’s largest smartphone market by 2017.

Samsung’s Galaxy S7 might come with a Snapdragon 820 SoC
According to a new report, Samsung has already initiated development of its upcoming flagship smartphone of 2016, the Galaxy S7. The handset has been internally codenamed Jungfrau and if a leaked Chinese internal document is anything to go by, it’s set to feature some pretty beefy internals.
The word on the street is that the G7 is expected to feature Qualcomm’s brand new Snapdragon 820 System-on-Chip and it would appear that there’s some truth to the speculation. A leaked testing roster reveals that an unidentified unit matching the description of Jungfrau has already entered testing carrying the new processor.
Unfortunately, we have quite a way to go before Samsung’s unveils the Galaxy S7, but for now early signs point towards it being a hugely powerful device.

OnePlus 2 now officially on sale in Europe/US, India sales starting at 4PM IST

Ladies and gentlemen, the phone known in some circles as “2016 flagship killer” is now officially on sale in the US, Europe, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Sales in India will begin at 4PM IST, while sales in South East Asia will kick off at a later time.
The OnePlus 2 can now be ordered, with the big caveat that you will need an invitation for the opportunity to give OnePlus your money. Yes, love it or hate it, OnePlus is using the same invitation system as last year, though the company promised the whole process will be a lot less painful this time around.
OnePlus announced in a forum post the expected wait times by region:
- North America and Taiwan: 10-15 business days (apparently including the delay time announced earlier)
- EU and Hong Kong: 3-5 business day
- India: 5-7 business days
Invitations will be distributed to OnePlus community members, as well as lucky users on the massive waiting list “around mid-August.” But the company has already passed around a number of invites apparently. Intriguingly, a number of users on the OnePlus forums report that they have already ordered their device, ahead of the announced hour.
Head over to OnePlus’ website to order your device.
The OnePlus 2 has been criticized for the absence of a number of notable features – NFC and wireless charging among them – but, even with very strong competition, the device offers excellent value for money.
Our review is coming very soon, but if you have burning questions about the OnePlus 2, our AUA thread and post are the places to raise them. We’ll also have an invite giveaway soon so stay tuned for that!
Let us know if you were able to order your OnePlus 2!
Leak details new Galaxy S6 Edge Plus software features

The launch of Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus smartphones isn’t far away now, so it’s not surprising to see a few more last minute leaks. This time, sources have managed to get their hands on some details about the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus’ software. More specifically, the new features that make use of the Edge display.
For starters, the original S6 Edge’s People Edge feature is being updated with a second menu, to allow users to access up to five of their favorite applications from the side of their display, in addition to their five favorite contacts. Allowing theEedge display to work as a small app launcher might help to make the unique display a little more useful when it comes to day-to-day activities.

Speaking of contacts, this feature has been updated with a new ‘OnCircle’ menu, which offers up quick access to initiate video calls or send a picture or emoticon straight to one of your favorite contacts. This feature also includes the existing options for calls, text messages and emails. We’ll have to see if these feature play nicely with that optional keyboard accessory for the phone, which was spotted just yesterday.
As for hardware, the latest leaks suggest that the S6 Edge Plus will come with an octa-core Exynos 7420 SoC, 4GB of RAM, a 5.7-inch QHD AMOLED display, 16 megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel front facing camera and a 3,000mAh battery.

Now, it’s being rolled out to the Kindle Voyage, Kindle Touch, Kindle 7th gen and previous-gen Kindle Paperwhites as part of those devices’ latest software update. In addition to the Bookerly font, the update comes with a better Smart Lookup that makes it easier to access tools for highlighting, creating and sharing notes, among others.
