Refurbished iPad Air 2 Models Now Available From Apple Store
Apple today added several iPad Air 2 models to its online store for refurbished products, marking the first time refurbished versions of the iPad Air 2 have been made available for purchase.
Released in October of 2014, the iPad Air 2 features a slimmer body than the original iPad Air, plus a triple-core A8X processor, an 8-megapixel camera Touch ID, and a gapless display with an anti-reflective screen coating.
Apple is currently offering several refurbished iPad Air 2 models, ranging from the entry-level 16GB Wi-Fi only iPad Air 2 to the 128GB Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad Air 2. All models are discounted by 15 to 17 percent, dropping prices by $80 to $160. For the entry-level Wi-Fi only 16GB model, the discount lowers the price to $419 from the original $499 price tag.
That price point beats many sale prices from third-party vendors, and as with all of Apple’s refurbished products, the iPad Air 2 models come with a full 1-year warranty, a new battery, and a new outer shell.
Apple’s refurbished inventory fluctuates on a regular basis based on available supply, so models that are available today may not be available tomorrow. The refurbished iPad Air 2 models can be purchased immediately from the online store.

Carl Icahn Still Believes in Apple HDTV as AAPL’s Market Share Surpasses $750 Billion [iOS Blog]
Activist investor and billionaire Carl Icahn, during an interview with CNBC today, expressed confusion over The Wall Street Journal‘s recent report claiming that Apple scrapped its plans for a full television set more than a year ago. Icahn and his investment firm Icahn Enterprises remain confident that Apple will enter the television and automotive spaces, even as analyst Gene Munster admits he was wrong.

Icahn issued an open letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook on Monday in which he applauded the company for recently increasing its share repurchase authorization by $50 billion, and encouraged further acceleration of the stock buyback program. Icahn also valued Apple shares at $240 each and said the company will sell 55” and 65” ultra HDTVs in 2016 and introduce an Apple-branded car by 2020.
“After many years of rumors as part of Apple’s push into television and as we referenced previously, we expect in FY 2016 Apple will sell 55” and 65” ultra high definition television sets,” said Icahn in his open letter. “We forecast revenues of $15 billion in FY 2016 and $37.5 billion in FY 2017 on 10 million and 25 million units respectively with average selling prices of $1,500.”
The open letter also predicts that the iPhone will experience modest 2.3% revenue growth in the 2016 fiscal year, the iPad will rebound with a strong performance and revenue growth of 27.7% in FY 2016 and the Mac will continue to make gains over the next year. Icahn Enterprises predicts 10 million Apple Watch sales in the second half of 2015 and international expansion of Apple Pay.
Apple shares are currently trading at just over $130 as of publication time, giving the company a market capitalization of over $753 billion. In the past twenty-four hours, Apple surpassed the $750 billion market cap milestone for the first time as AAPL shares have risen following the open letter. Icahn himself has earned about $3.4 billion since announcing his position in the company in August 2013.

Samsung launches Flow, a direct competitor to Apple’s Continuity
Another service from Samsung has launched as a direct competitor to an offering from Apple. Flow, which is a response to Apple’s Continuity, transfers activities between devices in real-time. Users can also use one device with the other. For example, hitting an address link on a tablet will bring the option to view a map on a phone. Information stays on one screen while the other device manages another task. Activities can be transferred or paused immediately with Flow.
The app, which is labeled as a beta, works with the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge, and Galaxy Tab S.

If you need a refresher, the Turbo has a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560, a 2.7GHz Snapdragon 805 processor, a big 3900mAh battery, 3GB of RAM and a 21MP rear camera. The device still runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat, but Verizon says the update to Android 5.1 Lollipop will be here “soon”. The phone also features Advanced Calling 1.0, which means call quality to other Verizon customers will be crystal clear.
Anybody out there interested in these new color options?
The first Apple Watch update arrives with faster app performance
The Apple Watch arrived on the scene with at least a few rough edges, but the crew at 1 Infinite Loop is trying to smooth at least some of them today. The company has released a 1.0.1 update for the Watch that improves performance across the board, and should be a particular help with third-party apps hosted on your iPhone — many of which seemingly took forever to load in the original release. The difference isn’t dramatic in our experience, but it is there. Your wristwear should also do better jobs with Siri voice recognition and calculating fitness data (such as calories and distance), and the interface supports seven extra languages ranging from Brazilian Portugese to Turkish. This doesn’t include any of the big interface-level features hinted at in recent rumors, but it’s good to see Apple’s first wearable get some much-needed polish.
Instagram’s Layout collage app comes to Android
You no longer have to use an iPhone to get creative with Layout, Instagram’s collage app — it’s now available for Android. As before, the software lets you cram up to nine photos into a single image, with options to shuffle and flip pictures if you’re aiming for a particular effect. It’ll automatically detect faces to help you find your friends, and you don’t need an Instagram account to sign up or share pictures. You will get an extra perk if you do use Facebook’s square photo app, though. Android-based Instagram users (iOS is coming soon) are getting Structure, an editing tool that emphasizes details and textures in your shots. However artistic you are, you’ll definitely want to swing by Google Play.

JXE Streams: Slaying monsters with a vengeance in ‘The Witcher 3’
You’ve likely seen the infamous “sex on a stuffed unicorn” scene by now, but what’s the rest of The Witcher 3: WIld Hunt really about? That’s what I’m hoping to show you today on this latest edition of JXE Streams. The Witcher is kind of an anomaly, really: a long-running PC role-playing series (based upon Polish fantasy novels) with a dedicated fanbase, but when the console port The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings arrived on Xbox 360 back in 2012, not many people paid attention to it. Fast forward three years and its sequel is one of the most highly anticipated games of the month. We’re going to dive into some caves, fight some monsters and hopefully avoid any not-safe-for-work shenanigans so you don’t get into any trouble if the boss walks by your desk.
Join us here in this post, at Engadget.com/gaming or over on Twitch.tv/Joystiq for a solid 90 minutes of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt starting at 3:30PM ET. How long will Geralt of RIvia’s beard grow by the end? We’ll find out together.
If you enjoy our streams, please follow us on Twitch.tv/Joystiq and bookmark Engadget.com/gaming.
